New Bills OC Greg Roman said he'll give E.J. Manuel "a very clean slate" as they head into the offseason.

"I definitely think he's done some very good things and displayed some good traits. I'd say we just have to get his level of consistency a little bit greater," Roman said. "What [he] might've been asked to do or done in the past is really not relevant to what we may or may not ask him to do." Those are the most glowing words we've heard on Manuel from the Bills since the season ended. Manuel isn't going to be handed anything. Top beat writer Joe Buscaglia expects the Bills to address quarterback in free agency and the draft.

Bills DT Marcell Dareus isn't expected to receive an extension this offseason.

Dareus is under contract for $8.06 million in 2015 after the Bills exercised his fifth-year option. He's coming off his second straight Pro Bowl, and should require top-three defensive tackle money. Dareus and LT Cordy Glenn are both free agents after the 2015 season.

Bills GM Doug Whaley said OT Cyrus Kouandjio could be moved to guard.

A second-round pick, Kouandjio appeared in just one game after losing out to Seantrel Henderson for the right tackle job. With Kraig Urbik a candidate for release and Erik Pears a free agent, Kouandjio could be a starting option at one of the interior line spots in 2015.

Bills hired Anthony Lynn as RBs coach.

Lynn has spent the last six years under Rex Ryan and will follow him to Buffalo. He received interest from multiple teams this offseason, interviewing for the Jacksonville and Cleveland offensive-coordinator jobs. Lynn will look to turn around a Bills run game that ranked near the bottom of the league after being a top-three rushing offense in 2013.

New coach Rex Ryan showered Sammy Watkins with praise Sunday.

When Rex's Jets faced the Bills in Week 8, Watkins went for 157 yards and a touchdown. The next time they played, Ryan doubled the rookie wideout on every play. "Sammy is a one in every 10-year player that comes down the road," he said. It's clear Watkins will be a featured player for Rex and new OC Greg Roman, but there's plenty of reason for box-score concern. E.J. Manuel and Jeff Tuel are the only quarterbacks on the roster, Roman's track record isn't great with passing games and we know Ryan teams want to ground-n-pound.
Jan 20 - 11:52 AM

Bills hired David Lee as QB coach.

Lee has spent the last two seasons working with Geno Smith on Rex Ryan's staff. He was also the Bills QB coach in 2012, where he oversaw Ryan Fitzpatrick's eventual release from Buffalo. It's an underwhelming hire at a position that is the biggest question mark going into 2015. Lee is said to have a favorable view of E.J. Manuel.
Jan 17 - 2:29 PM

Bills hired former Bears OC Aaron Kromer as the team's offensive line coach.

Kromer is notorious for his tearful apology after leaking a story that disparaged Jay Cutler in December. He was the only member of the Bears' coaching staff to be fired when Marc Trestman was released following the season.
Jan 17 - 12:42 PM

Jets running backs coach Anthony Lynn is interviewing for the Jaguars open offensive coordinator position on Saturday.

Lynn joins a long list that includes former Buffalo OC Nathaniel Hackett and Raiders OC Greg Olson. No favorites have emerged for Jacksonville, but it would be surprising if Lynn was chosen over candidates with NFL play-calling experience. Lynn is expected to meet with the Browns during the Senior Bowl next week.

Impending free agent C.J. Spiller said he and the Jets "would be a perfect match."

"I’d be foolish not to have those guys on my list," said Spiller. "I had my best years in the league with [new Jets OC Chan Gailey]. So it’d be dumb not to give it serious thought." We agree with Spiller's assessment. The Jets should have an easy call to release Chris Johnson, and if they want to re-invest that money into another speed complement to Chris Ivory, then Spiller would be the perfect fit. Under Gailey in 2012, Spiller totaled 1,703 yards and eight touchdowns on 250 touches.
Jan 16 - 9:24 AM

Bills signed CB Jonte Green and OG Darryl Johnson to reserve/future contracts.

The No. 196 pick of the 2012 draft, Green appeared in 24 games for the Lions between 2012-13. Johnson is a 2014 undrafted free agent out of New Mexico.
Jan 15 - 4:53 PM

Speaking Thursday, Bills GM Doug Whaley said he was going to do his "darndest" to re-sign impending free agent C.J. Spiller.

"I’m sure he’s disappointed with how last year went with the injuries, but we want him to come back with us and get back to the form we know he can play at," Whaley said, echoing comments he made in December. Spiller's chances of remaining in Buffalo have increased with the additions of run-minded Rex Ryan and Greg Roman, but he's still a good bet to reach the open market.
Jan 15 - 3:08 PM

The Bills have started talks with impending free agent DE Jerry Hughes.

"We’re excited and we want him back," were the words of GM Doug Whaley. "He’s a great part of our defense and hopefully we can get it done sooner rather than later." The 26-year-old defensive end started all 16 games for the Bills this season, and finished tied for second on the team with 10 sacks. Hughes graded out as PFF's No. 14 defensive end.
Jan 15 - 2:55 PM

New coach Rex Ryan conceded that the Bills' quarterback situation is "unresolved."

"Unresolved" is putting it nicely. With Kyle Orton calling it quits, the only quarterbacks on the Bills' roster right now are E.J. Manuel and Jeff Tuel. It's an even worse situation than what Ryan dealt with for most of his tenure with the Jets. Speaking of that tenure, Rex said that free agent Mark Sanchez will "certainly" be under consideration as an addition. The regime change won't save Manuel.
Jan 15 - 9:14 AM

Bills hired Dennis Thurman as defensive coordinator.

Thurman, 58, has been coach Rex Ryan's right-hand man dating back to their days together in Baltimore. The two have been coaching together since 2002, and Thurman was the Jets' defensive coordinator the past two seasons. Ryan will call the shots on defense, but thinks Thurman will be a head coach someday. Greg Roman will be running the show on the other side of the ball as the Bills' OC.
Jan 14 - 12:46 PM

ESPN's Josina Anderson reports the Jaguars have requested permission to interview Jets RBs coach Anthony Lynn for their offensive-coordinator vacancy.

Lynn has also drawn interest from the Bills and Browns, but doesn't appear to be a leading candidate for any of the three teams. Lynn could ultimately reunite with Rex Ryan in Buffalo, but Ryan has already hired Greg Roman to coordinate his offense.
