(Around lap 85), Reed was tagged from behind, sending him spinning into the safer barrier, destroying the right-front. He pitted to repair damage, causing him to lose two laps. As the field saw several cautions before the eventual green-white-checkered, Reed maintained the 31st position, which is where he would finish at the end of the 300-mile race. Officially Tony Stewart finished sixth after starting 14th in the Geico 500 at Talladega SuperSpeedway, but Ty Dillon ran all of the practice, qualified the car, and ran most of the race. Stewart will be credited with the finish in the points and all fantasy games, however, since he started the No. 14 Chevrolet.

Notably, the only mistake made by this team all afternoon was by Stewart in the pits. He was too fast exiting during a green flag stop, which cost the No. 14 a lap to the leaders. He was given the Free Pass on the first caution of the day, made the driver change to Dillon, and allowed the part time driver plenty of time to make up for lost time.
