David Phelps was diagnosed with a right forearm contusion.

Phelps was removed from his start against the Rays in the eight inning on Friday after being drilled on the forearm by a line drive. However, X-rays ruled out anything serious. It sounds like he'll be fine to make his next scheduled start against the Mets, but Ivan Nova is a candidate to replace him if the Yankees decide to play it safe.
May 24 - 10:35 PM

Brett Gardner smacked a two-run homer in Friday's 9-4 win over the Rays.

It was his fourth home run of the season and his first since April 26. The 29-year-old hasn't been as active on the basepaths as usual, as he only has nine stolen bases in 47 games, but he's currently on pace to reach new career-highs in home runs and RBI.
May 24 - 10:22 PM

David Adams went 2-for-5 with two runs scored Friday against the Rays.

Adams has been a pleasant surprise as a stopgap option at third base for the Bombers, hitting .323 (10-for-31) with two homers, two doubles and three RBI in eight games. Keep running him out there in AL-only leagues, but Kevin Youkilis (back) appears on track to return from the disabled list late next week.
May 24 - 10:20 PM

Curtis Granderson (fractured knuckle) will miss a minimum of four weeks.

Granderson sustained the injury when he was hit by a pitch during the fifth inning of Friday's game against the Rays. It's a tough blow for the Yankees, who will turn back to Ichiro Suzuki and Brennan Boesch to carry the load while Granderson is sidelined.
May 24 - 10:20 PM

David Phelps was removed in the eighth inning of Friday's game against the Rays after being drilled by a line drive on the right forearm.

It's a very tough break for Phelps who had pitched fairly well in the game. He logged a career-high 7 2/3 innings, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out three. He retired the first 13 hitters he faced on the night before James Loney doubled with one out in the fifth. The Yankees should have an update on his status after the conclusion of the game.
May 24 - 9:55 PM

Curtis Granderson suffered a fractured knuckle on his left pinkie finger after getting hit by a pitch in the fifth inning of Friday's contest against the Rays.

The Yankees haven't yet announced a timetable for how much time he may miss, but will comment further on his status after the game. It's a potentially devastating blow for Granderson who finally returned from the disabled list on May 14 after missing the start of the season with a fractured forearm from being hit by a pitch during spring training.
May 24 - 9:51 PM

Curtis Granderson was removed from Friday's game against the Rays in the fifth inning after he was hit in the left hand by a pitch.

Granderson remained in the game to run for himself, but continued to flex and shake his hand. However, Ichiro Suzuki replaced him in right field in the bottom of the inning. He's likely heading for X-rays and the team should have an update on his status shortly.
May 24 - 8:45 PM

Kevin Youkilis (back) will play in an extended spring training game Saturday.

Mark Teixeira is also slated to play as he works his way back from a wrist injury. Youkilis has been sidelined for nearly a month with a lumbar spine strain, but he could rejoin the Yankees late next week if he can avoid setbacks.
May 24 - 5:24 PM

Mark Teixeira (wrist) expects to play rehab games with Double-A Trenton next Wednesday and Thursday.

Teixeira has participated in simulated games this week and will test himself in extended spring training on Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. He'll be reevaluated after his two rehab games with Trenton, but there's a chance that he could be activated from the disabled list late next week if all goes well. Teixeira has been sidelined since early March with a torn tendon sheath in his wrist.
May 24 - 5:11 PM

Andy Pettitte (trapezius) played catch Thursday and Friday and is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday.

Pettitte was placed on the disabled list last week with a strained trapezius muscle, but he's currently throwing without any discomfort. The veteran left-hander expects to throw a simulated game rather than go out on a minor league rehab assignment. Either way, he should return around when he's first eligible on June 1.
May 24 - 5:00 PM

Yankees optioned RHP Dellin Betances to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Betances was called up from the minors last week, but didn't throw a pitch during his time with the big club. He'll return to a 5.40 ERA over 28 1/3 innings in Triple-A.
May 24 - 4:11 PM

Yankees activated RHP Ivan Nova from the 15-day disabled list.

While Nova is back, it's not clear what his role will be initially. For what it's worth, he's listed among the relievers for Friday's game. Nova has been sidelined since late April with right triceps inflammation.
May 24 - 4:09 PM

Chris Stewart (groin) is back in the Yankees' starting lineup Friday against the Rays.

Stewart injured his left groin on an awkward slide into third base last Thursday, but managed to avoid a stint on the disabled list. Austin Romine will move back into a backup role.
May 24 - 4:06 PM

Ivan Nova (triceps) could be activated from the disabled list early next week.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi was vague about a possible timeline for Nova when asked Wednesday, but general manager Brian Cashman said Thursday that he is the closest to returning among the team's injured players. However, it isn't clear whether he'll do so as a member of the starting rotation.
May 23 - 4:58 PM

Mark Teixeira (wrist) could begin a minor league rehab assignment Tuesday with Double-A Trenton.

Teixeira has participated in simulated games this week without incident and took batting practice Thursday in Tampa. The 33-year-old was originally aiming to return from the disabled by May 31, but he may need a few extra days to shake the rust. Still, he's making fine progress.
