It was finish that left the fans on their feet for the final 25 laps and long-time observers of the NASCAR Pinty's Series calling it one of the best races in the series' 10-year history.

In the end of Friday night's CRS Express 300 at Autodrome Chaudiere in Quebec, it was 23-year-old Alex Labbe celebrating his first career win in front of his hometown crowd and 16-year-old Cayden Lapcevich with a second straight impressive runner-up finish. They ran side-by-side for the final 10 laps, swapping the lead by a nose at the line. Labbe took the point with three to go and only a slip-up in Turn 4 of the final lap prevented a last-lap bump-and-run attempt by Lapcevich. Final margin of victory was .331 seconds.

Ben Rhodes (#41 Alpha Energy Solutions Toyota Tundra) led the first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series practice session at Gateway Motorsports Park.

He ran a quick lap of 135.738 mph. #9 William Byron, #00 Cole Custer, #81 Ryan Truex and #21 Johnny Sauter round out the top five of the 30 trucks practicing for the Drivin’ for Linemen 200. Enrique Contreras in the #71 Chevrolet Silverado was the slowest.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. posted the fastest single lap in the final practice session for the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. His best lap was set at 95.298 mph.

Earnhardt has not qualified better than 15th since joining Hendrick Motorsports, but he scored back-to-back top-10 finishes in 2014/2015. If he starts up front this week, he should be considered a favorite to maintain that track position in race trim.

Paul Menard has been mostly solid on road courses in recent seasons with results of 17th or better in six of the past seven road course races. Five of those efforts ended in top-15s and one was a top-five.

Menard’s career-best Cup finish came on this track in 2014. He qualified ninth and finished fifth. A more likely result will be in the low-teens, so fantasy owners should plan accordingly.

Kyle Busch hit a jackrabbit during final practice for the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. He damaged his car, but it is not significant enough to be critical; unfortunately the same thing cannot be said for the jackrabbit.

Busch posted the second-fastest time through the first 30 minutes and a favorite to finish in the top 10.

Kyle Larson and Jamie McMurray topped the first practice session for the Toyota / Save Mart 350 at Sonoma Raceway. Kyle Larson posted the fastest lap of 95.141 mph with Jamie McMurray going 94.544 mph.

McMurray’s fastest lap was not without drama. He blocked Tony Stewart coming to the green on his fastest lap and got nudged sideways. Fans will recall Stewart’s famous run-in with Brian Vickers several years back that landed the No. 14 on the tire barrier and consider whether there will be further fallout in the race. Larson’s lap was exceptional and uneventful.

Michael McDowell has one of the five-best place differentials in 2016. With an average starting position of 31.25 and finish of 26.75 in 12 starts, he finished 4.5 spots better and those extra points are often very important to success in a fantasy league.

McDowell has finished worse than he started only three times this year. When he is behind the wheel, fantasy owners can be relatively confident that his grid position is only the start of his success in a race.

Six of Brian Scott’s last nine races this season have been marked by crash damage, but he managed to stay on track until the checkers waved in most of those events. Last week’s failure to finish in the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway was the first time this year he has parked early.

Scott has been trending down for some time, however. He finished on the same lap as the leaders only once on a non-restricted track this year and that was well back in March’s Auto Club 400.

Ryan Blaney has scored six top-10s in the first 15 races of 2016, which is a "batting" average of 0.400.

When he misses, Blaney is often still a good value. He has finished in the back half of the pack only four times and rarely costs fantasy owners many points. Equally important, he has finished better than he started eight times, which has added place-differential points in games that offer them.
Jun 24 - 4:52 PM

Joey Logano has the sixth-best average finish this season with an 11.6 in the first 15 races. Unfortunately, his place-differential of 3.47 is among the five worst, which means his adjusted total would be closer to 15th.

Logano still deserves a lot of attention for his performance. If the team can figure out how to keep up with adjustments—like they did in last week’s FireKeepers Casino 400 victory at Michigan International Speedway—they will be back in championship form.

David Ragan has not had a lot of success in his transition to BK Racing, but he shows a slight trend in the right direction. His last two attempts ended on the same lap with the leaders.

Ragan finished 23rd at Pocono Raceway and was 22nd at Michigan International Speedway in the two most recent outings. In 15 races this year, he has managed to go the full distance only five times, which makes him a difficult mid-cap pick.
Jun 24 - 4:50 PM

Chris Buescher is behaving much more like a rookie should. His has steadily improved this year and showed promise in several recent races: most notably by scoring top-20s at Dover International Speedway and Michigan International Speedway.

Buescher will deserve greater attention as the series heads to tracks for the second time in 2016. With track time under his belt, his confidence will grow and it will not be surprising to see him score a top-15 or even -10 on a driver’s track.
Jun 24 - 4:49 PM

Fantasy players looking for a good differentiator this week, might want to pay close attention to Aric Almirola. His last three road course attempts ended in top-20 results.

Almirola was 18th in 2014 at the Glen, 14th in last year’s Sonoma Raceway event, and 16th back at the Glen. His 2014 Toyota / Save Mart 350 attempt landed 23rd, which is close enough to mid-pack to keep him from costing very many points.

Among active series drivers, Matt Crafton has the most starts at Gateway Motorsports Park (12), has completed the most laps (1888), has led the most laps (60), has the most top-10 finishes (7), and has the most lead lap finishes (8).

Chase Status... Crafton is currently first in the 2016 NCWTS driver point standings after seven races this season, with an 11-point lead over second-place William Byron. As one of two drivers with multiple wins this season, the two-time NCWTS champion is all but guaranteed a spot in the eight driver chase which kicks off at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon on September 24.-ThorSport Racing
