Louisiana-Monroe hired Sam Houston State TE/ST coach Kyle Segler to serve in a similar capacity.

Segler has been a familiar face on the Sam Houston State sideline, having served on staff with the program since 2010. At ULM, he takes over for Matt Powledge, who earlier accepted a position at UL-Lafayette.

Louisiana-Monroe hired John Carr from Jones County CC to become the new wideouts coach.

Carr spent two seasons at Jones County as the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks, and wide receivers coach. If the school name sounds familiar, it might be because Jones was one of the schools that played East Mississippi Community College in the Last Chance U documentary on Netflix.

Louisiana-Monroe junior CB J.J. Dallas will forego his final season of eligibility to enter the 2018 NFL Draft.

Dallas (6'0/198) falls squarely into the category of questionable draft declarations. He ranked as 247Sports' No. 142 JUCO prospect in the 2017 class, but posted just 16 tackles with five passes defended in his lone year with the Warhawks. He's almost certainly ticketed for undrafted free agency barring an unexpected ascension during the evaluating process.

Louisiana-Monroe redshirt junior QB Garrett Smith will transfer as a graduate.

Smith (6'0/211) is set to graduate in the spring and will be eligible to play immediately with his new program come the start of the 2018 season. The redshirt junior played sparingly behind Caleb Evans this season, recording stats in just four games. In that space, he threw for 584 yards (58.3% completions) with a 5/3 TD/INT ratio.

Louisiana-Monroe redshirt junior WR Marcus Green snagged eight passes for 193 yards with a touchdown in a 67-50 loss to Arkansas State on Saturday.

Not only did Green (5'8/191) have a big game receiving, he also returned a kick for 95 yards and a score. The 5-foo-8, 191-pound junior found plenty of room to operate against the Red Wolves secondary, and scored on a 38-yard pass from Caleb Evans to give the Warhawks a 7-0 lead in the first quarter. Green and the Warhawks will finish their year and try to spoil Florida State's chances at reaching a bowl game next week.

Louisiana-Monroe QB Caleb Evans threw for 454 yards and four touchdowns with three interceptions on 21-of-37 passing and ran for two scores in a 67-50 loss to Arkansas State on Saturday.

This was a heck of a football game, assuming you like points. Evans now has 350-plus passing yards in three of his last four games, and the two rushing scores give him 13 on the season. There were certainly consistency problems -- and his three picks were a chief reason the Warhawks weren't able to win this one -- but the upside in Evans' arms and legs is obvious. ULM has one more game in the regular season against Florida State.

After Saturday's loss to Auburn, Louisiana-Monroe said sophomore QB Caleb Evans did not suffer any injury during the game.

Evans completed 9-of-25 passes for 86 yards with 34 rushing yards before the Warhawks inserted backup Garrett Smith. Per the school, the reason for the change had nothing to do with a potential Evans injury.

Louisiana-Monroe sophomore QB Caleb Evans completed 24 of his 32 pass attempts for 356 yards, three touchdowns and one interception on Saturday against Appalachian State. He also added nine runs for 47 yards and a pair of scores.

ULM's offense continues to light up the scoreboard, posting 28 or more points in each of their nine outings, and 45 or more points in five of their past seven. Evans has been a huge part of the success of the Warhawks, posting 12 passing scores while running for 11 touchdowns through nine games.

UL-Monroe junior WR Markis McCray (undisclosed) will miss the remainder of the season.

McCray has been dogged by an unlisted injury this month, and that malady conspired to hold him to a single October catch. Now, it has ended his season.

Louisiana-Monroe sophomore QB Caleb Evans completed 24-of-37 passes for 400 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in Saturday's 31-23 loss to Idaho.

Evans has had himself an extremely up-and-down season to date -- he has been benched for ineffectiveness at times -- but was decidedly on the "up" side of that equation in Saturday's defeat. The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder tossed two of his three touchdown passes in the second half after ULM trailed 28-7 at the half, but the mountain ultimately proved just too high to climb for victory. Evans and crew will play host to Appalachian State next weekend.

Louisiana-Monroe sophomore QB Caleb Evans will remain the starter for the Warhawks on Saturday, coach Mike Viator announced on Monday.

Evans (6'2/210) struggled against Georgia State and was replaced in the third quarter by backup Garrett Smith. While Smith was able to play well, much of it came with the game no longer in doubt, and Evans has shown flashes of competence as his time as the starter for ULL. Expect the leash to be short, so Smith could get time again if Evans struggles.

Louisiana-Monroe redshirt junior QB Garrett Smith completed 14-of-23 passes for 225 yards and three touchdowns in Saturday's 47-37 loss to Georgia State.

This was Smith's first extended action of the season -- he took over for an ineffective Caleb Evans in the contest -- and he played well enough with the opportunity. While he did show out nicely on Saturday, the 6-foot, 211-pounder will probably return to his backup role against South Alabama next weekend. Evans has played respectable (if mostly unspectacular) ball this year.

UL-Monroe sophomore DT Tyler Johnson (ankle) is expected to play against Georgia State this weekend.

Johnson was limited to six plays total at Texas State last week due to the injury. He's listed as the starter at nose tackle for this weekend's game. After playing a season at Coffeyville Community College, Johnson was two-star JUCO recruit in this past cycle by Rivals.

UL-Monroe junior WR Markis McCray was listed as the backup to Marcus Green at Z receiver on this week's depth chart.

McCray didn't make the trip to Texas State due to an unlisted injury. He's expected to play against Georgia State on Saturday.

Louisiana-Monroe redshirt junior RB Derrick Gore (foot) is probable this week for Georgia State.

Gore hurt his foot during practice last week. He was limited in last week's win against Texas State. Gore is listed as the starter on this week's depth chart, so we expect him to be able to give it a go.
