Justin Boston started the No. 25 Toyota 6th in the lineup for Friday night's SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 at Lucas Oil Raceway.

He took the lead on Lap 118, stayed there for 40 laps and was out front with a six second lead when Bobby Gerhart spun in turn two. Boston said he didn’t know the caution came out and, by the time he found out, he had locked up the brakes and hit Gerhart. Both cars drove away, but the damage was enough to ruin Boston’s night. He still managed an 8th place finish in what could have been a victory.

Juan Pablo Montoya posted the fastest speed in final practice for the Crown Royal 400 among drivers not running full time in NASCAR Cup competition. His top speed was 187.688 mph, which placed him sixth on the chart.

As a part time driver, Montoya is cheap in salary cap games and a solid choice in Yahoo!’s Group C. His speed was only 25/100th of a second better than Trevor Bayne in the No. 21 Wood Bros ride, however, and the battle for part time supremacy should come down to these two drivers.

Cody Coughlin finishes 11th in Friday night's ARCA Racing Series race at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana.

He started the No. 55 JEGS Toyota 16th on the grid for the SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 presented by Federated Car Care.

Michael Lira finishes 12th in Friday night's ARCA Racing Series race at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Indiana.

He started the No. 68 Gary Yeomans Ford 18th on the grid for the SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 presented by Federated Car Care.

Kyle Larson posted the fastest single lap among the rookie class in final practice for the Crown Royal 400 on Saturday. His top speed was 187.013 mph, which placed him eighth on that grid.

Larson was one of this week’s dark horse choices to win his first race at Indy and he has not done anything to cause fantasy owners to rethink that position. Even if he fails to find Victory Lane, he will be a good value if he can achieve a top-10 finish.
Jul 26 - 11:41 AM

Brad Keselowski posted the second fastest single lap in final practice for the Crown Royal 400. His top speed was 188.494 mph.

Keselowski’s speed was more than two-tenths of a second slower than Jimmie Johnson, but race trim is a great equalizer. Kevin Harvick (188.363) with Hendrick Motorsports power under his hood, Jeff Gordon (187.856), and Dale Earnhardt Jr. (187.758) rounded out the top five, which suggests Sunday’s race could come down to a battle between these teams.
Jul 26 - 11:23 AM

Only three drivers ran 10 or more laps in final practice for the Crown Royal 400, but Brian Vickers posted the quickest average speed. He went 182.549 mph during his first 10 laps on the track.

Most drivers and teams worked primarily on qualification trim in the abbreviated final session, so Vickers effort is significant not only for its speed but also because it suggests this team might be better prepared for long runs on Sunday.
Jul 26 - 11:16 AM

Rain delayed the start of final practice by an hour and a half and shortened it to only about 30 minutes, but Jimmie Johnson made the most of the abbreviated session to log the fastest single lap with a speed of 189.298 mph.

This speed eclipsed Ryan Newman’s track record set last year by more than a mile and half. Grip levels will fall off some before qualification, but look for several drivers to beat the previous record. Qualifying on the front row is important at Indy. Last year Newman and Johnson finished first and second in the Crown Royal 400 after starting in those same positions.

Kevin Harvick and at least 13 other drivers will compete in brand new chassis this week. The list of drivers includes Brad Keselowski, Austin Dillon, Kasey Kahne, Tony Stewart, Clint Bowyer, Greg Biffle, Joey Logano, Jeff Gordon, Paul Menard, Ryan Newman, Kurt Busch, AJ Allmendinger, and Jimmie Johnson. Many teams have not reported which chassis they will be using.

Teams want to bring their freshest and strongest car to this race because of its high visibility. For most of these drivers, the new car should be expected to contain the best tricks they have learned in the first 19 races of the season and their fantasy odds are positively impacted.

Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, Carl Edwards, Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Denny Hamlin, and Kevin Harvick could all clinch spots in the Chase at Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend. The magic number leaving the Crown Royal 400 is 289 points ahead of 31st-place in the points. Any driver ahead of that mark will be in the playoffs.

The fantasy impact for these seven drivers depends on their willingness to gamble for a victory. Last week at New Hampshire, Gordon and Harvick finished badly after rolling the dice on fuel and coming up snake eyes. They will be risky propositions on several occasions leading up to the Chase. If one of these drivers finish badly in back-to-back races, however, look for them to change strategies to gain some momentum.

On Sunday, Brian Vickers will make his first Indy start since finishing 15th in the 2011 Brickyard 400.

He also missed the 2010 edition of this race, but finished fifth in 2009. Those two top-15 finishes are countered somewhat by his 2014 flat track record with only one top-15 finish in five starts. He finished 19th at Pocono, which is the track most comparable to Indy. Fantasy owners should expect another result in that same general range.
