Date:

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is head and shoulders above the competition on restrictor-plate, superspeedways both in terms of average finishes, number of victories, top-fives, and top-10s. He will be the starter of choice for most players this week.

Junior has 10 victories on this track type in 64 starts and will be the best value if he scores a 26th top-five—but players looking for an early advantage may want to look elsewhere. Earnhardt will be on so many rosters that he will not allow players to differentiate their rosters, so they will neither gain nor lose ground on the competition by starting the No. 88.

In his new ride with HScott Motorsports, Clint Bowyer should be this year’s best dark horse for the Daytona 500. In 40 career starts on plate tracks, he has the second-best career average finish with a 15.05.

Equally impressive, Bowyer has been consistently strong of both restrictor-plate, superspeedways. He has an average finish of 14.9 at Talladega SuperSpeedway and 15.2 at Daytona International Speedway.
Feb 11 - 6:33 PM

Kevin Harvick has the third-best average finish on plate track among active, fulltime drivers with a 15.54 in 59 starts. One of the reasons for his solid average is because he has two wins at Daytona International Speedway and one at Talladega SuperSpeedway.

In addition, he has finished in the runner-up position five times on NASCAR’s biggest courses, so he deserves to anchor many fantasy players’ rosters.
Feb 11 - 6:32 PM

Kurt Busch has the fourth-best average finish on plate tracks with a 16.81, but that only tells half the story. He has amassed this amazing average starting 59 races, which makes him a more than solid plate racer.

For all that success, however, he has yet to win one of the restrictor-plate, superspeedway events. He has finished second three times and all of these solid runs came in the Great American Race; he was second in the 2003, 2005, and 2008 Daytona 500s.

Competed in nine NASCAR Camping World Truck Series events last year and earned his best finish, fourth, at Daytona. Had three NASCAR XFINITY Series starts in 2014 and finished 15th at Iowa Speedway for his best series’ finish.

Gracin Raz (No. 27 Montana Tech/Trinity Energy Ford) competed in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at Richmond last season and finished 34th due to car issues.

Finished fourth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West last season with one win, six top-five and 11 top-10 finishes.
Feb 11 - 2:59 PM

Ryan Preece (No. 31 Whelen Engineering Chevrolet) made his NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debut at Richmond last year and finished 14th after starting 35th.

He was the 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion. The NASCAR Next alum will compete full-time in the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2016.
Feb 11 - 2:58 PM

Justin Haley (No. 5 Braun Auto Chevrolet) finished 21st at New Smyrna (FL) Speedway last season.

He finished sixth in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East standings last year with six top fives and 10 top 10s. He won the 21 Means 21 Pole Award and led 94 of 101 laps before a flat tire took him out of contention at the K&N West finale at Phoenix.
Feb 11 - 2:57 PM

Noah Gragson (No. 55 AlertID/Colliers International Ford) finished 35th in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East standings last year with two top 10s in two starts.

Finished eighth at New York’s Watkins Glen International and 10th at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway. He finished runner-up in the K&N West with two wins, seven top-five and 11 top-10 finishes. He was the 2015 Sunoco Rookie of the Year in the K&N West.
Feb 11 - 2:50 PM

Kaz Grala (No. 3 Kiklos Olive Oil Toyota), in his two NASCAR K&N Pro Series East starts at New Smyrna (FL) Speedway, he’s finished 10th (2014) and 18th (2015).

He finished seventh in the series standings last year with four top-five and nine top-10 finishes. He’s collected his best career finishes, second, at Dover and VIRginia International Raceway.
Feb 11 - 2:49 PM

Todd Gilliland (No. 16 NAPA Auto Parts Toyota) will be making his NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debut at New Smyrna (FL) Speedway.

Became the youngest race winner in K&N West history in his series debut at Phoenix at 15 years, five months, 28 days. Will compete full-time in the K&N West with select K&N East races in 2016 with Bill McAnally Racing.
Feb 11 - 2:48 PM

Ruben Garcia Jr. (No. 6 Special Smiles Toyota) will be making his NASCAR K&N Pro Series East debut at New Smyrna (FL) Speedway.

Feb 11 - 2:47 PM

Sarah Cornett-Ching (No. 02 RACE 101 Chevrolet) finished 37th in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East standings last year after three starts.

Collected her best finish in the series, 20th, at Bristol, another half-mile oval like New Smyrna (FL) Speedway.
Feb 11 - 2:46 PM

Jimmie Johnson has been an all-or-nothing racer on plate tracks during his career. With 18 top-fives in his career, he is second only to Dale Earnhardt Jr. in that regard, but his career average finish of 16.93 puts him sixth on that chart.

Johnson is a much more predictable value on unrestricted, intermediate speedways, so fantasy owners do not need to worry about starting him in the Daytona 500. If he makes his way onto the roster, however, and develops some momentum players may want to hold him this May at Talladega SuperSpeedway.
Feb 11 - 2:15 PM

Matt Kenseth has the eighth-best average finish among fulltime, active drivers on this track type but he is heading in the wrong direction. His last four starts on restrictor-plate, superspeedways ended outside the top 20.

In fact, since joining Joe Gibbs Racing in 2013, he has scored only three top-10s in 12 starts and probably should be avoided in the Daytona 500. His one shining moment came in the 2014 Chase when he finished second in the Geico 500 at Talladega SuperSpeedway
