Louisiana Lafayette has hired former HS coach Devan Walker as a defensive quality control assistant.

Walker played in the NFL for the Chargers and Chiefs as an outside linebacker. It is probably not a coincidence that he'll be working with outside linebackers for the Ragin' Cajuns.

Louisiana has hired Zac Etheridge to be their new DB coach, according to Bruce Feldman of Fox Sports.

Etheridge had accepted a position to coach at Chattanooga last week, but instead will be taking his talents to Lafayette. Prior to leaving for Lafayette -- and Chattanooga -- he served as the DB coach at Western Carolina. He was a four-year player for Auburn from 2007-2010.

Adam Rittenberg of ESPN reports that Louisiana-Lafayette will hire Southeastern Louisiana HC Ron Roberts to be the new defensive coordinator.

We generally don't see head coaches move down to coordinator positions, but it's not unheard of; we just saw Beau Baldwin do the same thing from Eastern Washington California a season ago. He went 41-29 in his time at Southeastern Louisiana, and took the team twice to the FCS playoffs. It could be a big addition for new coach Billy Napier as he tries to build Louisiana back into a winner.

Former Mississippi State TE/T coach D.J. Looney will be the assistant OL coach for Louisiana.

Looney spent one year at Mississippi State, but was not retained by new coach Joe Moorhead. He's also work for Georgia, and played on the Mississippi offensive line from 2007-2010.

Former Nevada senior CB Kendall Johnson transferred to UL-Lafayette.

Johnson (6'0/190) was named to the All-Mountain West preseason team by Athlon Sports prior to the start of the 2017 season, but it all unraveled from there. He left the team in team in September -- HC Jay Norvell actually termed it a retirement -- after failing to see the field in the opener. It's not quite clear at this juncture if Johnson will be transferring as a graduate, but that's believed to be the case. He'll have one year of eligibility remaining with the Ragin' Cajuns come the start of the 2018 season. This is an ideal team fit for Johnson, as Lafayette is looking to replace multiple pieces of the secondary with corners Simeon Thomas and Levarious Varnado lost to graduatino and Damar'ren Mitchell likely to transfer.

UL-Lafayette hired Louisiana-Monroe WR coach Tim Leger to serve in the same capacity.

Leger has been with ULM each of the past two seasons. Prior to that, he had a nine-year stint with McNeese State.

Football Scoop reports that Mississippi State will not retain TE/T coach D.J. Looney.

Looney will be looking for fresh employment after spending one year on staff at Mississippi State. The former Bulldogs offensive lineman was working as an assistant at Georgia prior to his being hired on staff in Starkville by then-HC Dan Mullen this past February.

Louisiana-Lafayette hired Texas A&M strength and conditioning coach Mark Hocke to serve in the same capacity.

Hocke is also receiving the title of associate head coach, something of a rarity for somebody at his position. The current season was his first on staff with the Aggies. He has previously coached at Florida State (2016), Georgia (2015) and Alabama (2009-14).

Louisiana-Lafayette senior S Tracy Walker accepted an invite to play in the East-West Shrine Game.

Walker was seen as a potential second-to-third round pick coming into the season thanks to his size (6'2/200) and productivity, but has seen his stock drop as the campaign progressed. He did finish with 97 tackles and intercepted two passes, and if he plays well in the Shrine Game activities, he has a chance to reestablish his draft stock.

FOX Sports' Bruce Feldman reports that a "deal is imminent" between Louisiana and Arizona State OC Billy Napier.

This is a nice hire for the Ragin’ Cajuns, who will attempt to rebuild courtesy of an offensive revolution. Napier will bring an up-tempo spread system that prioritizes speed and getting athletes into space. The 38-year-old is a former Alabama and Clemson assistant who did strong work calling the shots for the Sun Devils' offense. Per Feldman, Napier is "really connected in the South."

Louisiana-Lafayette HC Mark Hudspeth said that junior WR Keenan Barnes (knee) should be good to play against Appalachian State on Saturday.

Barnes has missed the past two games due to the knee injury. The 6-foot-3, 208-pounder has a 36-507-2 receiving line this fall.

Louisiana-Lafayette redshirt sophomore WR Michael Jacquet suffered a setback at practice on Wednesday and is questionable to play against Florida State on Saturday.

Jacquet's was able to play last week against Georgia Southern with the injured ankle, but apparently aggravated the injury on practice on Wednesday. If he's unable to go, it means more targets for Keenan Barnes, Ja'Marcus Bradley and Rhyheem Malone.

Louisiana-Lafayette HC Mark Hudspeth said that junior WR Keenan Barnes (knee) was not at full strength in Tuesday's practice.

Barnes has sat out each of the past two games due to the knee injury. The 6-foot-3, 208-pound junior's status for Saturday's upcoming contest against Appalachian State remains clouded. Barnes is currently the owner of a 36-507-2 receiving line for the season.

Arizona State AD Ray Anderson said that he would like to retain OC Billy Napier and DC Phil Bennett.

While the Sun Devils cut bait with HC Todd Graham earlier on Sunday, they are apparently pleased with what Graham's assistants have shown this season. Depending on who they hire to replace Graham, though, it wouldn't be a surprise to see some shuffling on staff. Stay tuned.

Louisiana-Lafayette junior WR Ryheem Malone hauled in six passes for 106 yards and a touchdown in a 34-24 loss to Georgia Southern on Saturday.

Malone has now scored and gone over the century mark in back-to-back games. His touchdown was a 17-yard strike from Jordan Davis that brought the Ragin' Cajuns to within 10 at 27-17. Louisiana-Lafayette gets one more crack at the magical six-win total next week when they take on Appalachian State.
