Kevin Harvick’s crew chief Rodney Childers has been suspended for one race as the result of a lug nut violation at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. He will be replaced by Dax Gerringer.

The depth of this team is such that this would normally not impact them at all. However, Harvick has been so critical of his team recently that one has to wonder exactly how this will impact the dynamic. Childers may be more accustomed to dealing with the fieriness of Harvick.

In a test earlier this week, Brad Keselowski apparently lost his brakes on the frontstretch at Watkins Glen International and slammed the wall hard. He destroyed his car and raised concerns about the safety of this corner during his weekly media availability.

Keselowski has run incredibly well at the Glen in the past, but has not yet visited Victory Lane. He has three straight second-place finishes to his credit and was looking for that little something extra to get that one spot. Last year, he finished seventh in the Cheez-it 355 at the Glen

Even though this is Cole Custer’s first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at Pocono, the #00 Chevrolet Silverado driver has experience at the "Tricky Triangle", winning the 50-lap ARCA event in August 2015. He led the final 18 laps.

The 18-year-old Californian earned his fourth top 10 of the season last week at Eldora, racing to a sixth-place finish on the dirt. Custer closed the gap at Eldora, jumping two spots to 11th in the points and just 14 points out of the eighth spot, the cutoff for the inaugural Chase for the NCWTS.-JR Motorsports

Bubba Wallace (No. 6 Fastenal Ford Mustang) will make his sixth career NASCAR XFINITY Series start at Iowa Speedway on Saturday night.

In five previous starts at the .875-Mile short track, Wallace has recorded four top-10s with a best finish of sixth coming in June 2015. He finished ninth in the June 2016 event at the speedway. In three starts in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Iowa, Wallace has earned one pole, one top-five and two top-10s with a best finish of fifth coming in Sept. 2013. In four starts in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East at the Newton, Iowa track, he earned a best finish of third in 2010.-Roush Fenway Racing

Six of Kyle Busch’s last seven attempts on flat tracks ended in top-10 finishes. That dates back to last fall’s Goody's 500 at Martinsville Speedway when he finished fifth. All but one of his top-10s was in the top five.

Busch also has recent momentum on his side with five straight top-12 results and last week’s Brickyard 400 victory. He is well worth any salary cap cost.

Iowa Speedway marks Josh Berry's (No. 88 SunEnergy1 Chevrolet Camaro) fourth career NASCAR XFINITY Series start, and his first of 2016.

Last season, Berry made one NXS start for JRM, qualifying fifth and finishing seventh at Richmond International Raceway. Berry owns seven wins this season competing in the No. 88 JR Motorsports Late Model.-JRM

Daniel Hemric (No. 19 Blue Gate Bank Ford F-150) claimed a ninth-place finish in one previous NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start at Pocono Raceway (2015).

Has nine top 10s and four top fives in 11 races this season - average finish is 8.5. Hemric remains third in the series championship standings, just two points out of second place and 11 points behind the leader. He scored an eighth-place finish July 20 at Eldora (Rossburg, Ohio) Speedway, earning his second top-10 finish in two starts at the dirt oval.-Brad Keselowski Racing

Justin Allgaier (No. 7 BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevrolet Camaro) has one top-five and six top-10 finishes in nine XFINITY Series starts at Iowa Speedway, most recently placing seventh in the June NXS event at the .875-mile oval.

The 30-year-old’s best Iowa NXS effort came in 2012, when he led 101 laps on his way to a second-place finish. Allgaier’s fifth-place finish last weekend at Indianapolis Motor Speedway propelled him to fourth in the NXS point standings. Last weekend also marked the Illinois native’s seventh top five of 2016, his career-best effort through 18 NXS races in a single season.-JR Motorsports

AJ Allmendinger is a calculated risk at Pocono Raceway. He entered last year’s edition of this race with four 30-something results in the five Pocono races that preceded it, but he used his skills honed on road courses and finished seventh. He was not as great a value this spring, but finished 16th—four spots ahead of the midline.

Allmendinger desperately needs a strong run to calm the frustration he feels after several weeks of bad luck and mistakes. If he finishes in the top 20 again this week, he will have added confidence at Watkins Glen.
Jul 28 - 8:57 PM

Regan Smith missed three years at Pocono Raceway, but he returned to the track this spring and finished just outside of the midline mark in 22nd.

Smith is one of the cheaper options most weeks in salary cap games, so he was a good value with the points he earned through a 22nd-place finish. He qualified 35th and added seven place-differential points to his total.
Jul 28 - 8:56 PM

Jeb Burton will be behind the wheel of the No. 32 at Pocono Raceway. He also ran for this team in the June Axalta We Paint Winners 400 and finished 29th after starting 39th, which added 10 place-differential points to his total.

If a team is going to utilize several drivers in their car, this is a good plan because it allows the racer and team to develop course-specific chemistry. One of the biggest obstacles faced by part time driver is seat time and maximizing it on a given course ameliorates that.
