Player News - Grizzlies

Date: Team: Pos:

The Grizzlies and Mike Conley have agreed in principle to a five-year, $153 million deal.

ESPN's Marc Stein adds that the two parties are still working on details, but it's the richest contract in the history of the NBA. Conley is going to be 29 years old to start his deal, so the fourth and fifth years will be past his prime. His games-played have dropped in each of the last three seasons, with a drop in scoring output for the last two. For fantasy, the drop in overall productivity knocks him out of the early rounds in standard leagues.
Jul 1 - 6:57 PM

The Grizzlies will offer unrestricted free agent Mike Conley a five-year max offer, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com.

That would be a whopping $153 million over five years for Conley. He's easily the top point guard in this free agent class and there was almost no doubt he could command a max deal. The Grizzlies added Chandler Parsons to the fold to help the Grizzlies change their identity a bit. Conley fell off a tad with Dave Joerger compared to Lionel Hollins, so maybe he can bounce back with coach David Fizdale. Conley will be 29 in October.

Unrestricted free agent Chandler Parsons has agreed to a four-year, $94 million max deal with the Grizzlies.

The Blazers offered him the max on Friday morning, so the Grizzlies knew where they stood and made the deal. This deal should also help add Mike Conley with Memphis being in an "ultra-strong position," per ESPN. Parsons one of the most efficient players after the break last year and should have more shots going his way. After the break last year, only three of the 100 players with at least 30 minutes per game had a better true shooting percentage than Parsons (Stephen Curry, Hassan Whiteside and DeAndre Jordan). He does have some risk with his knee, but he'll be an early-round target in standard leagues as he heads into his age-28 season.
Jul 1 - 3:19 PM

According to ESPN's Marc Stein, Mike Conley is "lasered in" on Memphis and Dallas.

Chandler Parsons and Conley have discussed playing together in Memphis, but Parsons won't follow him to Dallas if that's where the guard ends up. Stein hinted that the Grizzlies are in an "ultra-strong position," so it sounds like the Grizzlies are the favorites to re-sign him.
Jul 1 - 11:15 AM

Chandler Parsons and Mike Conley have reportedly had multiple conversations about teaming up in Memphis.

It's worth noting that they haven't discussed playing together in Dallas, though Conley does have a meeting planned with the Mavs. Parsons has all but ruled himself out of a possible return to Dallas, and right now it sounds like the Blazers and Grizzlies are the favorites. Portland has already offered a four-year max and it sounds like the Grizzlies could do the same. In case you missed it, Parsons will meet with the Grizzlies on Friday afternoon.

Unrestricted free agent Chandler Parsons was "really impressed" with Portland's presentation, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.com.

Parsons has a meeting set up with the Grizzlies on Friday, but the Blazers should be considered as the favorites. They had owner Paul Allen, coach Terry Stotts, general manager Neil Olshey and Damian Lillard in the presentation to help show their vision for Parsons. He's coming off a big knee injury, but Parsons was fantastic after the break with averages of 17.6 points, 5.6 boards, 4.1 assists, 1.3 steals and 2.4 treys on a sterling 63.5 true shooting percentage.

Unrestricted free agent Chandler Parsons is meeting with the Blazers, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.

According to the report, the Blazers are going to offer a four-year max. General manager Neil Olshey, coach Terry Stotts, Damian Lillard and owner Paul Allen will be meeting with Parsons. He's done with Dallas and the Blazers seem to be the heavy favorite to add him. Signing Parsons would make it less likely the Blazers can re-sign Allen Crabbe and/or Moe Harkless.
Jul 1 - 12:42 AM

Unrestricted free agent Mike Conley is still pondering a meeting with the Rockets, according to ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

An earlier ESPN report today said the Rockets wouldn't get a meeting with the clear-cut No. 1 point guard option in free agency. For now, it looks like it's a two-horse race for Conley between the Grizzlies and Mavs.
Jun 30 - 8:34 PM

The Grizzlies are "very confident" they will retain unrestricted free agent Mike Conley, according to NBA.com's David Aldridge.

This confirms a previous report from Marc Stein of ESPN. The Grizzlies have been very confident the entire time, so this isn't a big surprise. The Mavericks are going to meet with Conley on July 1 and remain Memphis' primary competition.
Jun 30 - 7:52 PM

There is reportedly "no chance" that Chandler Parsons will return to the Mavs as an unrestricted free agent this offseason.

Out of all the reports of the teams that will be pursuing Parsons this offseason, not once has Dallas' franchise cropped up into the conversation, so it appears that Parsons' days as a Maverick are over. The Blazers will reportedly get a face-to-face sit down with Parsons, while the Knicks, Lakers and Grizzlies also remain in the running. Parsons' departure from Dallas will open up a ton of opportunity for Justin Anderson, assuming the Mavs don't bring in another small forward via free agency.

Portland will reportedly have a face-to-face meeting with Chandler Parsons when free agency opens up on July 1, and Damian Lillard will be in attendance.

The Lakers, Grizzlies and Knicks will also be vying for Parsons' services, and interestingly, the Mavericks have not been mentioned to be amongst the teams in pursuit of the fifth-year swingman. Parsons will be looking for a max-deal this summer, and it'll be interesting to see if a team out there will take the risk in granting him such an offer after he was forced to undergo two surgeries on his right knee this past season.
Jun 30 - 5:37 PM

The Rockets reportedly will not be granted a meeting with unrestricted free agent Mike Conley.

It sounds like Houston is out of the running for Conley's services, and they will now shift their attention to getting a quality reserve to backup starter Patrick Beverley. The Grizzlies remain the front-runners to re-sign Conley, although they will have some serious competition from the Mavs.

Jun 30 - 2:54 PM

The Lakers are interested in free agent Chandler Parsons, according to Tim MacMahon of ESPN.

Parsons will have a fair share of suitors as the Mavericks focus their free agent attention elsewhere. The Grizzlies and Knicks have already been rumored to be interested in Parsons and the Lakers look to be in on the action now as well. We'll keep an eye on reports surrounding the 27-year-old, but he'd be a nice mid-round fantasy option with some upside if he ends up in Los Angeles.
Jun 30 - 12:49 PM

The Grizzlies believe they can re-sign Mike Conley, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

Conley will have plenty of interest as one of the better free agents on the market, but the Grizzlies think they can hold off aggressive pursuits by the Mavs, Rockets, Nets, Bulls, and others. Conley could see an uptick in fantasy value if he signs somewhere other than Memphis, but the Grizzlies can offer him the most money so it would be a surprise to see him sign elsewhere with this news.
Jun 30 - 9:58 AM

The Grizzlies are interested in free agent Chandler Parsons, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.

While the Mavericks would like to keep Parsons, they are believed to be prioritizing other free agents so this could provide the Grizzlies an opportunity to swoop in and sign Parsons. Parsons is coming off arthroscopic surgery on his knee, but should continue to be a mid-round fantasy option with upside no matter where he signs (as long as he can stay healthy).
