Ryan Blaney (No. 29 Ford F-150) is fastest in Happy Hour for the Camping World Truck Series 1-800 Car Cash Mudsummer Classic at Eldora Speedway.

At 87.869 mph, he was the fastest of the 34 trucks out on the track for the final practice. No. 35 Mason Mingus, No. 2 Austin Dillon, No. 30 Ron Hornaday Jr. and No. 3 Ty Dillon are the rest of the top five on the speed chart. No. 03 Michael Affarano was the slowest.

Erik Jones leads the first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series practice session at Eldora Speedway.

He ran a quick lap of 90.749 mph in the No. 51 Toyota Tundra. No. 35 Mason Mingus, No. 88 Matt Crafton, No. 19 Tyler Reddick and No. 32 Kyle Larson rounded out the top five of the 32 trucks practicing for the 1-800 Car Cash Mudsummer Classic. Jennifer Jo Cobb, in the No. 10 truck, was the slowest. Jones also had the fastest 10-lap average speed (77.068 mph) among the 25 trucks that ran 10 consecutive laps on the track for this session.

All has not been perfect for Trevor Bayne this year, but he has been consistent on unrestricted speedways. His four attempts in 2014 at Las Vegas, Texas, Charlotte, Michigan each ended in either a 19th- or 20th-place finish.

Notably, all three of his plate race attempts ended outside the top 30, but since dark horses abound on that track type fantasy owners could quickly compensate. Some players will note his recent bad run at Daytona, which could be a chance for astute owners to use him to differentiate their roster.

Conventional wisdom holds that flat tracks behave like road courses to some extent since drivers need to brake before entering the corners. Marcos Ambrose has long rejected that notion and his results at Indy are part of the reason why. His best effort there was a 16th earned last year.

Ambrose could hold a few surprises, however. Three of his last four results this year ended in top-15s. Notably his one dissenting result came last week on the flat New Hampshire Motor Speedway, but Ambrose could be a dark horse to score a top-15 if he practices and qualifies well.

Paul Menard’s 2011 Brickyard 400 victory stands alone among his Indy results. In seven starts on this track, that is his only top-10 to date.

Menard’s victory that year was aided by fuel mileage, but he had to be in a position to capitalize on the strategy. Three of his last four attempts on this track ended in the low teens, which makes him a provisionally strong value in games where he is priced correctly.

Before blowing an engine at Pocono and getting crashed at New Hampshire, Joey Logano had one of the best flat track records of the season with fourth-place finishes at Phoenix and Martinsville, as well as a victory at Richmond.

Before last week’s incident Logano had the second strongest car to his teammate Brad Keselowski so it should be easy to regain his place at the front of the pack. Momentum is a tricky force, however, and back-to-back 40th-place finishes on this track type could derail him. Logano should be a favorite to finish in the top five, but he should also be watch closely during the race for any signs of weakness that could impact his handicap next week at Pocono.

If his past flat track efforts this year are an indication, fantasy players should expect Reed Sorenson to finish somewhere in the 30s in the Crown Royal 400.

Four of Sorenson’s five flat track races ended in a narrow band from 31st at Phoenix to a pair of 34ths at Martinsville and Pocono. The only time he failed to finish in this range was because of a blown tire at Richmond. Sorenson is often overlooked in fantasy racing, but predictability is always welcome.

Finishing 38th at New Hampshire, Casey Mears suffered his worst flat track finish of the year. His previous four attempts on this track type ended in a 14th at Phoenix, 24th at Martinsville, 19th at Richmond, and 23rd at Pocono.

Mears’ record works out to a 20th-place average finish, which could make him a good choice for fantasy players if he fits into one of the last niches on their roster.

Ty Dillon made his second career Nationwide Series start at the famous 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway in the No. 51 WESCO Chevrolet Camaro on July 28, 2012.

In addition to this Saturday's Lilly Diabetes 250 at IMS, Dillon is scheduled to make a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start in the No. 3 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet Silverado at Eldora Speedway on Wednesday night.-Richard Childress Racing

In two NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at the famed 2.5-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Brian Scott has an average starting position of 13th and an average finish of eighth. His best performance was during last season's event as Scott lead in the closing laps of the race, finishing second.

In the second round of the Nationwide Insurance Dash-4-Cash program, Scott and his No. 2 RCR team captured the $100,000 bonus as the highest of the four qualified drivers with a sixth-place finish. Scott's win automatically transfer's him to the third round of the Dash-4-Cash running this weekend at Indianapolis.-Richard Childress Racing

Alex Tagliani (No. 18 EpiPen/Dicom Express Dodge) has a win, five poles, six top fives and an additional two top 10s in 20 career NASCAR Canadian Tire Series starts.

Best finish in eight career oval starts is fifth, recorded last time out at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway. Finished 24th in his only previous Autodrome St-Eustache start, which was the series’ inaugural 2008 event.-NCATS

Elliott Sadler and the No. 11 OneMain Financial team travel to Indianapolis, IN, this weekend to compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

This will be the third-annual Nationwide Series race at the historical track, with Sadler competing in all three. In addition, Sadler has 12 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at Indianapolis, with a pole award in 2005, two top-five and two top-10 finishes with 76 laps lead.-Drivers Choice Marketing

Kyle Larson has at least a dark horse’s chance to record his first Cup victory at Indy. With Juan Pablo Montoya behind the wheel of the No. 42 Chip Ganassi Racing ride they finished second in 2007 and Larson is coming off a solid top-five last week on another flat track in New Hampshire.

In recent seasons, Indianapolis Motor Speedway has played host to some dark horse victories. Paul Menard’s fuel mileage win in 2011 as well as Ryan Newman’s triumph last year were unexpected before those weekend activities commenced.
