Brook Lopez says he's going to play his game and not worry about his problematic foot this season.

"I’m going to go about (playing) as normal," Lopez said. "I feel good. We’ve done everything we could to prevent any further incident, knock on wood, but I’m going to go out and play basketball the way I know how to play." Lopez will be a risk-reward draft pick in fantasy, and owners will have to pray he stays healthy if they draft him as their starting center.
Oct 1 - 11:02 PM

Bojan Bogdanovic worked with the first unit in Wednesday's practice.

Jarrett Jack looks like he'll be coming off the bench as a backup point guard, so Bogdanovicis competing with Alan Anderson and Andrei Kirilenko for the last starting spot. He also shot an amazing 59.7 percent on his shots within the arc in the Euroleague last season and has a very well-rounded game. Bojan is only a late-round flier unless he gets hot at camp, which could happen.
Oct 1 - 3:38 PM

Nets F Sergey Karasev (sore right foot) sat out Wednesday's practice.

This sounds like a precautionary absence, and coach Lionel Hollins has already given days of rest to Deron Williams, Kevin Garnett and Brook Lopez. There's too much competition at SF in Brooklyn to give Karasev a second thought in fantasy leagues.
Oct 1 - 12:52 PM

Andrei Kirilenko (tight lower back) sat out practice again on Wednesday.

He's likely to be out for at least a few more days, and if last season is an indication this back issue could become a persistent issue. The starting SF job is within Kirilenko's reach, but he'll need to get healthy to claim it.

Joe Johnson - G/F - Nets

Joe Johnson plans to improve his rebounding this season, in addition to getting to the FT line more often.

Johnson will earn heavy playing time as a starter, whether at SG or SF, and he's coming off a nice 2013-14 during which he returned mid-round value on a cumulative basis. Owners in need of a SG who can score and make 3-pointer should keep the Nets' veteran in mind on draft day.
Oct 1 - 12:44 PM

Jarrett Jack has been playing with the second unit during the Nets' first three days of training camp.

Jack may spend some time alongside Deron Williams during the course of games, but it doesn't appear coach Lionel Hollins is considering him as a starting SG. That likely means that Joe Johnson will play SG with either Andrei Kirilenko, Bojan Bogdanovic or Alan Anderson at SF, but this picture could change overnight as Hollins evaluates his team during the preseason.

Nets coach Lionel Hollins wants Brook Lopez to improve his defense this season.

"He wants me to take more charges," Lopez said. "Become a better pick-and-roll defender, crash the glass, I could go on and on." Hollins also said that while Lopez has the freedom to take open jumpers, he'd like to see him planted in the paint on most possessions. "I still want him to be where he’s supposed to be as a 7-footer," Hollins said. Lopez had reconstructive foot surgery last year, followed by ankle surgery in March, and the Nets are limiting him to one practice per day as a precaution.
Oct 1 - 12:26 PM

Nets coach Lionel Hollins wants Brook Lopez to post up and play on the low block, but Lopez also "has the freedom to shoot a jump shot."

The bottom line is that Lopez will be leaned on heavily for offense, and as long as he's healthy he should rack up impressive scoring numbers. Lopez's Average Draft Position is currently in the 24-25 range, but owners might be better served by taking a center with less injury risk, like Chris Bosh or Joakim Noah.
Sep 30 - 3:29 PM

Deron Williams (ankle) was rested as a precaution during Tuesday's practice.

Nets coach Lionel Hollins downplayed the off-day, but D-Will recently admitted that he's not 100 percent healthy after having two more ankle surgeries this summer. He should be ready to go for opening night, but his ongoing ankle woes underscore the risk of taking him as your No. 1 point guard in fantasy leagues.
Sep 30 - 2:25 PM

Kevin Garnett appears to be fired up for the new season after one of the most disappointing years of his career.

"This year, I’m coming in with a little more edge, a little more assertiveness," Garnett said Monday. "Kind of [reverting] back to how I came into this league and what I’ve created for myself. I’m being a lot more aggressive." We still don't know exactly what KG's role will be but if Brook Lopez is healthy, it would make sense for Garnett to start at power forward on most nights.
Sep 29 - 11:21 PM

Alan Anderson was working with the first unit in 5-on-5 drills on Monday.

He is in a position battle with rookie Bojan Bogdanovic, but coach Lionel Hollins may opt to go with Anderson for continuity purposes. Anderson is a capable catch-and-shoot guy and will help space the floor. Still, Bogdanovic is a little more alluring than Anderson for the mystery factor at the end of deeper fantasy drafts.
Sep 29 - 2:51 PM

Deron Williams responded to Kobe Bryant's 0-for-9 comments during a recent interview.

"If I'm 0-for-f******-9, I'm not shooting 20 more shots," said Williams. "Not going to happen. I'm a point guard. I'm going to find somebody else. Kobe Bryant, that's what he's supposed to do." Kobe had said he wouldn't stop shooting despite missing his first nine attempts, and that he felt Williams had lost his confidence. However, Williams apparently did not like the criticism. Williams recently said that he feels his ankles are still not at 100 percent, making him a risky late-early round selection in standard leagues.
Sep 28 - 1:14 PM

Andrei Kirilenko did not participate in Sunday's practice due to tightness in his lower back, and he expects to be sidelined for 7-10 days.

Kirilenko has really struggled with back spasms throughout his career, and it's not a good sign that the problem has already reemerged before the season has even begun. He's clearly not capable of playing big minutes anymore, and he's not going to be worth drafting in standard leagues.
Sep 28 - 11:29 AM

Lionel Hollins is not interested in installing any of the components of Jason Kidd's system.

"I wasn’t trying to watch what they did because it’s really not the same team and what I want to do is different from what they did in the past," Hollins said. "So, it wasn’t like I was trying to figure out what they did [last season]. And I had a vision of what this team could look like with the personnel we have." During his time in Memphis, Hollins ran a slowed-down, half-court offense that was orchestrated through the team's big men. So it's logical to assume he will run a similar system in Brooklyn that will feature a lot of Brook Lopez.
Sep 28 - 10:33 AM

Andrei Kirilenko ran with the starters at training camp on Saturday, according to Joe Johnson.

On Friday, coach Lionel Hollins said the starting job was expected to go to Bojan Bogdanovic or Alan Anderson, so we're not going to put too much stock into this report. Kirilenko isn't capable of playing big minutes and isn't worth drafting in standard leagues.
