His first race of the 2017 season is this weekend in Fontana, CA, and the Bakersfield native will make his first laps in his new ride. Mears, a 14-year NASCAR veteran, last competed in the NXS in 2010. He has one win, 16 top-5 and 32 top-10 finishes in just 93 starts in the series. After leading the lone practice session for tonight's NAPA Auto Parts 150, Todd Gilliland backed the result up with the pole position during group qualifying at Kern County Raceway Park.

With an 18.210-second lap, the reigning NASCAR K&N Pro Series West champion scorched the field by beating second-place Chris Eggleston by 0.215 seconds. For the 16-year-old from Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, the 21 Means 21 Pole Award is his second straight at Kern County, his second straight of 2017 and his sixth in the last nine West Series races. Behind the familiar front row is Will Rodgers, who is hot off a career-high finish of fifth last week at Tucson Speedway, in third followed by Matt Levin and six-time series winner Michael Self the top five. With Derek Kraus in sixth, Julia Landauer, Blaine Perkins, David Mayhew and Nicole Behar completed the top-10 starters.

The two drivers of Furniture Row Racing’s No. 77 team hauler were uninjured when their tractor-trailer rig was involved in a hit-and-run accident just after midnight Thursday on their way to this week’s NASCAR Cup Series event at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif.

The incident occurred when a car carrying two occupants pulled off the shoulder and back onto the highway directly in front of the Furniture Row Racing hauler on Interstate 15 approximately 15 miles north of Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Truck drivers Travis Watts, who was at the wheel, and David Shano were uninjured. There was no damage to the trailer or its contents, including the No. 77 Toyota Camrys prepared for driver Erik Jones for this week’s event. However, the tractor sustained front-end damage and a replacement tractor has been rented from Rush Truck Centers of North Las Vegas.

Kyle Busch has recorded three victories at Auto Club Speedway with the most recent of these coming in 2014.

In fact, that 2014 win was the second of consecutive victories on this track. He also has one win on the similarly-configured Michigan International Speedway. Unfortunately, his most recent win at Auto Club was his last real success on a two-mile track. In seven races since then—most of which came at Michigan—he has finished 2th or worse five times.

Austin Dillon’s finishes on two-mile tracks have run the gamut from top-10s to 30th, but he has been mostly strong on them.

Dillon has a best of fourth at Michigan International Speedway in 2015 and another top-10 there in 2016. His best Auto Club Speedway finish is 11th in 2014. Most of his efforts on this track type have been in the teens, and he has an average of .667 in regard to top-20s.
Mar 23 - 1:18 AM

Landon Cassill has steadily improved his results in the past four years at Auto Club Speedway with a best of 16th last year.

Cassill finished 30th in 2013 with Joe Falk, had a pair of 25ths with Mike Hillman in 2014/2015, and then last year’s 16th with Front Row Motorsports. His competition for another top-20 will be much greater this week, but Cassill should be evaluated in practice.

Daniel Suarez showed gradual improvement in his first three Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races and then surged into the top 10 at Phoenix International Raceway. It will be important for him to run well at Auto Club Speedway.

Fantasy players need to trust their drivers. Great runs like the one he had a Phoenix are good for PR releases, but a solid top-20 in the Auto Club 400 will show a predictable pattern. Given the strength of Roush-Fenway Racing on this track in the past, it is a fair bet that the No. 19 will finish in the front half of the pack.
Mar 23 - 1:17 AM

Matt DiBenedetto was one of the most pleasant surprises at Auto Club Speedway last year. He finished 27th after starting 33rd and was running on the lead lap.

Unfortunately, he was not as productive on the other two-mile track. DiBenedetto went to Michigan International Speedway and finished in the low- to mid-30s in his next two efforts and was at least five laps off the pace each time.
