| C | 1 | Matt Duchene ActiveMatt Duchene acknowledges that he didn't enjoy the greatest season, but he's unsure how this will affect the contract he receives as a restricted free agent. "Tough year to base what I’m worth, but I also had two pretty darn good years before this, and I’m only going to be better from this experience," Duchene said. "I can’t emphasize enough how much I want to be a part of this franchise, but at the same time I have to do what’s right for me as well. I really hope things work out, and I’m sure they will. I’m hoping they still have me as a big part of the plan here." Duchene struggled by amassing only 28 points in 58 games this season, but he should be considered one of the best bounce-back candidates next year. Apr 8 |
| 2 | Paul Stastny ActivePaul Stastny notched a goal and two assists for Team USA in Tuesday's 5-2 win over Switzerland. Anaheim Ducks Cam Fowler and Bobby Ryan added a goal and an assist apiece for the Americans in the victory. Stastny concluded the preliminary round with eight points in seven games. The United States will play Finland in their quarterfinal contest on Thursday. May 16 |
| 3 | Ryan O'Reilly ActiveRyan O'Reilly potted two goals for Canada in a 5-1 win over Belarus in preliminary round action Tuesday. The Canadians clinched the top seed in Group H and will play Slovakia in the quarterfinals on Thursday. Anaheim forwards Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf posted a goal and an assist each in the contest. May 16 |
| 4 | Jay McClement ActiveJay McClement scored a goal in a 3-2 shootout loss Saturday afternoon. David Jones netted his 10th power-play goal of the season. Paul Stastny, Ryan O'Reilly, and Daniel Winnik each registered an assist for Colorado. Feb 4 |
| 5 | Mark Olver ActiveIn his initial contest Friday night following a callup from Lake Erie of the AHL, center Mark Olver scored a goal and assisted on another in the Colorado Avalanche's 3-1 victory over the Edmonton Oilers at Rexall Place. What took the Avs so long to call this guy up anyway? "I'm just happy to contribute," Olver said. "I missed 35 games with a concussion this year, so it was tough, but it's the way it can be sometimes in this game. I just am happy to have gotten a chance again tonight and it went well, thanks to my teammates." Feb 18 |
| LW | 1 | Gabriel Landeskog ActiveGabriel Landeskog has been nominated for the Calder Trophy. Of the three nominees, Landeskog finished third in terms of point-per-games, but he still had a great 52 points in 82 games. However, the case for Landeskog is that he's the most complete player on the list. Landeskog is sound defensively and a physical presence. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins might be the flasher player, but don't be surprised if Landeskog wins the award. The third Calder nominee is Adam Henrique. Apr 20 |
| 2 | Jamie McGinn ActiveJamie McGinn will play Thursday after missing last Friday's game with a back injury. The Avalanche must win to keep their playoff hopes alive, but they also need help, and McGinn has been a productive player for the club since arriving at the trade deadline. He has 12 points in 15 games. Apr 5 |
| 3 | Cody McLeod ActiveDon't be surprised if Cody McLeod is traded to the Canucks. Vancouver could be looking for an agitator, and with Steve Downie on board, the Avs may be able to spare McLeod. It is also not secret that Canuck GM Mike Gillis is a fan of the Colorado pest. Feb 26 |
| 4 | Peter Mueller ActivePeter Mueller was a healthy scratch Saturday night against Vancouver. Chuck Kobasew, who had been a healthy scratch for the Avs' last four games, played in Mueller's place. If healthy, Mueller is too good a player to be sitting in the press box. Look for him to respond with a strong effort once he returns to the Colorado lineup. Mar 25 |
| RW | 1 | David Jones ActiveDavid Jones, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, is interested in staying with the Colorado Avalanche. "It's unfortunate they don't do any of their signings during a season," Jones said. "Which is fine, and just something you have to adjust to. But you can't really think about that too much right now. We still have games to play and have a hope we can make the playoffs." Even if Colorado wins both of their remaining games, they still aren't likely to make the playoffs. Jones has 19 goals and 36 points in 70 games this season. Apr 4 |
| 2 | Steve Downie ActiveSteve Downie registered his 25th assist of the season on Monday. Downie has cooled down a bit since his hot start to his Avalanche tenure, but he still has four points in his last six games. He now has 11 points and eight penalty minutes in 10 contests with Colorado. Mar 13 |
| 3 | Milan Hejduk ActiveMilan Hejduk is excited to play with the Colorado Avalanche in 2012-13. Hejduk inked a one-year deal with Colorado on Friday, ending any speculation about him retiring. "I believe in this organization and our young players and look forward to helping the team in any way that I can," Hejduk said. He'll be looking to bounce back after recording a career-low 37 points in 82 games last season. May 19 |
| 4 | Chuck Kobasew ActiveColorado Avalanche winger Chuck Kobasew received a $2,500 fine for charging Vancouver Canucks defenseman Aaron Rome. Kobasew avoids a suspension for checking the controversial defenseman, who will be sidelined for some time. The speedy forward has been a major disappointment for the Avalanche. Mar 25 |
| 5 | Kevin Porter ActiveKevin Porter was the only member of the Colorado Avalanche who managed to record a goal in the team's 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. Porter is playing some decent hockey since being suspended for a knee-to-knee hit on David Booth, but with just two goals and three points on the season, he's irrelevant from a fantasy perspective. Dec 28 |
| D | 1 | Erik Johnson ActiveErik Johnson, who is scheduled to be a restricted free agent this summer, sounds open to signing a long-term deal with Colorado. "Last time I was restricted (in 2010 with the Blues), I let the negotiations get to me a little bit," said Johnson. "This time around, I'm experienced and I'll just let my agent handle it. But there's one thing I want to make clear to my agent: I want to be here for the long haul and I love what this group has to offer and everything this organization is all about. For me, it's a no-brainer to want to come back." Johnson had four goals and 26 points in 73 games this season. He should be regarded as a sleeper candidate going into 2012-13 fantasy drafts. Apr 9 |
| 2 | Jan Hejda ActiveJan Hejda is available to return to the Colorado lineup Saturday against Los Angeles. He had been out of action due to a groin injury. Of course, there is no telling if Hejda will actually dress for the contest as the Avs' have a very deep blueline playing quite well at the moment. Jan 21 |
| 3 | Shane O'Brien ActiveShane O'Brien wants to re-sign with the Colorado Avalanche. O'Brien is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer. "We're the youngest team in the league, and we played some of the best hockey down the stretch in the whole NHL," O'Brien said. "I'd love to stay here, and hopefully it will work out. I love the boys here, so if it doesn't work out, I will be extremely disappointed." O'Brien has already played with five NHL squads in six seasons. Apr 9 |
| 4 | Ryan Wilson ActiveRyan Wilson returned to action on Friday February 17. Wilson played 19.23 minutes and was minus-one in the Colorado Avalanche's 3-1 victory over the Oilers in Edmonton Friday night. He missed one game because of an illness. Feb 18 |
| 5 | Matt Hunwick ActiveMatt Hunwick has now played in eight straight games after being a healthy scratch in 49 of the Avalanche's first 61 games. Hunwick did not make waves when he was sitting in the press box and that impressed coach Joe Sacco. "He's forced my hand. He's been really good since he's been back in the lineup, and the one thing about Matt is he's a consummate professional," Sacco said. "He's the most fit guy, and he prepares himself. The reason he's able to come in and play the way he has after being in and out of the lineup, mostly out, is he doesn't wait for the opportunity to prepare. He's already prepared, so when the opportunity comes, he's ready to go. He's diligent, a very determined kid and a good pro." He has only two goals and three points in 20 games so he has little fantasy value. Mar 10 |
| 6 | Tyson Barrie ActiveTyson Barrie has been a healthy scratch since he was called up roughly two weeks ago, but he's expected to stay on the active roster for now. Barrie is 21-years-old and he could certainly use the playing time. However, things have been going well for Colorado lately and Avalanche coach Joe Sacco is reluctant to mix things up when his team is winning. So why not just send Barrie to the minors? "We want to have depth at this time of year," Sacco said. The Avalanche probably also think that Barrie being around the Avalanche during their push for a playoff spot will help him out in the long run. Mar 8 |
| 7 | Ryan O'Byrne ActiveColorado defenseman Ryan O’Byrne will return to the lineup Thursday night in Nashville. O’Byrne last played Feb. 22 against the Kings when he suffered a knee injury that landed him on IR. The 27-year-old defenseman is 1-5-6 in 61 games. Mar 6 |
| 8 | Stefan Elliott ActiveStefan Elliott was one of four Colorado Avs who were healthy scratches Thursday. He was joined in the press box by Kevin Porter, Chuck Kobasew and Ryan Wilson. Just an FYI. Apr 6 |
| G | 1 | Semyon Varlamov ActiveSemyon Varlamov has led Team Russia all the way to the gold medal game. Varlamov has a 1.74 GAA and .940 save percentage. If he can stand tall against Team Slovakia on Sunday, then Russia could end up with their first gold medal in the IIHF World Championship since 2009. Varlamov had a rough start to his 2011-12 campaign, but he bounced back after the all-star break. He might be a nice value pick in 2012 fantasy drafts. May 19 |
| 2 | Jean-Sebastien Giguere ActiveJ.S. Giguere had a miserable game Sunday night. Although there was plenty of blame to spread around after Colorado's 6-1 drubbing at the hands of the Predators, Giguere will have to take some of the heat for the loss. The veteran goalie will have all summer to ponder his future. Apr 8 |
