Joey Logano cut a tire in turn one during the first practice session for the Camping World RV Sales 301 and slammed the wall. He will have to roll out a backup car.

The depth at Penske Racing is such, however, that this does not impact their fantasy outlook. Logano remains a good pick based on his 2014 short track record.

In the past two years, Paul Menard has scored only one top-10 each season on the short, flat tracks of New Hampshire, Phoenix, Martinsville, and Richmond. His best result was a fifth in last year’s Federated Auto Parts 400 on the three-quarter-mile Virginia short track.

If his pattern holds, Menard has already scored his single top-10 at Martinsville this year when he was 10th in the STP 500. That is also his only top-15 on this track type in the past six attempts and he must be classified as a longshot.

Eddie MacDonald will make his Cup debut this week in the No. 32 Frank Stoddard car, but he is no stranger to this track with more than 20 starts in various major stock car series.

MacDonald has victories in the American Canadian Tour and Grand National East series, but his best finish in the Nationwide or Truck series was a 30th in Trucks. The No. 32 has consistently finished in the 30s this year, so look for MacDonald to score a result in 35th- to 39th-place range.

Ryan Newman stumbled at Martinsville this spring, but four of his last five starts on flat tracks ended in top-10 finishes.

Newman finished 10th in last fall’s Phoenix AdvoCare 500k, followed that with a seventh at that same track this spring, and finished eighth at Richmond. Since none of those results are top-fives, however, he should be treated as a utility driver to fill out one’s roster after marquee drivers are selected.

German Quiroga (No. 77 Toyota Tundra) has the best 10-lap consecutive average speed in the first practice for the Camping World Truck Series American Ethanol 200 at Iowa Speedway.

His average of 132.892 mph was best of the 10 trucks that ran 10 consecutive laps on the track for this session. No. 19 Tyler Reddick (131.746 mph), No. 23 Spencer Gallagher (131.103 mph), No. 97 Jeff Choquette (131.001 mph) and No. 86 Brandon Brown (128.245 mph) are the rest of the top five on this list.

Darrell Wallace Jr. leads the first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series practice session at Iowa Speedway.

He ran a quick lap of 137.261 mph in the No. 54 Toyota Tundra. No. 88 Matt Crafton, No. 17 Timothy Peters, No. 51 Erik Jones and No. 00 Cole Custer rounded out the top five of the 36 trucks practicing for the American Ethanol 200. Caleb Roark, in the No. 0 truck, was the slowest.

Having one previous NCWTS start at Iowa Speedway, along with three NASCAR Nationwide Series starts, Tayler Malsam hopes his prior experience will help him as the No. 32 Outerwall Chevrolet makes its sixth start this season.

The team will unload a familiar chassis this weekend in Iowa. Driven to a top-10 finish by Malsam in the NCWTS return to Gateway Motorsports Park, TSM-231 was also driven to a top-10 finish by Ben Rhodes in his NCWTS debut at Martinsville Speedway this year.-Turner Scott Motorsports

The 0.875-mile oval Iowa Speedway is one of five tracks on the circuit where Ben Kennedy made a start in 2013, earning a top-15 finish in his Iowa debut.

In addition to one NCWTS event, Kennedy has made more than 760 laps at the Midwest track, having participated in five events in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East (NKNPSE) since 2011. In those five NKNPSE starts, Kennedy earned a best start of sixth and a best finish of ninth.-Turner Scott Motorsports

Bobby Santos (No. 44 Chevrolet) leads first practice for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour Sunoco 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The 130.950 mph lap was the quickest of the 31 cars out on the track for the practice session. No. 70 Andy Seuss, No. 88 Woody Pitkat, No. 4 Donny Lia and No. 15 Todd Szegedy are the rest of the top five on the speed chart. No. 31 Melissa Fifield was the slowest.
Jul 11 - 10:42 AM

Ron Hornaday Jr. has seven previous starts at the 0.875-mile tri-oval Iowa Speedway, with his best finish of second coming in the spring of 2012.

Hornaday has amassed three top fives and three top 10s at the track, leading 22 laps on his way to an average finish of 14.7.-Turner Scott Motorsports

JJ Yeley is set to make his third start on one of NASCAR Sprint Cup’s flat tracks this week. His previous best finish in 2014 was a 38th on the 2.5-mile Pocono Raceway.

In the Pocono 400 Yeley improved two positions over his effort in Richmond’s Toyota Owners 400. Steady improvement is encouraging, but it will take a while before fantasy players consider placing him on their roster.
Jul 11 - 8:45 AM

Jamie McMurray was one of 13 drivers who swept the top 15 at New Hampshire last year with a 12th in the Camping World RV Sales 301 and a fifth in the Sylvania 300.

His top-15 streak on this one-mile oval should put him on a few fantasy radar screens, but it bears noting that his best effort in the two previous seasons was a 20th. McMurray’s best short, flat track attempt this year was a 10th, however, and that came on the other one-mile flat track of Phoenix so he should be watched for signs of strength in practice.
Jul 11 - 8:44 AM

Morgan Shepherd will dust off his driving shoes this week and pilot the No. 33 Joe Falk entry.

The one-mile flat tracks are venues that Shepherd apparently loves. He qualified a Bob Keselowski entry for this race last year and made the show earlier in 2014 at Phoenix. He failed to finish in the top 40 in either event and cannot be viewed as fantasy relevant for the Camping World RV Sales 301.
Jul 11 - 8:42 AM

Todd Szegedy (No. 15 15-40 Connection Chevrolet) the 2003 NWMT champion has 18 wins, 10 poles and 113 top 10s in 182 career NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour starts.

This will be his second appearance of 2014 following a DNF in the last race at Riverhead. Has three wins (Sept. 2007, July 2011, Sept. 2013), a pole, 16 top 10s and an average finish of ninth in 23 career NWMT starts at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.-NWMT
Jul 10 - 9:26 PM

Matt Frahm has nine career Nationwide Series starts, two of which have been at his home-track New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

The Salem, New Hampshire native has an average starting position of 28.0 and an average finishing position of 25.5 at NHMS. Frahm's best finish came in 2012 when he qualified 21st and finished 25th. This will be Frahm's first race with TriStar.-TriStar Motorsports NC
