Speaking Thursday, Jaguars coach Gus Bradley confirmed Denard Robinson will remain the starting running back for Week 8 even with Toby Gerhart (foot) returning.

Bradley said Gerhart will get "some reps," but Gerhart was being phased out of his starting job even before he started missing games. He'll fight for scraps with Jordan Todman and Storm Johnson behind Shoelace. Robinson is the only Jaguars' runner worth starting for Week 8, though he has a difficult matchup in the Dolphins' solid run defense.
Oct 23 - 3:39 PM

Toby Gerhart (foot) was upgraded to "full" in Thursday's practice.

Barring a setback, Gerhart will be good to go for Sunday's game against the Dolphins. However, he should be operating as no better than the No. 2 back after Denard Robinson had the first good game from any Jags runner in Week 7. Gerhart isn't on the re-draft or daily-league radar for Week 8.
Oct 23 - 3:34 PM

Jaguars CB Alan Ball (bicep) is doubtful for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.

Ball missed practice Wednesday to get a second opinion on the injury, never a good sign. The Jags may have to turn to another mediocre corner in Dwayne Gratz opposite Demetrius McCray.
Oct 23 - 8:57 AM

Toby Gerhart (foot) "appears" ready to return for Sunday's game against the Dolphins.

Gerhart is practicing on a limited basis this week and said he feels "pretty good" after taking the last two weeks off. However, his role is more uncertain than ever after Denard Robinson put a 22-127-1 line on the Browns last week. "I think we'll continue to mix and match a little bit," said OC Jedd Fisch. "I don't know exactly how that will all play out yet." We'd expect Robinson to start, but he's going to find the sledding very tough against an excellent Dolphins front. Gerhart will be a complementary early-down piece and Jordan Todman will handle a lot of third downs. It's not a terribly high-upside situation.
Oct 23 - 8:52 AM

ESPN's Michael DiRocco believes the Jaguars could have "found their running back of the future" in Denard Robinson.

"It may be the Denard Robinson show going forward," DiRocco said. "The Jaguars are going to limit his workload in the 15-20 carry range…but I think the main job is going to be Robinson's." Toby Gerhart resumed practicing Wednesday, and could return this week in a complementary role. Robinson has long-term upside, but will be just an RB3/FLEX in Week 8 against Miami.

Toby Gerhart (foot) will resume practicing Wednesday.

Gerhart expects to be "limited" after missing the last two weeks. He should be considered no better than questionable for Sunday's game against Miami. Gerhart will be a short-yardage complement behind Denard Robinson when he returns.
Oct 22 - 1:35 PM

Denard Robinson played 46-of-74 snaps in Sunday's win over the Browns.

Storm Johnson was on the field for 10 snaps in a change-of-pace role. Jordan Todman remained Jacksonville's third-down back, getting 19 snaps. Robinson is expected to keep the starting job going forward, with Toby Gerhart likely to be a complementary option with Johnson when he returns. Robinson is one of the top waiver-adds for Week 8. He's a recommended pickup in Yahoo leagues, where he has WR eligibility.
Oct 21 - 11:19 AM

Marcedes Lewis (ankle) is expected to resume practicing Oct. 28.

Lewis is on short-term IR and eligible to return Week 12. It appears he's on that path. Athletic Clay Harbor will hold solid TE2 value until then.
Oct 21 - 9:28 AM

Jaguars placed MLB Paul Posluszny on injured reserve with a torn pectoral muscle, ending his season.

Fringe player J.T. Thomas will get the first shot at replacing Posluszny, who has been the Jaguars' leading tackler each of the past four seasons. Jeremiah George is next up behind Thomas. Posluszny is far from a star, but has been a reliable presence for a defense without much talent or valuable experience. Now on the wrong side of 30, Posluszny is signed through 2016, but it's quite possible his $7.45 million 2015 salary gets him cut in the offseason.
Oct 20 - 1:07 PM

Jaguars DE Andre Branch tore his groin muscle against the Browns in Week 7 and is out six weeks.

Branch was a rotational end for Gus Bradley, netting two sacks in Week 1 but none since. An ascending Jags defense also lost MLB Paul Posluszny for the season to a torn pectoral sustained Sunday.
Oct 20 - 1:03 PM

When asked if Denard Robinson will keep the feature back job, coach Gus Bradley said, "Yeah, I think so."

Coaches are loathe to make depth chart declarations, especially right after games. But Bradley had to at least suggest he'd give it up for Shoelace after a 22-127-1 outing as the starter. When Toby Gerhart returns from his foot injury, he'll slide into a complementary role along with Storm Johnson. Gerhart has been a drop candidate in 10- and 12-team leagues for a few weeks now.
Oct 20 - 8:31 AM

Storm Johnson rushed six times for 16 yards and a touchdown in the Jaguars' Week 7 win over the Browns.

He did not play in the passing game for the second straight week. Demoted in favor of Denard Robinson, Johnson was severely outplayed by Jacksonville's new starter. Fantasy owners who made the mistake of starting Johnson should thank their lucky stars he scored on a garbage-time goal-line carry in the fourth quarter. Johnson is worth dropping in most 12-team leagues.
Oct 19 - 5:24 PM

Blake Bortles completed 17-of-31 passes for 159 yards, one touchdown, and three interceptions in the Jaguars' Week 7 win over the Browns.

He added five carries for 37 yards, gaining much of it on read-option plays. The third overall pick in May's draft has been incredibly turnover prone -- still making an assortment of bad decisions -- but continues to play with aggressiveness, and the Jags are slowly but surely opening up their offense at the intermediate and deep levels. Bortles will remain a boom-or-bust two-quarterback-league option when the Jags face the tough Dolphins defense in Week 8.
Oct 19 - 5:21 PM

Allen Hurns secured 1-of-2 targets for seven yards in the Jaguars' Week 7 win over the Browns.

Now splitting time with Marqise Lee in sub-packages behind Allen Robinson and Cecil Shorts, Hurns is safe to drop in 14- and 16-team fantasy leagues.
Oct 19 - 5:16 PM

Cecil Shorts managed three catches for 12 yards in the Jaguars' Week 7 win over the Browns.

Shorts spent much of this game in Joe Haden's coverage, managing to secure just three of his nine targets. He did lead Jacksonville in targets, but was inefficient and didn't benefit from an up-and-down performance out of rookie QB Blake Bortles. Shorts has been a short-pass receiver in the Jags' 2014 offense, failing to make plays downfield. He'll be a borderline WR3 when Jacksonville takes on the underrated Miami defense in Week 8.
