Jets selected Louisiana-Lafayette RB Elijah McGuire with the No. 188 overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft.

McGuire (5’10/214) graduated as Louisiana-Lafayette's all-time leader in all-purpose yards (5,968) and TDs (52), posting a career 711/4,312/42 (6.1 YPC) rushing line with 129/1,383/10 (10.7 YPR) receiving. Despite his prolific compilation stats, McGuire’s yards-per-carry average descended every year in college (8.4 > 7.6 > 5.0 > 4.9), and he tested as a 24th-percentile athlete before the draft, running well (4.53) in Indy but flunking the three-cone drill (7.26). Still, McGuire’s pass-catching resume, reliable ball security, and compact build give him some appeal as a potential committee back.

The Cardinals visited Louisiana-Lafayette RB Elijah McGuire late in the process.

We're big fans of McGuire's and expect him to be a Day 3 steal, possibly even this year's Jordan Howard. Rotoworld's Josh Norris ranks McGuire as the No. 106 overall prospect in the class.

Louisiana-Lafayette RB Elijah McGuire visited the Falcons and Giants, according to Ian Rapoport.

McGuire previously worked out for the Falcons. Rotoworld's Josh norris is a big fan of McGuire's talent as both a runner and receiver. We don't expoect him to be drafted until day three, but he might be a nominee for this year's Jordan Howard.

Louisiana-Lafayette RB Elijah McGuire has a private workout scheduled with the Atlanta Falcons.

During McGuire's pro day, he opted to sit on his Combine numbers -- which included a 4.53s 40-yard dash, a 36-inch vertical jump and a 120-inch broad jump -- but did show out for positional drills. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline passes along that the 5-foot-10, 214-pounder aced those drills, noting that McGuire "looked terrific catching the ball and projects well as a third down back." While the Falcons are already loaded at the position with Tevin Coleman and Devonta Freeman, McGuire would fit well as a Day 3 supplemental piece.
Apr 9 - 1:53 PM

CBS Sports draft analyst Rob Rang notes that Louisiana-Lafayette RB Elijah McGuire's "square frame and powerful, downhill running style make him a favorite for many."

McGuire is just one plant attempting to fight for light in the overstuffed rain forest that is the 2017 running back class. The 5-foot-11, 208-pounder might just have the chops to meet the sun. Rang writes that in addition to his power, he possesses "vision, quickness and burst, as he demonstrated on what turned out to the game-winner [at the East-West Shrine Game on Saturday]." Both Rang and Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline came away from the Shrine Game practice week impressed with what they saw from McGuire, who could well find himself selected on Day 2 in the draft. And if not Day 2, early on Day 3.

Louisiana-Lafayette RB Elijah McGuire rushed for 42 yards and a touchdown on seven carries in Saturday's East-West Shrine Game.

Points were an endangered species through the first three quarters, as the East and West squads were tied at 3-3 entering the fourth quarter. That's when McGuire finally (finally) broke through, scampering in for a touchdown from 18 yards out to boost the West team to a 10-3 advantage. That would stand as the final. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline called the 5-foot-11, 208-pounder one of the "big winners" of the Shrine practice week, noting that "if a team needs a situational ball carrier that’s a legitimate threat catching the ball in the short or long field they can look to McGuire in the middle rounds."

Louisiana-Lafayette hired West Georgia HC Will Hall as offensive coordinator.

Hall is a rising star in the coaching community. He posted a 31-9 at West Georgia following a 25-11 stint at West Alabama. In conjunction with this move, Ragin’ Cajuns football coach Mark Hudspeth also reshuffled his staff. Jorge Munoz moved to wide receivers coach, Michael Desormeaux moved to running backs, Marquase Lovings moved to defensive ends and Levorn Harbin moved to defensive tackles.

The NCAA has denied Louisiana-Lafayette senior QB Anthony Jennings' request for an additional year of eligibility.

As Jennings' request for an extra year had nothing to do with an injury, it was always going to be a shoot-the-moon scenario. No such luck. The quarterback's argument was that he played so sparingly in 2015 with LSU -- appearing in only two games and posting no statistics in that space -- that it should have been treated like a redshirt year. The NCAA is not buying that argument. Jennings transferred over to Louisiana-Lafayette after that 2015 season and started for the Rajin' Cajuns this past campaign. As he has been nixed on the additional year of eligibility, that officially puts Jennings' collegiate career to rest. "I wanted to wish him the best for the future and thank him for his time here as a Ragin’ Cajun," said HC Mark Hudspeth. "He has been a class act."

Louisiana-Lafayette senior QB Anthony Jennings completed 8-of-20 passes for 95 yards and an interception while rushing for 19 yards and two touchdowns in Saturday's 28-21 loss to Southern Miss in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl.

Jennings scored his second touchdown on a three-yard run with 5:10 remaining in the contest. The run itself was not noteworthy, but the way it came about was a different matter. Southern Miss was nursing a comfortable 28-14 lead as they milked the clock in the fourth quarter, when Golden Eagles QB Nick Mullens decided to get frisky, tossing up a third-down deep ball down the right sideline which ricocheted off a pair of players only to wind up in the waiting hands of a Ragin' Cajuns defender. Jennings scored a short time later to draw his crew to within 28-21, but their final attempts to tie the score proved ineffectual. The 6-foot-2, 216-pound quarterback was unable to find the statistical click in 2016, managing just an 11/13 TD/INT ratio in 13 games. He did add nine touchdowns on the ground, though his rushing totals overall -- 341 yards, 2.4 YPC -- aren't particularly inspiring.

Southern Miss (6-6, 4-4 in Conference USA) will play Louisiana-Lafayette (6-6, 5-3 in Sun Belt) in the New Orleans Bowl on Saturday.

The Eagles were installed as 3.5-point favorites. Southern Miss started 4-1, but enters the bowl game on a 2-5 downswing. This will be QB Nick Mullens' (2,926 yards, 22/10 TD/INT rate) last chance to throw to junior WR Allenzae Staggers (73 catches for 1,000 yards). Southern Miss ranks No. 86 in S&P+ defense, however, and figures to have problems containing ULL RB Elijah McGuire. The Ragin' Cajuns started only 2-4, but went 4-2 down the stretch to qualify for the postseason.

Louisiana-Lafayette freshman RB Raymond Calais underwent shoulder surgery.

"He’s gonna have a little shoulder surgery after exams to clean it up. So he might even miss spring ball. But he’ll be fine," said HC Mark Hudspeth. Due to his surgery, the 5-foot-9, 175-pound freshman will miss out on a New Orleans Bowl showdown with Southern Miss later this month. In nine games this season, Calais had rushed for 117 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries.

Louisiana-Lafayette senior RB Elijah McGuire rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown on 28 carries in Saturday's 30-3 win over Louisiana-Monroe.

With the win, the Ragin' Cajuns improved to 6-6 and gained bowl eligibility. McGuire notched a personal milestone in the victory, too, as his 110 yards rushing bumped him over 1,000 for the regular season. The 5-foot-11, 208-pound senior scored his lone touchdown on Saturday via a one-yard run with nine minutes remaining in the first quarter. Through 12 games, he has now rushed for 1,028 yards and seven touchdowns. He has surpassed 1,000 yards rushing in each of his last three seasons. TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline notes that the scouting community views him as a potential mid-round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Louisiana-Lafayette junior WR Gabe Fuselier will transfer.

According to HC Mark Hudspeth, Fuselier has left Louisiana-Lafayette in order to find a program that will offer him more on-field opportunities. In six games played this season, the 5-foot-11, 175-pound junior has managed just eight catches for 84 yards. His most notable (though still modest) campaign with the Ragin' Cajuns came in 2015, when Fuselier logged a 37-357-1 receiving line over the course of 12 games.

Louisana-Lafayette senior QB Anthony Jennings completed 17-of-26 passes for 210 yards while rushing for 96 yards and a touchdown in Thursday's 33-26 win over Georgia Southern.

Jennings failed to throw for a touchdown, but did scoot into the end zone from 10 yards out six seconds before halftime. The 6-foot-2, 216-pound LSU transfer has thrown for 1,652 yards (62.4% completions) with a 9/7 TD/INT ratio through nine games. In that space, he has also rushed for 215 yards and four touchdowns.
