As predicted in Rotoworld's pre-race coverage this week, Jimmie Johnson snapped a seven-race, top-10 streak at Sonoma Raceway when he crossed under the checkers 13th in the Toyota / Save Mart 350.

Many drivers would be fine with top-15s, but Johnson is too expensive for players to settle for anything outside the top 10. Still, Johnson will be on fantasy radar screen next year if he can start 2017 without the mistakes that have plagued him in 2016 because this was his ninth consecutive Sonoma top-15.

For the third straight year AJ Allmendinger started on the front row at Sonoma Raceway and for the third straight year, he ran into trouble during the race. This time it was a self-inflicted pit road penalty that sent him to the back of the pack on the final stop.

The team had an uncontrolled tire with a little more than 20 laps remaining. Track position is critical on road courses and Allmendinger was forced to restart outside the top 30. Considering that, his 14th-place finish in the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway race remarkable.

The good news is that Chase Elliott was the top-finishing rookie yet again at Sonoma Raceway in the Toyota / Save Mart 350. The bad news is that his 21st-place finish snapped a six-race streak of top-10s for the Young Gun.

Elliott never looked comfortable in the car, despite winning Saturday’s K&N West race. This was his worst outing since he crashed and finished 38th in the third week of the season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, however, so he can be forgiven the momentary lapse.

Gary Klutt (#59 PoolSuppliescanada.ca/CTL Dodge) finished 13th in Friday night's NASCAR Pinty's Series (NPS) CRS Express 300 at Autodrome Chaudiere in Vallee-Jonction, Quebec.

He started seventh in the lineup and completed 231 laps of the 300-lap event. Klutt, who competed in all three series races so far this season season, dropped three spots to ninth in the 2016 NPS championship standings after this event.

Carlos Vieira (#51 51 FIFTY Energy Drink Chevrolet) finished ninth in Saturday's NASCAR K&N Pro Series-West (KNPSW) Chevy's Fresh Mex 200 at California's Sonoma Raceway road course.

He started 22nd on the grid and completed all laps of the 64-lap race. Vieira, who was making his first series start of the season, is currently 31st in the 2016 NASCAR KNPSW point standings after this event.
Jun 26 - 9:56 PM

Dave Sapienza (#36 Frankie's Towing Chevrolet) finished fifth in Saturday night's NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) Riverhead 200 at Long Island, NY's Riverhead Raceway.

He started seventh in the lineup and completed all laps of the 212-lap race. Sapienza, who has entered all six series races so far this season, is currently 16th in the 2016 NWMT championship standings after this event.
Jun 26 - 9:44 PM

German Quiroga (#11 Red Horse Racing Toyota Tundra) finished seventh in Saturday night's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Drivin' For Linemen 200 at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, IL.

He started fifth in the lineup and completed all of the 160 laps run. Quiroga, who competed in three of the nine series races so far this season, advanced four spots to 23rd in the 2016 NCWTS Championship standings after this event.
Jun 26 - 9:42 PM

Alex Tagliani (#18 Epipen/Riobel/ComplexeJCP/Juste du Pin/Cantorque Chevrolet) finished third in Friday night's NASCAR Pinty's Series (NPS) CRS Express 300 at Autodrome Chaudiere in Vallee-Jonction, Quebec.

He started fourth in the lineup and completed all laps of the 300-lap event. Tagliani, who competed in two of the three series races so far this season season, is currently 10th in the 2016 NPS championship standings.
Jun 26 - 9:39 PM

Ryan Preece (#6 T.S. Haulers, Inc./Riverhead Raceway Inc. Chevrolet) was credited with a 23rd place DNF in Saturday night's NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour (NWMT) Riverhead 200 at Long Island, NY's Riverhead Raceway.

He started second on the grid, led 61 laps and completed 184 of the 212 laps run before exiting the event (Handling). Preece, who competed in four of the six series races run this season, is currently 24th in the 2016 NWMT championship standings after this event.
Jun 26 - 9:37 PM

Kaz Grala (#24 Allegiant Travel Chevrolet Silverado) finished eighth in Saturday night's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Drivin' For Linemen 200 at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, IL.

Jun 26 - 9:22 PM

Kyle Busch finished seventh in the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway to extend his current top-10 streak on road courses to three consecutive. Last year he swept the top two positions on twisty tracks.

This may seem like a modest achievement, but it is the first time since 2008 that Busch was able to finish well in three consecutive events. His performance before last year on this track type was erratic for a time and now fantasy owners will be able to trust him a little more at Watkins Glen.
Jun 26 - 8:23 PM

Kurt Busch scored his 10th consecutive top-10 of 2016 at Sonoma Raceway in the Toyota / Save Mart 350, but just barely so. He finished the race 10th after starting fourth. That was the second straight race in which he finished 10th after also fairing that well at Michigan International Speedway.

Busch was widely regarded as one of the favorites to win at Sonoma, however, so a result of 10th was a little bit of a disappointment for fantasy owners. If he survives the wild card race at Daytona International Speedway, he should control his fate for a while on unrestricted, intermediate speedways.
Jun 26 - 8:22 PM

Kasey Kahne finished ninth in the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway, which was his fourth consecutive top-10 on this track.

File that result away for next year, but do not let it affect your pick at Watkins Glen International. Kahne has never cracked the top 10 on that track in 12 starts. His best result on NASCAR’s other road course was a 12th.
Jun 26 - 8:21 PM

Ryan Newman is a bulldog on every track type, but that is not always beneficial on road courses where finesse is a more desirable trait. Still, he finished eighth in the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway, which is his seventh top-15 in his past eight races on this track type.

Newman has been one of the best picks most weekends as a way to extend one’s salary cap in the mid-range. He is reliable and modestly priced, which makes him a great value.
Jun 26 - 8:20 PM

Kevin Harvick stumbled in qualification for the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma and rolled off the grid deep in the field. He advanced to sixth at the end of the race from 25th, however, and added 19 place-differential points and three laps led to his fantasy total.

Harvick is one of the most expensive drivers in the game, but he came close to being a good value with these add-ons. Next week features another wild card race, but Harvick will be predictably strong at Kentucky Speedway.
