Jimmie Johnson was one of the drivers who failed to clear inspection at Atlanta on Friday and was relegated to the 37th starting position. He is joined in the back of the pack by teammate Jeff Gordon, Matt Kenseth, Tony Stewart, and Regan Smith.

The next-worst qualification attempt for Johnson at Atlanta was a 21st in 2001; he finished 29th that afternoon. Fantasy owners need to remember there are a lot of opportunities to get into trouble in heavy traffic.

Martin Truex Jr. finished eighth in last week’s Daytona 500. He brings momentum with him to the track and hopes to capitalize at Atlanta.

Truex finished fourth and third in consecutive seasons on the Georgia track in 2012/2013 with Michael Waltrip Racing. He qualified the No. 78 sixth last year, but slipped to 23rd at the end. Those numbers show that he knows how to get to the front, but needs a little luck along the way
Feb 28 - 6:19 PM

Brendan Gaughan hopes that the third time will be the charm at Atlanta. He finished 33rd in the spring of 2004 and was 18th that fall. He would like to crack the top 15 in the No. 62 this week.

With the current level of competition in the Cup series, that is going to be a tall order. He qualified 31st and has several strong cars lined up behind him, which means even a top-30 might actually be a challenge.
Feb 28 - 6:18 PM

Brad Keselowski finished 25th or worse in his first two Atlanta starts. His next two attempts ended in results of sixth and third, and finally his latest two ended in DNFs and 30-something results.

Keselowski hopes he can continue that pattern because he is due to earn a top-10. He will roll of the grid 12th on Sunday and will not have far to go to crack that mark.
Feb 28 - 5:38 PM

When Matt Kenseth failed to clear inspection on Friday, it snapped a four-race streak of qualifying in the top 10 at Atlanta.

In those races, Kenseth scored three top-10 finishes and a 12th so he knows how to get around the track. He should move up quickly and that will be good in games that offer place differential points. Kenseth has finished on the lead lap at Atlanta in 15 consecutive races.
Feb 28 - 5:22 PM

Ryan Newman will be seeking his third straight Atlanta top-10 this week. He finished fifth in 2013 and was seventh in 2014.

Newman got the weekend off to a strong start with his seventh-place qualification run, but he was not quite a fast in practice. His top speed of 187.253 mph was only about 17th on the grid.
Feb 28 - 5:11 PM

Sprint Cup regular Kevin Harvick wins the Hisense 250, his 45th victory in 317 NASCAR XFINITY Series races.

This is the No. 88 Bad Boy Buggies Chevrolet Camaro driver's fourth victory and 11th top-10 finish in 14 NXS races at Atlanta Motor Speedway. This is also Harvick's third consecutive NXS victory at the Hampton, Georgia track. He led a race-high 101 laps of the 163 lap event.
Feb 28 - 4:34 PM

Denny Hamlin has three top-10s in his last four Atlanta races. Starting fourth this weekend, he would like to make that four-for-five.

Hamlin posted the fourth-fastest time in final practice and had the quickest 10-lap average so he has a good shot at doing so. He should be considered one of the favorites this week.
Feb 28 - 4:13 PM

Sam Hornish Jr. may be closing in on a top-10 finish at Atlanta. His last start on this track ended in an 11th with Roger Penske in 2012.

Hornish has a good chance to finish that well since he scored his career-best start on Friday. He rolls off the grid eighth this weekend and he was 15th in his last start at Atlanta.
Feb 28 - 4:07 PM

Sprint Cup regular Brad Keselowski wins the Keystone Light Pole Award for the Hyundai Construction Equipment 200 with a lap of 31.314 seconds, 177.045 mph.
