| C | 1 | Daymond Langkow ActiveDaymond Langkow scored the lone Phoenix Coyotes goal in their 2-1 loss in Game 3 of the Western Conference final Thursday night against the Los Angeles Kings. The goal was the veteran's first of the playoffs, though he does have three of his seven playoff points over his last four games. Keith Yandle and Derek Morris had the assists. Phoenix hasn't gotten any production in this series from its top scorers during the regular season, Radim Vrbata and Ray Whitney. The duo has been held pointless over the last six games. Phoenix is one loss away from heading home for the summer. May 17 |
Antoine Vermette ActiveThe transition from Columbus to Phoenix for Antoine Vermette has been a pretty smooth one. Vermette had 10 points in 22 regular season games with the Coyotes after he was acquired near the trade deadline, but he's gotten more comfortable since he's been in Phoenix, tallying five goals and 10 points in the playoffs. "[General manager] Don [Maloney] did a lot of homework on him, not just watch a lot of video of him playing, but a lot of homework on his personality, coach Dave Tippett said. "We always talk about we need players that are going to fit well into our group. Everything Don heard about Antoine was very good, very good teammate. Sometimes, you get players that are outcasts in the dressing room. That wasn't the case. He was at the forefront of leadership, things he was trying to do. Good experience with the playoffs with Ottawa. We felt it was a player that fit well into our group, personality and play-wise." May 22
Martin Hanzal ActiveMartin Hanzal had been battling a rib injury during the playoffs. Other players on the Coyotes were suffering from ailments as well, but GM Don Maloney said Hanzal may be the only one that needs off-season attention. He will be further evaluated now that the team's season is over. May 24
Boyd Gordon ActiveThe Phoenix Coyotes have definitely been buying into the plans of coach Dave Tippett. "It's just the makeup of our team," Tippett said. "We have jobs we expect them to do and guys kind of filter into those jobs or they earn those jobs. It's part of my job to put them in those situations so they can be successful. You get put in that role and if you stay there you usually earn it. It's just something that falls into place." It's really working on the penalty kill as Boyd Gordon and Lauri Korpikoski have starred during the man-disadvantage. May 11
Marc-Antoine Pouliot ActiveMarc-Antoine Pouliot netted his first career playoff goal in Tuesday's loss to Los Angeles. His marker gave Phoenix a 2-1 lead early into the second period, but the desert dogs were eliminated from the playoffs by a 4-3 score after Dustin Penner's overtime winner. Pouliot generated two points in eight postseason appearances after he contributed no goals and four assists in 13 regular-season games. He is slated to be a restricted free agent this summer. May 23
Scott Arnold ActiveScott Arnold has been called up by the Phoenix Coyotes. Arnold just signed a two-year, entry-level contract with Phoenix. He had 10 goals and eight assists in 33 games with Niagara University this season. Mar 23
Kyle Chipchura ActiveKyle Chipchura scored the first playoff goal of his NHL career and added an assist in the Coyotes’ Game 6, 4-0 series-clinching win at Chicago. Chipchura’s goal was window dressing as it came with 5:04 remaining and accounted for the final margin. His assist was anything but fluff as it came on Gilbert Brule’s goal early in the final period to give Phoenix a 2-0 lead. Chipchura was a plus-2 on the evening. Apr 24
Alexandre Bolduc ActivePhoenix Coyotes center Alexander Bolduc was fined but not suspended for slew-footing San Jose Sharks tough guy Ryane Clowe. Bolduc was just recently recalled for the Coyotes. It appears that the league is very reluctant to hand players suspension for slew-footing (despite the fact that it's one of the more dangerous infractions int the sport). Mar 25
| LW | 1 | Ray Whitney ActiveRay Whitney played with back, stomach and shoulder injuries in the Stanley Cup playoffs. No wonder he was mostly ineffective for the Coyotes of late as it takes a lot longer to recover from injuries at the age of 40 than it does his much younger teammates. Whitney was an offensive stud this season with 24 goals and 77 points in the regular season. He is an unrestricted free agent and if he does not re-sign with the Coyotes, then look for a big two-year contract for the veteran who will be healthy for the start of training camp. May 25 |
Lauri Korpikoski ActiveLauri Korpikoski believes his injuries are behind him and he can play the way he has to in the postseason now. "I'm not sure when we're going to start, but these extra days won't hurt," he said. "I think I'll be even better going forward." Korpikoski has skated in six of Phoenix's 11 playoff contests, but he returned to the lineup in Game 5 against Nashville and looked up to speed. He is still looking for his first point during the NHL's second season. May 10
Taylor Pyatt ActiveTaylor Pyatt had a big night, but it wasn't enough as the Phoenix Coyotes lost 4-3 in OT as the Los Angeles Kings won the series 4-1. Pyatt had a goal and an assist in the losing effort. Keith Yandle and Marc-Antoine Pouliot were the Coyotes other goal scorers, but Pyatt was the only player with more than one point. Kyle Chipchura, Martin Hanzal, Rostislav Klesla and Radim Vrbata collected one helper apiece. Shane Doan had a -1 rating and zero points but also had five shots on goal, six hits and 10 penalty minutes. May 23
Raffi Torres SuspendedRaffi Torres will meet with league officials Thursday to appeal his 25-game ban. The forward was suspended during the Coyotes’ opening-round series after his hit to the head of Chicago’s Marian Hossa. The concern is not the suspension itself, but the length. It is the league's longest since the Islanders' Chris Simon received a 30-game sentence in 2007. May 15
| RW | 1 | Shane Doan ActiveShane Doan was not pleased with the way he reacted during the post-game handshakes after Game 5. A hockey tradition is that both teams shake hands when a playoff series is over and while Doan shook hands, his demeanor was less than stellar. He was upset with the questionable hit that Dustin Brown put on Michal Rozsival after the whistle in overtime. "Brownie wanted to explain himself, and at the moment, I wasn't ready to hear it," Doan said. "I said, 'Not right now. Are you kidding me? Not right now.' That was my expression. That's all I'm saying. But at the same time, everyone who has ever played in a playoff game has done the handshake line. Am I arrogant enough to think I'm the only player who felt bad? No. And in that situation, I have to be in better control of my emotions." Hopefully these comments will end this latest battle although do not be surprised if the Kings go after Brown in the first regular season game in 2012-13. May 25 |
Radim Vrbata ActiveRadim Vrbata managed to snap his seven-game playoff scoring drought, but it wasn't enough to extend their season. He posted an assist on Taylor Pyatt's power-play goal to open the scoring in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Kings in Game 5. With the defeat the Coyotes are done in the 2012 playoffs and the Kings will play for the Stanley Cup. Vrbata led the Coyotes with 35 goals during the regular season, but he found the back of the net just two times in 16 postseason games. He concluded the team's thrilling playoff run with a mere five points and a minus-3 rating. May 23
Mikkel Boedker ActiveMikkel Boedker is second in playoff scoring on the Coyotes. Boedker is coming into his own in the playoffs with four goals and eight points. Boedker was the eighth overall pick in the 2008 Entry Draft but has been struggling and has been up and down with the Coyotes and their AHL team since being drafted. The good news is that he is still only 21 and ready to bust out. Grab him next year late in deeper pools. May 20
Gilbert Brule ActiveGilbert Brule is scheduled to be a restricted free agent on July 1. He will join Chris Summers and Kyle Chipchura as RFAs. Brule was the sixth overall pick in the 2005 Entry Draft by the Blue Jackets and while he has kicked around a bit as he was also a member of the Edmonton Oilers, he still has some offensive upside. Look for the Coyotes to re-sign the forward in the off-season. May 25
Paul Bissonnette ActivePaul Bissonnette drew into the Coyotes lineup for Game 3 Thursday. The winger only managed to see 3:02 minutes of action in the loss to Los Angeles as he replaced Gilbert Brule in the Phoenix lineup. He had not played since Game 4 of the first round against the Coyotes. He likely will not draw back into the lineup. May 18
Brett MacLean ActiveThe Phoenix Coyotes have recalled Brett MacLean from the minors. The Coyotes recalled nine players including Maclean who started the season with the Winnipeg Jets before being claimed by Phoenix on Oct. 29. Apr 20
Andy Miele ActiveThe Phoenix Coyotes have recalled Andy Miele from the minors. Miele had no points in seven NHL games this season and with the Coyotes farm team in Portland eliminated, he was recalled for depth. Apr 20
| D | 1 | Oliver Ekman-Larsson ActiveOliver Ekman-Larsson led the Phoenix Coyotes in ice time in the first round of the playoffs. Ekman-Larsson averaged 26:31 minutes per game, amazing considering that he is only 20 years of age. He is going to be one of the top blueliners in the NHL in the next couple of years and is still a big secret because he plays in the desert. He is worth grabbing next season in all fantasy leagues. Apr 27 |
Keith Yandle ActiveKeith Yandle has contributed seven assists, which currently leads all blueliners, in 11 playoff games. His seven points has him tied with teammate Rostislav Klesla and New York's Daniel Girardi for the most among defensemen in the NHL postseason. Yandle cracked the 40-point mark for a third straight season in 2011-12, with 11 goals and 32 assists in 82 games, and is quickly establishing himself as a top-flight fantasy rearguard. May 10
Adrian Aucoin SidelinedCoach Dave Tippett indicated Adrian Aucoin (lower body) will be a game-time decision. The veteran defenseman was injured in Game 5 of the conference semifinal against Nashville. He has two assists and is a plus-4 in 10 playoff games. May 22
Rostislav Klesla ActiveRostislav Klesla's face continues to take a beating in the postseason, but he continues to tough it out. The Coyotes defenseman has been hit in the face three times this postseason. He began the playoffs with six points in seven games, but then took a stick to the face in Game 6 against the Blackhawks, returning to play with a full-cage helmet. He got rid of the cage because it was distracting his vision, and then took a puck to the chin against the Predators in Game 2 of the second-round series. The bad luck continued in Game 1 of the Western Conference final, when Dustin Brown's shot deflected off of goalie Mike Smith and into Klesla's face. "I guess it's kind of tough luck," Klesla said. "In this game, you get hit in your face every once in a while, maybe every couple of years. To get hit three times in three weeks is a bit strange." May 15
Derek Morris ActiveDerek Morris received a kneeing penalty in Tuesday's Game 2 loss to Los Angeles, but he won't face supplemental discipline for the infraction. NHL Director of Player Safety Brendan Shanahan said via his twitter page that the two minute penalty on the play was sufficient punishment. The incident occurred during the third period on Kings defenseman Rob Scuderi. Morris, who has been steady on the blueline for Phoenix with five points and a plus-4 rating in 13 playoff games, will be eligible to play in Game 3 Thursday night. May 16
Michal Rozsival ActivePhoenix GM said that Michal Rozsival is on crutches, but there doesn't appear to be any stuctural damage to his knee. Rozsival wasn't able to put any weight on it after his knee collided with Dustin Brown's in overtime during Game 5 on Tuesday night. He left the ice with assistance and the Kings scored the game-winning goal the next shift to eliminate the Coyotes from postseason play. May 24
David Rundblad ActiveThe Phoenix Coyotes have recalled defenseman David Rundblad from the minors. Rundblad was sent to Portland of the AHL on March 13. Rundblad's first season in North America saw him score once with six assists in 30 NHL games split between Ottawa and Phoenix as he was dealt to the Coyotes along with a second round pick for Kyle Turris in mid-December. The Coyotes are high on the blueliner so expect him to be fantasy relevant in the next couple of seasons. Apr 20
David Schlemko ActiveDavid Schlemko dressed for the Coyotes in Game 5 on Tuesday night. He filled in for injured rearguard Adrian Aucoin in the contest. Schlemko skated in five playoffs games for Phoenix and two against the Kings in the Western Conference Finals. He had no points and six shots over that time. May 23
Maxim Goncharov ActiveDefenseman Maxim Goncharov has been recalled by the Phoenix Coyotes. Just an FYI. The fifth round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft has yet to play a game in the NHL. Apr 20
Michael Stone ActiveMichael Stone was back in the Phoenix lineup Thursday as Adrian Aucoin is still unable to go. Stone made his NHL playoff debut on Tuesday as he lined up on the blueline alongside Rostislav Klesla. He played only 10:22 minutes on Thursday after playing 12:15 in Game 2 and was minus-one in each game. The 21-year-old rookie appeared in 13 games for Phoenix during the regular season, where he generated three points and a plus-7 rating. May 18
Chris Summers ActiveThe Phoenix Coyotes have summoned Chris Summers. Summers was sent down on December 25th so that he could continue to practice and play during the NHL All-Star break. He has three assists in nine games with Phoenix. Jan 30
| G | 1 | Mike Smith ActiveMike Smith has one year remaining on his current deal, but Phoenix GM Don Maloney appears to be open to locking the goaltender up to a long-term contract. The Coyotes have to re-sign Shane Doan as well, which is reportedly their top priority this off-season as their captain is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent, but Maloney said he would explore the possibility of Smith's future with the club too. Smith silenced his doubters in 2011-12 with a 38-18-10 record, including eight shutouts, a .930 save percentage and a 2.21 GAA in his first season as Phoenix's number one goalie. May 24 |
Jason LaBarbera ActiveJason LaBarbera allowed four goals on 27 shots in the Coyotes' 4-0 loss to St. Louis Sunday. With Mike Smith needing a rest, LaBarbera was given the nod in an important game, but the team's struggles continued. It's conceivable that LaBarbera doesn't receive any more starts the rest of the way. Mar 26
