Player News - Grizzlies

Mike Conley understands that his foot isn't going to get any better if he keeps playing, but he’s made the commitment to force himself to play through the pain as the Grizzlies make their postseason push.

"It’s a lot of sleepless nights, constantly doing rehab, constantly in a tub or constantly hooked up to some machine trying to fix my foot," Conley said. "It’s going to flare up, no matter what I do. It’s my new routine, my new reality right now. It’s what I have to do to get ready, and I’m happy doing it because I know I’m able to play. And whatever I have to do to play, I’m doing." Conley is one of the toughest guys in the league, and you wouldn't know he was injured based on the way he's been playing through Memphis' first-round series. He'll be in uniform for Game 3 on Saturday, and he's a quality fantasy asset in all formats.

Beno Udrih returned to action after leaving with an ankle injury on Wednesday and finished with 10 points, one rebound and one assist on 4-of-9 shooting.

Udrih caught fire in Game 1 and torched the Blazers for 20 points and a full stat line on 9-of-14 shooting, but it was a different story tonight. Courtney Lee, Tony Allen and Mike Conley all played reasonably well, so Udrih just wasn't able to get into a groove. The ankle injury didn't help his cause, but it looks like he avoided a serious injury. He'll probably have another big game at some point in the playoffs, but trying to figure out when it will happen, as long as the aforementioned teammates are healthy, will be next to impossible.
Apr 22 - 11:04 PM

Tony Allen hit just 2-of-4 shots in Wednesday's Game 2 win, but also had nine rebounds, a steal and three blocks on the night.

Allen didn't do much in Sunday's Game 1, but did have three steals to go along with his four points and three boards. He's back from a hamstring injury and should continue to get better as his health improves, and is a sneaky, cheaper option in daily leagues going forward. Zach Randolph added just 10 points and 10 rebounds, hitting just 5-of-16 shots tonight.
Apr 22 - 10:56 PM

Marc Gasol hit just 4-of-15 shots against the Blazers on Wednesday, but still finished with 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists, a steal and three blocks in the 97-82 win.

He's one of the best centers in the league and despite the poor shooting tonight, still rewarded his fantasy owners. He looks like a good bet to keep playing well, and should also continue on to Round 2 as the Grizzlies hold a 2-0 lead over the Blazers in Round 1.
Apr 22 - 10:54 PM

Mike Conley, playing through a foot and wrist injury, and Courtney Lee combined to hit 14-of-22 shots and four 3-pointers to each score 18 points in Wednesday's Game 2 win over the Blazers.

Conley added six assists and Lee had three steals in the win. Conley is banged up, but playing pretty well despite the injuries, while this is the first time in four games that Lee scored more than nine points. We don't really trust Lee going forward, but as long as it's clear that Conley will play in Games 3 and 4, he's a solid point guard option in all fantasy formats.
Apr 22 - 10:51 PM

Beno Udrih went to the locker room in the second quarter on Wednesday.

He hobbled back to the locker room under is own power with what looked like an ankle sprain. He could be getting it re-taped or he could be out. If he is out, Nick Calathes will be the second string point guard.
Apr 22 - 8:50 PM

Tony Allen will start against the Blazers on Wednesday and Jeff Green will come off the bench.

This was the plan all along for the Grizzlies. Green is going to anchor the second unit with his offense, so he'll still have a chance to put up a nice line. Allen will continue to get his buckets in transition while causing problems for the Blazers on defense.
Apr 22 - 7:55 PM

Tony Allen (hamstring) will play against the Blazers in Game 2.

He did play on Sunday and was able to give the Grizzlies 25 minutes. Allen will likely see a similar amount of playing time as the Grizzlies look to lock down the wings and win with defense.
Apr 22 - 6:28 PM

Mike Conley (foot, wrist) will play against the Blazers on Wednesday.

He has been expected to play since Game 1, but Conley is not even close to 100 percent. He has problems with both feet and he may also need wrist surgery in the offseason. Even though he gets a favorable matchup, fantasy owners can't count on him right now in DFS.
Apr 22 - 6:27 PM

Mike Conley (foot) is probable for Game 2 on Wednesday, though he'll reportedly need offseason surgery to repair damaged ligaments in his wrist.

This is the first we've heard about wrist surgery and it makes Conley's play in Game 1 even more impressive -- his foot is nowhere near 100 percent and he's dealing with myriad nagging injuries. There's no chance that he'll sit out Game 2 but we'll confirm his status once he's officially cleared to start.
Apr 21 - 9:26 PM

Tony Allen (hamstring) is listed as probable for Game 2 on Wednesday.

Allen played well in his return to action on Sunday, contributing four points, three boards, two assists, three steals and one block in 25 minutes. He also managed to avoid any setbacks and should fill a similar role as the Grizzlies look to take a decisive 2-0 series lead.
Apr 21 - 9:23 PM

Mike Conley (foot) admitted that it felt like a golf ball was at the bottom of his shoe in the Game 1 victory over the Blazers.

Conley scored 16 points in 24 minutes on 6-of-11 shooting, but he's nowhere near 100 percent healthy. Despite a successful Game 1 effort, we simply can't be expecting the usual Mike Conley as he deal with this injury. Beno Udrih will be a very important player for Memphis in the postseason.
Apr 20 - 10:21 AM

Jeff Green (back) shot only 3-of-11 from the field vs. the Blazers, but he made 5-of-6 free throws to finish with 11 points, six rebounds, one assist and two blocks.

Green also played 28 minutes without any turnovers and he had a fantastic touch-pass which you can check out via the link below. He didn't even attempt a 3-point shot tonight and Memphis will need him to score with greater efficiency as the playoffs proceed, but a lock-down defensive performance carried them on Sunday.
Apr 19 - 10:53 PM

Mike Conley (sprained right foot) scored 16 points in only 24 minutes of action vs. the Blazers, making 6-of-11 field goals and 4-of-5 free throws with one rebound, one assist and one steal.

He's been having trouble walking and was told he'd need 4-6 weeks to fully recover, but he didn't seem limited while using change-of-speed dribbles to befuddle the Blazers' defense. Conley was even wearing a shoe one size bigger on his right foot to allow for extra padding but all signs point to him starting without a minute-limit on Wednesday.
Apr 19 - 10:53 PM

Tony Allen (hamstring) played through pain on Sunday, finishing a lopsided home victory with four points on 2-of-3 shooting, three rebounds, two assists, three steals and one block in 25 minutes.

He hadn't played in three weeks so tonight's line was an encouraging return to form, especially since he remained on the court with the victory sealed in the fourth quarter. Allen is worth a look if you're targeting steals in a fantasy-playoffs league, but that's about it.
