Skinny Posts: Super Bowl Fallout
by Gregg Rosenthal

What I wouldn't give to be in New Orleans for the month of February. This crowd's reaction after Tracy Porter's interception is priceless. How about a look at the atmosphere in the Big Easy Sunday night? The city will be enjoying "Mardi Gras for months."

  • Sean Payton is the latest darling of the NFL world, garnering praise for his aggressiveness, bold decisions, and outside-the-box thinking in the Saints' victory. One writer even credits Payton with introducing "Moneyball" to the NFL.

  • On the flip side, the Colts are deservedly taking heat for their overly conservative approach to the Big Game. What does the Colts' loss and Peyton Manning's game-clinching pick-six say about his legacy? PFT's Mike Florio believes "there likely will never be a clear-cut best-ever Michael Jordan-style quarterback in our lifetimes. And that might not be a bad thing."

  • Football Outsiders' "Quick Reads" has been one of my favorite weekly features ever since I discovered it at mid-season. Here's their Super Bowl recap by position. Despite the costly drop, Pierre Garcon was the game's most valuable receiver/tight end. Also, check out Football Outsiders' "Audibles at the Line" for running in-game commentary. Saints beat writer Mike Triplett has a nice recap of his own.

  • SI.com's Peter King's must-read MMQB examines the "two nobodies" who played huge roles in the outcome. Don Banks, also of SI.com, looks at possible moves for the Saints and Colts this offseason. Hint: Reggie Bush will remain in New Orleans as a role player.

Tim Tebow - QB - CLG
NFL Network's Mike Mayock believes Tim Tebow can develop into a quarterback who can "win football games" in the NFL in 2-3 years.
Our favorite draft analyst guesses that Tebow will be a second-round pick, but he'd advise holding off until the third because of the time needed to fix the Florida QB's throwing motion and footwork. Per Profootballtalk.com, Mayock added: "If you're ever going to take a chance on a kid, this is the kid." | 2/9/2010 10:17:00 PM

    Walter Jones - T - SEA
The Seahawks are still unsure of LT Walter Jones' plans for 2010.
Jones announced "it is time for me to retire from football" on Twitter Sunday, but he's publicly stated that he wants to keep playing if possible. While he's supposedly exchanged communication with the front office this week, the team has yet to "reconfirm" Jones' plans. | 2/9/2010 8:16:00 PM

John Bowie - DB - CLE
Browns signed CB John Bowie to a reserve/future contract.
A 2007 fourth-round pick by the Raiders, Bowie has intriguing speed but can't stay healthy. He's played in just five games the past three years. | 2/9/2010 7:44:00 PM

Greg Olsen - TE - CHI
Greg Olsen didn't handle his blocking duties well in 2009, according to "multiple scouts who watched the Bears regularly."
The news isn't surprising since Olsen has always been lauded much more for his receiving ability. It's a significant concern for 2010, though, since Mike Martz won't be using nearly as many two-tight end sets as Ron Turner did. It's yet another reason to dock Olsen's fantasy outlook under Martz. | 2/9/2010 7:40:00 PM

Felix Jones - RB - DAL
According to beat writer Tim MacMahon, the Cowboys' "easy decision" in the backfield is to make Felix Jones the "lead horse."
MacMahon believes Marion Barber may "already be wearing down" and that his struggles in short yardage are a "serious concern." The team is expected be open to trading either Barber or Tashard Choice this offseason, but they may be hesitant to pull the trigger after all three backs missed time with injuries in 2009. For a team that has the look of a serious contender, the backfield depth is more necessity than luxury. | 2/9/2010 7:22:00 PM

    D. Stallworth - WR - CLE
Updating a previous item, Profootballtalk.com reports Donte' Stallworth will work out for the Lions Wednesday.
The Lions presumably see Stallworth as an upgrade on Bryant Johnson as the No. 2 receiver. His 17 receptions for 170 yards in 11 games with the Browns two years ago suggest that may no longer be the case. | 2/9/2010 6:20:00 PM
