Player News - Nets

The Nets have given a training-camp contract to C Hamady Ndiaye, who made 14 brief appearances with the Kings last season.

The 7'0" center from Senegal was drafted No. 56 overall in 2010 and he's struggled to make a mark in the NBA. He's expected to battle for Brooklyn's third-string center job, behind Brook Lopez and Mason Plumlee, but won't be a fantasy asset even if he makes the squad.

Deron Williams said on Monday that his ankles finally feel good.

"[Before the surgery], I was just walking around and my ankles would swell up," said Williams. He had surgery on both ankles and unlike last season he says he'll be able to practice in camp and play in the preseason. He could experience a nice bump in production if any of this holds up and we'll be watching him closely during the preseason to see if he has regained any of his old explosion.

Andrei Kirilenko said he doesn't care if he starts, but that he expects his minutes to be more consistent under new coach Lionel Hollins.

The Nets will need him to play a lot more than he did last year for their thin frontcourt, but as usual his health will dictate how much burn he can get. It should be noted that things between Kirilenko and outgoing coach Jason Kidd didn't appear to be peachy last season, which is probably what AK is getting at when referencing Hollins.
Sep 15 - 9:39 PM

Lionel Hollins said that Kevin Garnett will start at power forward for the 2014-15 season.

When Hollins was asked about KG starting, the coach responded: "There's nobody in the gym that I'd put in his place." That's nice to hear, but Garnett's days of fantasy relevancy are behind him. Garnett averaged just 6.5 points, and 6.6 rebounds through 20 minutes of action last season, and he's not going to worth drafting in most leagues.
Sep 15 - 6:27 PM

The Nets still have not received any indication from Kevin Garnett if he is going to play this season.

He's due $12 million this season and he's expected to return so this is probably just semantics. Regardless, he won't be worth drafting in most leagues.

Andray Blatche has officially been barred from playing on the Philippines national team in the 2014 Asian Games.

Blatche was allowed to play for the Philippines in the FIBA World Cup, but the rules of the Asian Games require a player to have three years of residency before representing a country on the court. He reportedly returned to the U.S. in early September, in the expectation that he'd negotiate a contract with the Heat, but so far there have been no reports of an agreement.
Sep 14 - 3:16 PM

Coach Lionel Hollins said he's "sure" he will play Jarrett Jack and Deron Williams together.

This isn't a surprise at all and Jack may get some run as the point guard with Deron off the ball. Jack hasn't been great in the past couple seasons on the whole, but he could get enough run with the Nets to produce low-end value in standard leagues.
Sep 13 - 11:20 AM

The Nets signed Jerome Jordan to a training camp deal.

The big man will have a tough time making the roster. Jordan played in 21 games with the Knicks in the 2011-12 season, but was in the Italian League last year.

Andrei Kirilenko's home in Salt Lake City, Utah was burglarized over the weekend.

He played with the Jazz for 10 years and his wife had previously called Salt Lake City "the safest place on Earth." Kirilenko will be back with the Nets next season and will play as many minutes as his body allows, which isn't much.

Bojan Bogdanovic's 27 points vs. France were not enough on Saturday, adding six boards, one assist, one steal, three 3-pointers and no turnovers.

Croatia only had two players in double figures and their offense was completely lost in the first half. Bogdanovic had himself a nice tournament, averaging 21.2 points, 4.2 boards, 1.3 assists and 2.2 triples on 50.0 percent from the field. He'll be in the rotation for the Nets this year, but he's not quite worthy of a late-round flier in deep leagues yet.
Sep 6 - 2:34 PM

Andray Blatche is traveling from Spain to Miami to negotiate on a contract.

Presumably, it's with the Heat with the two having mutual interest before the FIBA World Cup started. Miami would be a terrific landing spot for Blatche and he would likely get more playing time than he did in Brooklyn. That said, he's still going to have to prove he's capable of being consistent before fantasy owners in standard leagues can make a move on him.
Sep 5 - 9:47 AM

Andray Blatche finished the FIBA World Cup with averages of 21.2 points, 13.8 boards, 1.6 steals, 0.8 blocks and 1.2 triples in five games with the Philippines.

He currently leads the tournament in rebounds per game and ranked second in efficiency per game behind Gorgui Dieng. Blatche probably helped himself get a contract with an NBA team and should wind up on a roster in the next few weeks. He is unlikely to have much fantasy value, though.
Sep 5 - 9:07 AM

Bojan Bogdanovic scored 23 points to lead Croatia in their victory against Puerto Rico.

Bogdanovic has had a solid showing for Croatia during the World Cup, flashing signs of scoring prowess. His role with the Nets is still not clear heading into next season, however. He will face stiff competition at the forward spots in Brooklyn and should not be targeted in standard leagues.
Sep 4 - 2:27 PM

Brook Lopez (foot) said in a recent interview with NBA.com that his confidence level is "sky high right now."

Speaking with Lenn Robbins of BrooklynNets.com, Lopez said he's feeling better every day and is moving without any restrictions. While Lopez has gained a reputation for being injury-prone, he's still only 26 years old and fantasy owners who are willing to take a mid-round risk on him could be rewarded with a huge return on value if the Stanford alum can stay healthy.

Sep 4 - 12:16 PM

Andray Blatche scored a team-high 25 points with 14 boards, two assists, one steal, two blocks and two 3-pointers in Wednesday's loss to the Puerto Rico.

The Philippines won't be making a run with Blatche and are now 0-4. The "Filipino" forward is still looking for a deal and has some interest from the Heat and Raptors. Blatche will wind up on a team before training camp starts.
