Denard Span (foot) is back in the Nationals' starting lineup on Tuesday night against the Phillies.

Span sat out Monday after fouling yet another ball off his right foot on Sunday. He's had some bad luck this year.
Jun 18 - 4:09 PM

Dan Haren gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings Monday in a no-decision against the Phillies.

Haren struck out 10 Phillies last time he faced them on May 25. Tonight, he managed just three strikeouts, which is closer to his norm for the season. He's giving up too many homers, he's not working deep into games and he's not getting much support from the offense. Until something there changes, he'll remains pretty much worthless in fantasy leagues.
Jun 17 - 10:55 PM

Bryce Harper (knee) has been cleared to resume strengthening activities.

Harper experienced "a little puffiness" in his left knee while doing range of motion exercises on Saturday, but that wasn't a cause for alarm. The 20-year-old will now progress from walking and jogging to running and other baseball activities. It's not clear how long the process will take, but if he keeps improving, it could happen quickly. A return before the end of the month appears realistic.
Jun 17 - 5:03 PM

Adam LaRoche is not in the Nationals' starting lineup on Monday night versus the Phillies.

Philly is throwing left-hander John Lannan so Chris Marrero will play first base. LaRoche has a .739 OPS, 10 home runs and 30 RBI through 65 games this season.
Jun 17 - 3:28 PM

Denard Span (foot) is not in the Nationals' starting lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies.

Span fouled a ball off his foot on Sunday. He's hoping to be back in the lineup Tuesday. Jeff Kobernus will start in center field versus the Phillies.
Jun 17 - 3:25 PM

Nationals released RHP Matt Torra.

Torra had a 5.53 ERA in 27 2/3 innings this season at Triple-A Syracuse. The 28-year-old right-hander will presumably try to latch on with a new organization.
Jun 17 - 12:05 PM

Stephen Strasburg held the Indians to one run on one hit and four walks over five innings but suffered the loss in his return from the disabled list.

The only hit Strasburg allowed was a one-out single to Carlos Santana in the fourth, which scored the lone tally against him. He obviously wasn't totally sharp, though, given the four free passes. Still, Strasburg's velocity was fine and, most importantly, he appeared to feel fine physically. Despite a 3-6 record, Strasburg now boasts a 2.50 ERA and 1.06 WHIP. He'll get the Rockies at home next.
Jun 16 - 4:02 PM

Nationals manager Davey Johnson said Bryce Harper had "a little puffiness" in his left knee after doing some range of motion exercises on Saturday.

Johnson was quick to point out that the team's training staff wasn't concerned, as some minor swelling seemed to be expected. Harper will resume baseball activities early this week before hopefully beginning a rehab assignment before the end of the week. Harper hasn’t played since May 26, when he aggravated his left knee bursitis.
Jun 16 - 12:57 PM

Nationals optioned LHP Xavier Cedeno to Triple-A Syracuse.

Cedeno fared better in his second go-round with the big club but still holds a 9.39 ERA and 2.48 WHIP over seven appearances this season. He could get another shot later on.
Jun 16 - 8:54 AM

Nationals activated RHP Stephen Strasburg from the 15-day disabled list.

Strasburg has been out since late May with a strained lat, but he was officially cleared to rejoin the rotation Sunday after throwing a bullpen session Thursday with no issues. The right-hander will boast a 2.54 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 73/21 K/BB ratio over 74 1/3 innings when he takes on the Indians.
Jun 16 - 8:52 AM

Anthony Rendon hit the game-winning homer Saturday in the Nationals' 7-6 defeat of the Indians.

Rendon's ninth-inning solo blast gave the Nats a one-run lead and Rafael Soriano held the Tribe scoreless in the bottom half of the frame. Rendon also doubled and singled in what was probably his best game yet in the major leagues. The talented 23-year-old is batting .333/.406/.491 overall this season and has been especially productive since his latest callup from the minors.
Jun 15 - 10:54 PM

Jordan Zimmermann was shelled for six runs in five innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Indians.

Zimmermann was not sharp and the dangerous Cleveland offense was able to take advantage. The right-hander allowed a total of eight hits, two of which were homers, while watching his ERA jump from 2.00 to 2.44. He'll look to get back to his ace-like ways in his next start at home against the Rockies. That's another good run-producing team.
Jun 15 - 10:49 PM

Nationals prospect Sammy Solis is currently dealing with "general shoulder soreness."

The injury isn't a major concern, but Solis missed all of 2012 due to Tommy John surgery. The 24-year-old left hander has a 3.38 ERA over four starts with the Nationals' High-A affiliate.
Jun 15 - 11:25 AM

Christian Garcia (shoulder, forearm) has been shut down from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Syracuse.

Garcia has been dealing with shoulder issues and is expected to receive treatment and be rested as a precautionary measure. The Nationals want Garcia to make four or five straight rehab outings without any problems before returning from the disabled list. Garcia has yet to pitch at the major league level this season due to a partial tendon tear in his forearm. He has a 2.57 ERA and eight strikeouts in seven innings over his first five rehab appearances.
Jun 15 - 11:17 AM

Gio Gonzalez spun seven innings of one-run ball in a no-decision against the Indians on Friday.

Gonzalez allowed just three hits while the only damage came on a solo homer by Ryan Raburn in the fourth inning. The southpaw fanned eight and walked four in the no-decision. While he's winless over his last seven starts, he has allowed more than three runs in just one of them. He'll face the Phillies next week in Philadelphia.
