Burt Myers got his first NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour win of 2014 Saturday night after a wild final lap of the Bayport Credit Union 150 at Langley Speedway.

Myers was running second to George Brunnhoelzl III on the final lap when the two made contact coming out of Turn 4. Myers crossed the line first as Brunnhoelzl bounced off the outside wall and spun across the track. After a video review of the incident, NASCAR officials upheld Myers win and Brunnhoelzl was scored in second. Championship points leader Andy Seuss finished third, followed by J.R. Bertuccio and Jason Myers.

Sprint Cup regular (No. 4 Chevrolet SS) Kevin Harvick wins the Great Clips 300, his 43rd victory in 312 NASCAR Nationwide Series races.

This is the No. 5 Chevrolet Camaro driver's third NNS victory and 11th top-10 finish in 2014. It is his third victory and 10th top-10 finish in 13 NNS races at Atlanta. The win was Harvick's second consecutive Nationwide Series victory at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Aug 30 - 11:50 PM

Denny Hamlin posted the third fastest single lap in final practice and he had the second quickest 10-lap average. His fastest lap of 187.114 mph was more than one mile per hour slower than Matt Kenseth’s top speed.

Hamlin has a good balance of speed and durability, but he does not have a very strong record on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks this year and qualified only 17th for the Oral-B USA 500.
Aug 30 - 8:38 PM

Joey Logano posted the second fastest lap and the fourth quickest time in final practice for the Oral-B USA 500. His single lap of 187.869 mph was 6/100ths of a second behind Kevin Harvick.

Logano will need to navigate traffic early after qualifying only 14th. He should be up to the task, however, because he started 11th last year and finished second.

One record wasn’t enough for Andrew Ranger Saturday at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, so he decided to make it two.

Ranger, from Roxton Pond, Quebec, captured the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 race with a fast lap of 83.261 seconds (106.321 mph) in the No. 27 Mopar/Exide Dodge. It was Ranger’s 15th career pole overall, which broke a tie for the series’ all-time record he previously shared with J.R. Fitzpatrick. It also extended Ranger’s mark for the most poles at CTMP to five.
Aug 30 - 8:14 PM

Ryan Preece backed up his fast time in afternoon practice to win his second consecutive Coors Light Pole Award at Langley Speedway for Saturday night's Bayport Credit Union 150.

Preece, who also started from the pole in the spring tour race in April at Langley, qualified with a time of 15.056 seconds (94.687 mph) for his fifth career pole in eight starts on the southern tour. Danny Bohn followed closely in second place with a time of 15.093 seconds (94.454 mph). Spring race winner George Brunnhoelzl III worked all afternoon to fix a fuel pump issue and qualified third (15.142/94.149). Jason Myers and points leader Seuss completed the top five.
Aug 30 - 8:07 PM

After posting the quickest 10-lap average in the second session, Jeff Gordon backed that up with another top speed in final practice. He posted a speed of 183.299 mph during his first 10 laps on the track and reportedly had the quickest five- and 15-lap averages as well.

Gordon was considered a favorite at the beginning of the week and he has done absolutely nothing to change a player’s mind. His 10-lap average in the second practice session was only 181.050 mph, which underscores how much speed the track picked up in late afternoon. He will start ninth on Sunday, which puts him in the sweet spot for winners in the past several years.
Aug 30 - 8:06 PM

NASCAR Canadian Tire Series regular (No. 18 EpiPen/Dicom Express Dodge) Alex Tagliani wins the Keystone Light Pole Award for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) Chevrolet Silverado 250 with a lap of 80.558 seconds, 109.889 mph.

That sets a new NCWTS qualifying record at the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. The previous record of 109.189 mph was set by James Buescher in 2013. This is the No. 19 Reese Towpower Ford F-150 driver's first pole in his very first NCWTS start. Gray Gaulding (second) posted his third top-10 start of 2014 in his first start at CTMP.
Aug 30 - 7:53 PM

Chase Elliott wins the Coors Light 21 Means 21 Pole Award for the Great Clips 300 Benefitting Feed The Children with a lap of 30.759 seconds, 180.240 mph.

This is his first pole in 24 NASCAR Nationwide Series races. It is the No. 9 Napa Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro driver's 18th top-10 start in 2014. Elliott becomes the youngest pole winner at Atlanta Motor Speedway (18 years, 9 months, 2 days). The previous record holder was Jeff Gordon (03/14/1992 - 20 years, 7 months, 10 days).
Aug 30 - 7:05 PM

Matt Kenseth posted the fastest single lap in final practice for the Oral-B USA 500. His top speed was 188.251 mph, which was recorded on his first lap on the track.

Harvick was only 29th-fastest earlier on Saturday, but he was 10th-quickest over a 10-lap average in that session, which put him in the top half of that chart. Atlanta is the type of track that rewards patience and that is one of Kenseth’s strong traits.
Aug 30 - 6:56 PM

Jamie McMurray has been steady in the last four races. He qualified eighth at Pocono and finished seventh. Since then he has not qualified worse than 18th or finished worse than eighth.

McMurray has managed to stay out of trouble in recent weeks, but he was not as lucky at the start of the season. If he had been, he might be in a points’ position similar to Matt Kenseth or Ryan Newman and not have to worry as much about winning one of the final two regular season races.
Aug 30 - 5:23 PM

Greg Pursley (No. 26 Ford) is at the top of the speed chart in the final practice leading to the K&NPS-West Bakersfield 150 at Kern County Raceway in Bakersfield, CA.

He put up a 98.285 mph lap in the final practice. No. 16 Brandon McReynolds, No. 17 David Mayhew, No. 6 James Bickford and No. 9 Dylan Lupton are the rest of the top five and No. 14 Rich DeLong III was the slowest of the 18 cars running in this final session.
Aug 30 - 5:15 PM

Greg Biffle will drive chassis RK-922 in the Oral-B USA 500 at Atlanta. This car was last raced at Indy where it finished 13th.

Biffle qualified 18th for Sunday night’s contest, which is his worst starting spot in four races. He started 19th at Indy and climbed to 13th, but one week later he overcame a 25th-place qualification effort to finish fifth at Pocono in a different chassis.
Aug 30 - 5:12 PM

David Mayhew leads the first practice for the K&NPS-West Bakersfield 150 at Kern County Raceway in Bakersfield, CA.

A lap of 96.738 mph in the No. 17 Chevrolet was the quickest of the 16 cars out on the track for the first practice session. No. 9 Dylan Lupton, No. 97 Jesse Little, No. 16 Brandon McReynolds and No. 26 Greg Pursley are the rest of the top five on the speed chart. No. 84 Rich DeLong III was the slowest.
Aug 30 - 5:11 PM

Kevin Harvick recorded the second-fastest single lap and the second-quickest 10-lap average in the second practice session for the Oral-B USA 500. His fastest lap was 188.328 mph and his average speed was 180.796 mph.

Harvick mentioned Jeff Gordon as his principal rival for the weekend and was nearly .75 miles per hour slower than the No. 24. Restarts, pit stops, and the pace of the race will equalize that discrepancy, however, and these two drivers should battle side-by-side.
Aug 30 - 5:01 PM

Andrew Ranger (No. 27 MOPAR/Exide Dodge) is at the top of the speed chart in the final practice leading to the Canadian Tire Series Clarington 200 at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.

The 106.223 mph lap was the best of the 30 cars out on the track. No. 84 J.R. Fitzpatrick, No. 47 L.P. Dumoulin, No. 17 D.J. Kennington and No. 76 Jeff Lapcevich are the rest of the top five and No. 77 Jocelyn Fecteau is the slowest in this final session. Ranger also led the final practice for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Chevrolet Silverado 250 earlier this afternoon driving the No. 53 RAM at CTMP.
Aug 30 - 4:59 PM

Jeff Gordon posted the quickest 10-lap average in the second practice for the Oral-B USA 500. His speed of 181.050 mph was posted during his first 10 laps on track.

Gordon also reportedly had the fastest five- and 15-lap averages, which makes him a challenger for the victory Sunday night if the race includes a long, green flag segment at the end.
Aug 30 - 4:45 PM

Marcos Ambrose will seek his third top-10 finish on an unrestricted oval this weekend in the Oral-B USA 500. His two previous strong runs came on the short tracks of Bristol and Martinsville in March.

Ambrose lost a good opportunity to challenge for a victory last week at Bristol. This week, he was fast in practice briefly before struggling in qualification and timing in at 32nd. There are simply too many reasons to leave him in the garage to make him an acceptable value for Atlanta
Aug 30 - 4:40 PM

Danica Patrick will race chassis No. 10-838 Sunday night in the Oral-B USA 500. This car was used at Texas, where it started 24th and finished 27th.

The chassis was also used at Pocono in June. Patrick cut a tire in that race and crashed before finishing 37th. The No. 10 has not been particularly strong this weekend and qualified only 27th.
Aug 30 - 4:20 PM

Matt Kenseth hopes to rebound after crashing at Michigan two weeks ago. In the most recent unrestricted, intermediate speedway race, he finished 38th after starting 18th.

Last week, Kenseth had a solid performance at Bristol with a third-place finish and he qualified fifth for Sunday’s race. Luck is an intangible that cannot be handicapped, so the driver of the No. 20 should be treated as a favorite for a top-10.
