When you are racing for $10,000 and bragging rights anything can happen, and it did Thursday night during the final lap of the Eighth Annual Denny Hamlin Short Track Challenge.

Danville, Virginia native, Timothy Peters avoided a spinning Lee Pulliam on the final lap of the green-white-checkered finish to claim his first win in the charity race at his home track. Peters started second to Pulliam on Lap 208 and the two raced side-by-side for the lead at the white flag. Denny Hamlin started in the top 10 but had his night end early, after suffering a valve train problem that sent him to the garage on Lap 69.

Marc-Antoine Camirand will pilot the No. 99 car for White Motorsports for the 2015 season of the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series (NCATS).

Camirand and White Motorsports first worked together in the Grand Prix of Trois-Rivières (GP3R) in 2013, then again in 2014 when Camirand stole the pole. After starting in Karts in 1991, Camirand raced in F1600, F2000, Fran-AM and various semi-professional series in Canada and the U.S., winning several titles in the process. He holds the record for most wins in GP3R with 14 to his credit. He will compete for the Jostens Rookie Of The Year Award.

Joey Gase will take some pride in the fact that he out-qualified Jimmie Johnson for the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway. He posted a speed of 126.541 mph in the first round of time trials and nudged the No. 48 for the 35th-position on the grid.

Driving the No. 32, Gase would have been able to fall back on a provisional if needed, but his timed lap improves his handicap slightly. Gase will only be useful to players who need a bargain basement selection to make the top of their roster work.
Apr 24 - 11:10 PM

Matt Kenseth posted the fourth quickest time in final practice for the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway with a speed of 122.100 mph from laps two through 11.

Kenseth backed up his strong practice with an equally impressive lap in time trials. He rolls off the grid eighth and should challenge for a top-10. With the right breaks, he could even win a second consecutive event one week after snapping a 51-race winless streak.
Apr 24 - 11:09 PM

Jeff Gordon seemed to struggle for most of the afternoon at Richmond, but he qualified among the top 12. He posted only the 20th-quickest 10-lap average in the morning session and was 17th-quick in final practice. He will line up 11th.

Gordon is showing a knack for improving short track races progress. Last week he was equally unimpressive at Bristol Motor Speedway before finishing third, which means he cannot be discounted at Richmond International Raceway.
Apr 24 - 11:08 PM

Kurt Busch qualified third for Saturday night’s Toyota Owners 400, which is his second-best qualification effort ever at Richmond International Raceway.

Busch qualified Barney Visser’s No. 78 second in the fall 2013 race. That was a great omen for the beleaguered driver at the time because he also finished second in the race. His 10-lap averages this week were not strong enough to make him a favorite for a top-five, but fantasy owners do not want to count against him.
Apr 24 - 11:07 PM

Chase Elliott advanced to the second round of qualification easily and will start 16th in his second career Cup attempt at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday.

Richmond is an easier track to run than Martinsville and Elliott has plenty of experience on the 0.750-miler. He will finish much better Saturday night than three weeks ago at Martinsville and that will improve his confidence level. If he fits a niche, he will be a great fantasy value.

Sprint Cup Series regular Denny Hamlin (No. 11 Toyota Camry) won the ToyotaCare 250, his 12th victory in 147 NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) races.

This is the No. 20 Hisense Toyota driver's first NXS victory and third top-10 finish in 2015. It is his third victory and 10th top-10 finish in 14 NXS races at Richmond International Raceway. This victory was the 100th win for Toyota in the NXS. Hamlin started on the pole and led 248 laps of the 250 lap event.
Apr 24 - 10:46 PM

Kyle Larson advanced to the round of 12 for the seventh time in eight races this season. The only driver who has more top-12 starts is Keselowski who has been perfect in that regard.

Larson often uses these strong starts as a catalyst to finish well and it is only a matter of time before the No. 42 begins recording top-10 finishes in more than 50 percent of his starts. Climb on the bandwagon now.
Apr 24 - 10:31 PM

Danica Patrick struggled most of Friday afternoon on a track type that has been kind to her in the last two starts. She earned back-to-back top-10s at Martinsville Speedway and Bristol Motor Speedway, but will need to adjust her Chevrolet all night to collect a third straight triumph at Richmond International Raceway.

This was a similar pattern to what she faced at Bristol, but the team got the car working right at the end of the race. Attrition among some key players in the Food City 500 did not hurt either, and she cannot count on that at Richmond.
Apr 24 - 10:30 PM

David Gilliland recorded the 17th-quickest 10-lap average in the first practice session for the Toyota Owners 400. He went the wrong way in the afternoon and logged the slowest average time among all drivers.

Gilliland qualified 30th for the Toyota Owners 400 and remains a questionable value for anyone other than diehard fans or players with him already on their roster. Look for a result in the mid- to high-20s.
Apr 24 - 10:30 PM

Jimmie Johnson simply could not find speed when he needed it and will roll off the grid 36th on Saturday night at Richmond International Raceway. This is the third time this season that he failed to advance to the round of 24.

Before fantasy players write him off, however, they should note that his other two poor qualification efforts ended in a second at Bristol Motor Speedway after starting 28th and a victory at Atlanta from 37th.
Apr 24 - 10:29 PM

Trevor Bayne recorded the 13th-quickest 10-lap average in the final practice for the Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway among 32 drivers who ran that long.

That would equate to a top-20 finish if he can sustain the speed, but Bayne lost some momentum in qualification with a 34th-place effort. Considering the struggles at Roush-Fenway Racing, starting him is risky.
Apr 24 - 10:28 PM

Denny Hamlin will line up on the outside of the front row next to Joey Logano for the Toyota Owners 400. It is his first front row start at Richmond since he won the pole for the 2008 Crown Royal 400.

Hamlin has two front row starts to his credit and they are both poles. His best result after starting that well was 15th in his rookie season of 2006, but on the heels of a strong Martinsville run three weeks ago he has the confidence to win a second straight Virginia race.
Apr 24 - 6:48 PM

Joey Logano posted a lap of 127.071 mph and won the pole for Saturday night’s Toyota Owners 400 at Richmond International Raceway. This is his 11th career pole.

This is Logano’s third pole of the season - the most of all drivers - and that has been a precursor to strong runs all year. He led the field to green at Atlanta in March before finishing fourth and came home third at Martinsville after posting the fastest lap in time trials on that flat bullring.
