Brad Keselowski jumped to the top of the leaderboard in the closing minutes of final practice for the Bojangles' Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. His top speed was 175.880 mph.

Keselowski was also fast in regard to single laps last year at Darlington. He qualified fifth but lost 12 positions before the end of the race. In nearly half of his starts on this track, Keselowski lost ground in the race.

Kevin Harvick can be added to the list of drivers with Darlington Stripes. His contact was relatively light and should not require a backup.

Harvick’s contact came in the final few minutes of final practice. To find the edge, drivers have to step over it on occasion and Harvick should still be a good bet to finish in the top five.
Sep 4 - 6:26 PM

Just past the halfway point of final practice, Kyle Busch became the latest driver to get a Darlington Stripe. His damage was significant enough that he will roll out a backup.

Busch cannot afford a bad run because he can still fall out of the top 30 in the points. He will have to come from the back of the pack and needs to race conservatively. Conventionality is not really in Busch’s wheel house, however, and fantasy owners should be a little nervous about starting him.
Sep 4 - 5:39 PM

Chase Elliott slapped the Darlington Raceway wall halfway through final practice. He sustained significant damage to the right side of his car and the team will need to evaluate whether a backup is needed. He hit the turn four wall.

Elliott also scrapped the wall in the first session. If a fantasy owner is trying to decide between the part time Ryan Blaney or Elliott, the edge goes to the No. 21 driver based on speed and reliability.
Sep 4 - 5:25 PM

Trevor Bayne logged only 20 laps in the first practice session for the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. His top speed of 172.336 mph was only 31st on the speed chart.

Bayne cannot be happy with his car and has only one more opportunity to fix it. He is not recommended this week and should be saved for an unrestricted, intermediate speedway.
Sep 4 - 4:58 PM

Jeb Burton may face his toughest challenge in the NASCAR Cup series as he attempts to qualify for the Bojangles' Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. To comfortably make the field, he needs to qualify among the top 36, but he was only 44th in the first practice session.

The 37th through 46th positions on the morning practice charts had several drivers ahead of him in points including Matt DiBenedetto, Michael Annett, Justin Allgaier, and Cole Whitt. That increases the importance of qualifying well and he is one of the drivers most in jeopardy of going home on Saturday.
Sep 4 - 4:55 PM

Ryan Blaney is one of the drivers needing to qualify on time if he wants to race in the Bojangles' Southern 500 and he seems to be in pretty good shape. At the end of the first practice session, he wound up eighth on the chart wedged between Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin.

As a part time driver, Blaney could be one of the best dark horses of the weekend. He was 14th on the final practice charts 30 minutes into the session.
Sep 4 - 4:52 PM

Brendan Gaughan (No. 62 South Point Chevrolet Camaro) has the best 10-lap consecutive average speed in the first practice for the XFINITY Series VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 at Darlington Raceway.

The average speed of 160,346 mph was best of the five cars that ran 10 consecutive laps on the track for this session. No. 6 Darrell Wallace Jr. (158.966 mph), No. 14 Cale Conley (157.369), No. 18 Daniel Suarez (156.690) and No. 8 Blake Koch (154.547) are the others on this list.
Sep 4 - 3:03 PM

Sprint Cup driver Kyle Busch led the first practice session for the XFINITY Series VFW Sport Clips Help a Hero 200 at Darlington Raceway.

The lap of 167.379 mph in the No. 54 Monster Energy Toyota was best of the 35 cars out on the track for this session. No. 20 Denny Hamlin, No. 33 Paul Menard, No. 22 Joey Logano and No. 3 Ty Dillon are the rest of the top five on the speed chart. Harrison Rhodes in the No. 0 Chevrolet Camaro was the slowest.
Sep 4 - 3:01 PM

Kevin Harvick was fourth fastest in the first practice session for the Bojangles' Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway with a speed of 175.654 mph. He landed behind teammates Kurt Busch (175.842) and Tony Stewart (175.710).

When an organization shows consistent speed across all of their members, that is generally a good sign that the lead drivers will run well. Expect top-five battles from Busch and Harvick.
Sep 4 - 1:39 PM

Tony Stewart was third fastest in the first practice session for the Bojangles' Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway with a speed of 175.710 mph. He landed between teammates Kurt Busch (175.842) and Kevin Harvick (175.654).

When an organization shows consistent speed across all of their members, that is generally a good sign that the lead drivers will run well. Expect top-five battles from Busch and Harvick. Stewart should be able to challenge for a top-15.
Sep 4 - 1:37 PM

Kurt Busch landed second on the speed chart behind Greg Biffle in the first round of practice for the Bojangles' Southern 500. His top speed was 175.842 mph.

Perhaps the most notable fact was that Busch lined up just ahead of Tony Stewart in third (175.710) and Kevin Harvick in fourth (175.654). When an organization shows consistent speed across all of their members, that is generally a good sign that the lead drivers will run well. Expect top-five battles from Busch and Harvick.
Sep 4 - 1:33 PM

Greg Biffle posted the fastest single lap in the first practice session for the Bojangles' Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway. His top speed was 176.201 mph, which was 0.359 mph faster than second-place Kurt Busch.

Biffle enters the weekend with a four-race, top-15 streak, but he needs to win if he wants to advance into the Chase. That is not completely impossible because Biffle scored his third career Darlington top-five on this track last year.
Sep 4 - 1:05 PM

Austin Dillon got the first Darlington Stripe early in practice for the Bojangles' Southern 500. He slapped the wall hard enough to do significant damage and might have to go to a backup. The team is attempting to repair first.

Dillon got off to a strong start last year with an 11th in his rookie season. He should be able to rebound, but players looking for a strong sophomore might want to turn their attention to Kyle Larson.
Sep 4 - 11:17 AM

A top-five is all but certain for Kevin Harvick this week. He enters the Bojangles' Southern 500 at Darlington as the defending winner from 2014, finished fifth there in 2013, and has five top-fives in the last six races of this season.

In addition, Harvick has finished on the lead lap in his last six Darlington starts, which suggests he will finish strong even if he stumbles. There is no such thing as firm certainly in NASCAR and Harvick has four crash-induced results in 18 starts, but he should be a safe pick.
Sep 3 - 4:21 PM

Jimmie Johnson enters the Bojangles' Southern 500 with three consecutive top-fives at Darlington. He was third last year and fourth in 2013, but his crowning moment was in 2012 when he scored his third victory with the Lady in Black.

Nine of Johnson’s 16 Darlington attempts ended in top-fives, which equals 56 percent of his starts. If he practices well this weekend, he should be a staple on most rosters despite his recent down-tick in 2015 results.
Sep 3 - 4:20 PM

Greg Biffle should be a solid mid-cap pick this week at Darlington Raceway. He enters the weekend with four consecutive top-15s on this track, all of which ended on the lead lap.

Biffle finished fifth in this race last year and he had back-to-back victories at the Track Too Tough to Tame in 2005/2006. Fantasy owners should not expect results in that range, but a little strategy should provide a top-10 and that will make him a good value at his cap level.
Sep 3 - 4:18 PM

All of the Chase contending drivers lacking wins need to be careful this week at Darlington Raceway. One bad finish, coupled with a victory by a unique winner, could knock them out of contention and Paul Menard was scored 41st in last year’s Bojangles' Southern 500 after suffering crash damage.

That was only the second time in eight starts on this track that Menard was involved in a notable accident. He was also bent up in 2010, but has managed to reach the checkers in every race he started.
Sep 3 - 4:17 PM

JJ Yeley probably will not make too many rosters this week, but he could be a provisionally good value. In his last two starts on this track, he started last both times before finishing 37th in 2012 and 35th last year.

In games that offer place differential points, that means that he scored seven points on average. That is not enough to win one’s league, but it could help differentiate a roster if the competition takes a low-cap driver who qualifies well and finishes badly.
Sep 3 - 4:15 PM

Ryan Truex will make his return to the NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) for three races this season with Richard Petty Motorsports and will pilot the No. 98 Ford Mustang for Biagi DenBeste Racing.

He will hit the track at Richmond for his first NXS start of the 2015 season. He will also compete at Kentucky Speedway and Charlotte Motor Speedway. Truex has a combined 65 starts in NASCAR's top national touring series. He has 35 NXS starts with one pole, two Top-Five and nine Top-10 finishes with a best effort of second at Dover in 2012. Truex has made four NXS starts at Richmond, resulting in one Top-Five and two Top-10 finishes.-Breaking Limits
