Player News - Grizzlies

Date: Team: Pos:

Zach Randolph (illness) has been upgraded to probable for Wednesday's game vs. the Rockets.

He was held out of Tuesday's game vs. the Jazz and his presence was clearly missed, as Rudy Gobert and Derrick Favors destroyed the Grizzlies in the paint. If Z-Bo is cleared to play tonight he will be a must-start option in all leagues even if he isn't quite 100 percent. Kosta Koufos will shift to the bench and can be dropped in most leagues if Z-Bo is given the green light.
Mar 4 - 1:59 PM

Tony Allen will return from his one-game suspension vs. the Rockets on Wednesday.

He was suspended for Tuesday's game vs. the Jazz due to an altercation between him and Nick Calathes during practice, but he should resume his normal role off the bench against the Rockets. Allen has season averages of just 8.1 points, 4.0 boards, 1.4 assists and 1.9 steals, so he is only worth a look in deeper leagues for the time being.
Mar 4 - 12:55 PM

Vince Carter (foot) is listed as questionable to play vs. the Rockets on Wednesday.

Carter has been sidelined since Jan. 29, so the Grizzlies will likely ease him back into action upon his return. That being said, Carter had a very limited role off the bench prior to his injury, so owners in most leagues can monitor him from the waiver wire until further notice.
Mar 4 - 12:11 PM

Beno Udrih (illness) is questionable for Wednesday's game vs. the Rockets.

He is averaging just 18.2 minutes per game this season in a backup role behind Mike Conley, so owners in most leagues can ignore this news. Rookie Jordan Adams took most of Udrih's minutes against the Jazz on Tuesday, and he would have another chance to impress head coach Dave Joerger should Udrih sit this one out.
Mar 4 - 12:10 PM

Zach Randolph (illness) is questionable for Wednesday's game vs. the Rockets.

Z-Bo wasn't able to play on Tuesday vs. the Jazz, so his owners should have a backup plan ready. Check back for an update prior to tip-off before making any roster decisions, and expect Kosta Koufos to draw another start if Z-Bo is unable to play. To be clear, Koufos is only worth a look in deeper leagues.
Mar 4 - 12:09 PM

Jeff Green scored just six points on 3-of-13 shooting in a loss to the Jazz on Tuesday, adding six boards, four assists, one steal and one block in 36 minutes.

He is in the midst of a horrible slump, averaging 9.6 points, 4.4 boards and 2.6 assists while shooting just over 33 percent from the field over his last five games. It's pretty obvious that his departure from Boston was detrimental to his fantasy value, and he is going to be a tough player to own in most leagues moving forward.
Mar 3 - 11:20 PM

Courtney Lee scored 18 points on 7-of-13 shooting in a loss to the Jazz on Tuesday, adding five boards, one assist, one steal and two 3-pointers in 38 minutes.

It was the most minutes he had played since Jan. 11, but that was simply because the Grizzlies were without Tony Allen (suspension) and Beno Udrih (illness). Lee was averaging 10.7 points, 2.4 boards, 2.1 assists, 1.0 steal and 1.3 3-pointers per game this season prior to tonight, so owners in standard leagues can definitely do better.
Mar 3 - 11:11 PM

Kosta Koufos started in place of Zach Randolph (illness) on Tuesday vs. the Jazz, scoring six points with 10 boards and one assist in 34 minutes.

Koufos is a decent streaming option in daily leagues whenever Marc Gasol or Zach Randolph are inactive, but owners searching for long-term value should look the other way. The Grizzlies play the Rockets on Wednesday, so Koufos may have another chance to start if Z-Bo can't go.
Mar 3 - 11:03 PM

Jordan Adams scored a career-high 13 points against the Jazz on Tuesday, adding one steal, one block and one 3-pointer in 23 minutes.

The minutes were also a career-high for the rookie, but Adams got extended run off the bench because Tony Allen was suspended and Beno Udrih was sidelined with an illness. Adams has a bright future in the NBA, but he isn't going to be a key part of the Memphis rotation this season. Leave Adams on the wire.
Mar 3 - 10:57 PM

Vince Carter (foot) will not play against the Jazz on Tuesday.

He has been out since Jan. 29, but the fact that he was considered questionable can be viewed as a good sign. Carter was seen getting up some shots before tip-off, and he is reportedly targeting a return to action this week. We will continue to monitor his progress closely, but given his limited role off the bench, he isn't an option in almost any league.
Mar 3 - 8:11 PM

Kosta Koufos will start Tuesday's game in place of Zach Randolph (illness).

Koufos makes a decent temporary fantasy option but most owners should have more reliable long-term alternatives on the waiver wire. Z-Bo's absence will also open up more opportunities for backup big man Jon Leuer, and it will be all hands on deck for the Grizzlies tonight.
Mar 3 - 7:49 PM

Updating a previous report, Beno Udrih (illness) will not suit up for Tuesday's game vs. Utah.

Nick Calathes will have the opportunity for some additional playing time tonight, but with averages of just 4.0 points and 2.5 assists on the season, he can't be viewed as a viable option in most leagues.
Mar 3 - 6:40 PM

Updating a previous report, Zach Randolph (illness) and Beno Udrih (illness) have been ruled out for Tuesday's game vs. the Jazz.

Mike Conley and Marc Gasol will be tasked with more responsibilities on offense with Randolph unavailable, and they're worth a look as a plug-and-play option in daily leagues. It's unclear at this point who will replace Randolph in the starting lineup, but in the past it has been Jon Leuer or Kosta Koufos, although neither of those guys have been able to capitalize on the starting gig in the past.

Beno Udrih (illness) is questionable for Tuesday's game vs. the Jazz.

If Udrih is unable to go on Tuesday, Nick Calathes will pick up most of his reserve minutes, but that doesn't mean much. As long as Mike Conley is healthy, the backup point guards in Memphis won't be worth using in most leagues.
Mar 3 - 6:26 PM

Tony Allen (suspension) will not play Tuesday vs. the Jazz.

Allen is being suspended for internal matters, but he will be back in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Houston. With Allen out, Jeff Green and Courtney Lee will get all the minutes they can handle, with Green offering the most upside.
