Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will concentrate on finishing better than 20th this week at Atlanta. In 22 previous starts on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks, he has finished worse than he qualified in nearly 75 percent of his attempts.

In his two previous Atlanta starts, he has fared better. Stenhouse won the pole in 2013 and finished a more-than-respectable 16th. Last year, he improved from 26th to 20th and that grid position might have been a more likely result in qualification this week if not for the large number of cars that failed to clear inspection.

Danica Patrick returns to the track where she recorded a career-best finish last year. After starting 27th in the Oral-B USA 500, she fell off the lead lap for a time, but managed to get her car right in the closing laps and finish sixth.

This week, she earned her best qualification position at Atlanta and rolls off the grid 18th. If she can stay on the lead lap all day and keep up on the adjustments, it is not out of the question that she might earn her first career top-five.

Austin Dillon qualified 15th for the Folds of Honor Quik Trip 500. It is the second consecutive Atlanta Cup race for which he qualified among the top 15.

In his third start on this track, Dillon is still seeking his first lead lap finish. He was 19th in 2013 and 24th last year, but one lap off the pace each time. With track position, he could achieve that goal if the cautions wave at the right time

When Tony Stewart failed to clear inspection Friday afternoon, it forced him to take a position based on owner points. He will roll off the grid 39th, which is the worst he has ever started at Atlanta.

His next-worst start came in 2001 when he rolled off the grid 35th. He blew an engine five laps from the end and finished 27th. Stewart also finished second once after starting 32nd, so all hope is not lost.

Aric Almirola recorded two top-10s on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks last year with Richard Petty Motorsports.

Almirola’s best finish came at Kansas in the 5-Hour Energy 400, but he also finished in the top 10 at Atlanta with a ninth. He is far from a sure thing, however, because Almirola finished outside the top 20 in his last four attempts on this track type.

Matt Crafton has the best 10-lap consecutive average speed in final practice for the Camping World Truck Series Hyundai Construction Equipment 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The average speed of 176.268 mph in the No. 88 Toyota Tundra was best of the eight trucks that ran 10 consecutive laps on the track for this session. No. 05 John Wes Townley, No. 19 Tyler Reddick, No. 29 Brad Keselowski, No. 23 Spencer Gallagher, No. 11 Ben Kennedy, No. 86 Brandon Brown and No. 08 Korbin Forrister are the rest on this list.

Sprint Cup regular Brad Keselowski is fastest in Final Practice for the Camping World Truck Series Hyundai Construction Equipment 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

At 178.695 mph in the No. 29 Cooper Standard Ford F-150, he was the fastest of the 31 trucks out on the track for the final practice. No. 4 Erik Jones, No. 13 Cameron Hayley, No. 51 Daniel Suarez and No. 05 John Wes Townley are the rest of the top five on the speed chart. No. 6 Norm Benning was the slowest.

Dozens of drivers failed NASCAR inspection in their first attempt and were forced to go around and try again. Thirteen of them failed to make a time trial lap, including such big names as Jimmie Johnson, Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart, and Jeff Gordon.

Regan Smith, Jeb Burton, Cole Whitt, Landon Cassill, and Alex Bowman were also affected, but they had enough owner points from last year to make the show. The same was not true for Reed Sorenson, Mike Wallace, Matt DiBenedetto, and Michael Annett. They are the four drivers who will miss the show.

One week after winning the Daytona 500, Joey Logano posted a lap of 194.683 mph and earned his first career pole at Atlanta. His speed was more than a tenth of a second faster than second-place Kevin Harvick.

Logano’s best start prior to today was ninth in 2012. He finished 18th that weekend. In 2013 he finished second after posting his second-best time trial effort of 11th. Logano has proven that momentum is a powerful force in NASCAR.

Kyle Larson posted the fastest single lap in Friday’s practice session. His top speed was 192.989 mph. He also had the fastest 10-lap average at 185.537 mph among three drivers who ran long runs.

Larson finished in the top 10 on this track last year as a rookie. He should be considered a favorite to back that up with another top-10.

Sprint Cup regular Joey Logano tops the speed chart in the Final Practice session for the XFINITY Series Hisense 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He also led the first practice earlier today.

The No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang driver ran a fast lap of 182.105 mph. No. 62 Brendan Gaughan, No. 33 Paul Menard, No. 18 Daniel Suarez and No. 9 Chase Elliott round out the top five of the 40 cars out on the track. The No. 89 Chevrolet driven by Morgan Shepherd was the slowest in the final practice session. Logano also had a 10-lap average speed of 179.306 mph. This was the best of the 13 cars running at least 10 consecutive laps in this session.

A trailer with the NASCAR Sprint Cup car Travis Kvapil was to drive this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway was stolen overnight, Team Xtreme owner John Cohen confirmed. He said the team does not have another car and will withdraw from this weekend’s event at Atlanta. Cohen said the team will be at Las Vegas Motor Speedway next weekend.

The black Ford pickup, white trailer (both with New Jersey license plates) and the No. 44 car were taken early Friday morning from outside the team’s hotel in Morrow, Ga.

Sprint Cup Series regular Joey Logano leads the first practice session for the XFINITY Series Hisense 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

The lap of 182.807 mph in the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang was best of the 27 cars out on the track for this session. No. 3 Ty Dillon, No. 88 Kevin Harvick, No. 20 Matt Kenseth and No. 54 Erik Jones are the rest of the top five on the speed chart. Joey Gase in the No. 52 Chevrolet Camaro was the slowest.

AJ Allmendinger hopes to pick up where he left off last year. His last three attempts on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks ended in a sweep of the top 15 and lead lap finishes.

Once Allmendinger won the road course race at Watkins Glen, his confidence seemed to improve and that had an impact on other track types as well. Allmendinger will almost certainly fly under the radar screen for most players, which could make him extremely useful.
Feb 27 - 9:57 AM

In 10 previous attempts on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks in the Cup series, Michael Annett has finished better than he started eight times.

At Atlanta last year he advanced from 25th to 21st, but his last attempt at Texas showed even better improvement. He qualified 33rd and finished 22. This makes him a decent value in contests that award place differential points like the Fantasy Live game.
Feb 27 - 9:52 AM

Matt DiBenedetto will share driving duties in the No. 83 with Johnny Sauter and that responsibility starts this week. Making the show at Atlanta will be a huge task because the Young Gun has qualified for only 14 similarly-configured, 1.5-mile track races in the XFINITY series.

Most of these starts ended early behind the wall, but DiBenedetto has been running at the end of five races. His best finish was a 16th in Curtis Key’s No. 40 at Kansas last October.
Feb 27 - 9:47 AM

When David Gilliland rolls off the grid for the Folds of Honor Quik Trip 500, it will be his 50th start on one of NASCAR’s similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks with Front Row Motorsports.

Gilliland has not yet cracked the top 15 with this team on this track type, but his best effort was a 17th in the 2013 AdvoCare 500. With a little luck, he could find that elusive result on a course that usually rewards horsepower above other traits.
Feb 27 - 9:41 AM

Justin Allgaier progressively improved last year on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks and he looks to continue in 2015. It took nine attempts before he finished on the lead lap, but once he did he went the full distance at both Charlotte and Texas.

Allgaier was a good fantasy value on both tracks with a 15th in the Bank of America 500 and a 20th in the AAA Texas 500. He should be considered one of the top dark horses this week.

Sprint Cup regular Brad Keselowski will be making his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series of the 2015 season in Saturday's Hyundai Construction Equipment 200 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He will pilot the No. 29 Cooper Standard Ford F-150.

Keselowski NCWTS notes: Has three previous NCWTS starts at Atlanta where he's completed 99.24 percent of total possible laps (392 of 395). Claimed his first NCWTS victory at Bristol Motor Speedway last August in his most recent series start. Owns nine top five and 14 top 10 finishes in 62 career NCWTS starts.-Brad Keselowski Racing

Tyler Reddick, driver of the No. 19 Draw-Title/Reese Towpower Ford F-150 will be making his first Atlanta Motor Speedway NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start Saturday afternoon in the Hyundai Construction Equipment 200.

Reddick's Notes: Grabbed his first NCWTS victory last week at Daytona by .173 seconds over the second place truck. First victory came in his 18th career start, third on a restrictor plate track. Leads the NCWTS championship standings by six points - first time in his career he has been the points leader. Has one pole, two top fives and six top 10 finishes in 11 career superspeedway starts - best finish is fourth place (twice).-Brad Keselowski Racing
