He will be pilot chassis No. 137 at CTMP on Sunday, Aug. 29. After posting a 20th-place finish in last weekend's event at Bristol, Eric McClure is eager to get back behind the wheel of the No. 14 Camry for this weekend's Great Clips 300 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

This weekend will mark the 35-year-old's seventh start at the 1.5-mile track. In six starts, McClure has been running at the end of four events and he earned his best finish (21st) during the 2012 season. The Hefty(R)/Reynolds Wrap(R) team will utilize chassis No. 677 this weekend. This chassis was last used at Indianapolis Motor Speedway where the team posted a 36th-place finish as a result of a power steering pump failure.-TriStar Motorsports NC

Mike Bliss will make his ninth NASCAR Nationwide Series start at Atlanta Motor Speedway this weekend.

With over 190 starts at speedways ranging from one to two miles in length, Bliss has over 45 top 10 finishes at these tracks. After his 17th place finish last weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, Bliss is looking to return to the 1.54-mile speedway in Atlanta for the Great Clips 300. Crew Chief Paul Clapprood will unload chassis No. 301 for the Great Clips 300. This chassis was last run at Indianapolis Motor Speedway where Bliss finished 22nd.-TriStar Motorsports NC

The NASCAR Nationwide Series will make its first and only stop of the season at Atlanta Motor Speedway with the running of the Great Clips 300 Saturday night.

Chase Elliott is from Dawsonville, Ga., just 80 miles north of the speedway. His sponsor, NAPA AUTO PARTS, is headquartered just 40 miles away in Atlanta. Together, it’s a homecoming for just about everyone involved with the No. 9 NAPA Racing team, which enters the weekend as the series points leader. Elliott will spend the week leading up to the race enjoying the company of friends and family.-JR Motorsports

Regan Smith has three top-10 efforts in the five events at 1.5-mile facilities in 2014, bringing his season-long tally to six top-five and 19 top-10 finishes.

The 7 team will unload chassis No. 893 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This will be the second time the team will have used this chassis. Smith previously drove it to a 10th-place finish earlier this year at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.-JR Motorsports

James Bickford, the 16-year-old driver of the Sunrise Ford Racing/Interstate Plastics Ford, is inching closer to the NASCAR K&N West Rookie of the Year title as the tour comes to Kern County Raceway Park for the Bakersfield 150 on Saturday.

He leads his closest challenger, Rich DeLong III, by 25 points with only four races remaining. That is a comfortable margin considering the formula for awarding rookie points in the series. Currently Bickford sits fifth in overall points with one win, five top-5's and seven top-10's in 10 starts during the 14-race season.-Performance PR Plus

Despite finishing seventh in the 5-hour Energy 400 at Kansas, Danica Patrick has shown only minor improvement on the similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks this year. Her five-race average on this course type to date is 23.0 compared to a 26.7 in 2013.

This is the type of track that Patrick enjoys and where she needs to show the most improvement. Once she begins finishing the in the top 20 with regularity, she could become a weekly threat.

One week after being a part of Roush-Fenway Racing’s sweep of the top 10 at Bristol, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. hopes to help them sweep the top 15 at Atlanta. That would be his first such finish, but he missed last year by only one position—finishing 16th.

RFR has been improving in recent weeks, and while it is too soon to say they are out of the woods, they could be expected to run well on a track that has been traditionally kind. Watch Stenhouse closely in practice and qualification.

Along with Michigan and Auto Club, Atlanta was one of three tracks on which Carl Edwards had almost-perfect records at the start of his career. His first 10 races in Georgia ended in three victories, another second-place finish, two thirds, and two sevenths.

His last six races on this track have ended in another pair of top-fives, but that is counterbalanced by three 30-something results. All of his poor performances came as the result of engine failure or crash damage, however, so he should be a good value if he stays out of trouble.
Aug 27 - 5:58 PM

So far in 2014, Dale Earnhardt Jr. has alternated one top-five on a similarly-configured, 1.5-mile track with a result outside the top 15 and if the pattern holds, he is due to finish poorly this week.

Atlanta has been contrary to that pattern in the past two years, however. He finished seventh in 2012 and eighth last year, while he has failed to crack the top five since 2008. This week could feature a good, but not great finish for the No. 88.
Aug 27 - 5:57 PM

In the past two seasons, David Gilliland has finished in the top 20 only twice in 15 similarly-configured, 1.5-mile track races. His best result was a 17th in last year’s Atlanta AdvoCare 500.

Gilliland hopes that lightning can strike twice and he came close to scoring another top-20 this spring at Texas. He finished 22nd in the Duck Commander 500, but should only be considered a dark horse to back that up in Atlanta.
Aug 27 - 5:21 PM

Martin Truex Jr. finished in the top five in his last two Atlanta attempts with Michael Waltrip Racing. The No. 78 team finished fourth last year with Kurt Busch behind the wheel and they both hope to keep that momentum alive.

Truex has not had the same level of success with his new team, however. Whether the lack of results is because of poor communication or bad luck, it is best to leave them in the garage and cheer from a distance this week.
