Ray Black, Jr. and the No. 07 ScubaLife Chevrolet Silverado team finished 25th on Saturday night at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Coming off a top-five finish in Daytona, the ScubaLife team from SS Green Light Racing appeared poised to have another great finish at Atlanta. However, with just 15 laps remaining in the event, Black started to feel a vibration in his truck. Not wanting to damage his equipment, Black brought the truck to pit road for the team to evaluate the problem. After changing four tires, the problem persisted and Black returned to pit road once more. Diagnosing an issue with the power steering, Black was able limp around to finish in the 25th position.-SSRacingOnline PR

Stewart-Haas Racing has named Regan Smith interim driver of its No. 41 Haas Automation Chevrolet SS for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race weekend March 6-8 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The race on Sunday will be Smith’s sixth Sprint Cup start at Las Vegas. His most recent Sprint Cup start at the 1.5-mile oval was on March 11, 2012 when he finished 15th. This will be his third race in the No. 41 car. He drove the Haas Automation Chevrolet to a 16th-place finish Feb. 22 in the season-opening Daytona 500 and a 17th-place finish last Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway.-True Speed Communication

By finishing 10th in the Folds of Honor Quik Trip 500 at Atlanta, Ryan Newman extended a top-15 streak on this track type to nine consecutive races. His last 13 attempts on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks have ended in results of 16th or better.

Only one of these was a top-five; he finished third at Kentucky. Consistency is often more important than raw power.
Mar 1 - 10:53 PM

Brad Keselowski had an up and down afternoon at Atlanta, but it ended on a high note. He took tires late in the event and drove up to ninth in the final standings.

On the heels of a third last fall at Texas, that was his second consecutive top-10 on a similarly-configured, 1.5-mile track. He won last year’s edition of the Kobalt 400 at Vegas and should be able to keep his streak alive.
Mar 1 - 10:49 PM

In a substitute roll for Brian Vickers this week, Moffitt more than acquitted himself. He finished eighth in the Quik Trip 500 after starting the event 22nd.

Moffitt used a little strategy to gain track position late in the race, but he had to hold off determined charges from the likes of Brad Keselowski, Ryan Newman, and Carl Edwards. This was his first lead lap finish and he could be risky when he is in the No. 66 later in the season.
Mar 1 - 10:45 PM

AJ Allmendinger scored his second top-10 since winning the Cheez-it 355 at the Glen. He finished ninth at Martinsville last fall before crossing under the checkers seventh this week.

While Allmendinger has missed the top spots, he has been consistent and finished on the lead lap eight times in the past 10 races. He will continue to be a good value so long as he fits a niche on a fantasy player’s roster.
Mar 1 - 10:41 PM

Martin Truex Jr. kept his strong start to the 2015 season alive. He finished sixth in the Folds of Honor Quik Trip 500 on the heels of an eighth in the Daytona 500.

Truex ended the 2014 season strong and several of those races came on similarly-configured, 1.5-mile tracks. Next week will be another test to see if this team can maintain their momentum on the 1.5-mile Las Vegas Motor Speedway and early indications are positive.
Mar 1 - 10:36 PM

Matt Kenseth made the decision to stay out on old tires with 15 laps remaining and the gamble paid off with a fifth-place finish. For most of the day, even tires with only a handful of laps fell off quickly and sent drivers dropping rapidly to the back.

Kenseth is one of the best at handling a car with used tires and he proved as much this week. Fifth is a far cry from victory, but it seems unlikely that the No. 20 team will go winless two seasons in a row.
Mar 1 - 6:43 PM

Joey Logano was the class of the field for more than 82 laps at the beginning of the Folds of Honor Quik Trip 500. After a couple of caution flags, the field improved but he remained the same. That cost the No. 22 a victory, but fantasy owners will be happy with points for fourth-place.

Along with last year’s champion Kevin Harvick, Logano is picking up where he left off at the end of 2014. This trend should have fantasy players thinking seriously about the impact of momentum on a driver even when it bridges the off-season.
