Week of Oct. 16-22

Great Options

Sergei Bobrovsky-Columbus Blue Jackets

Schedule: Tue @ WPG, Thu vs. TB, Sat vs. LAK

Bobrovsky is off to a fantastic start this season, as he’s already beaten the Islanders, Hurricanes and Rangers while giving up just two goals in the process. The defending Vezina Trophy winner has a tiny 0.65 goals-against-average and a .981 save percentage going into this week. With two home games on the schedule, he should be able to put together a nice fantasy week.

Andrei Vasilevskiy-Tampa Bay Lightning

Schedule: Mon @ DET, Tue @ NJ, Thu @ CBJ, Sat vs. PIT

Vasilevskiy’s individual numbers aren’t overly impressive (3.74 goals-against-average and a .900 save percentage), but he’s actually come up a number of big saves for his team so far this season. The Lightning will have a tough schedule this week, but Vasilevskiy has already defeated Florida, Washington and Pittsburgh this season.

Ben Bishop-Dallas Stars

Schedule: Tue vs. ARZ, Thu @ ARZ, Sat vs. CAR

Bishop and the Stars are off to a rocky start this season, as they have just one win in their first four contests. Things should turn around this week with two games against the Coyotes on tap. Bishop has a 1-1-0 record with a 1.85 goals-against-average and a .932 save percentage this season.

Craig Anderson-Ottawa Senators

Schedule: Tue vs. VAN, Thu vs. NJ, Sat vs. TOR

Anderson opened the season with two shootout losses in a row, but he’s now won back-to-back games against Vancouver and Calgary. He’s given up just two goals total in the last wins. All three of Ottawa’s games will be at home this week, which means that there’s a good opportunity for them to come away with victories. Anderson has a 1.65 goals-against-average and a .937 save percentage this season.

Good Options

Corey Crawford-Chicago Blackhawks

Schedule: Wed @ STL, Thu vs. EDM, Sat @ ARZ

Crawford is coming off a loss to the Minnesota Wild, but he’s been very good so far this season. The Hawks goalie now has a 3-1-0 record with a 1.50 goals-against-average and a .956 save percentage this season. His fantasy value is lowered by Chicago’s condensed schedule. They’ll play three games in four nights. Expect Crawford to be in goal for two of them.

Frederik Andersen-Toronto Maple Leafs

Schedule: Tue @ WSH, Wed vs. DET, Sat @ OTT

Andersen doesn’t have the best stats on this list, but he and the Toronto Maple Leafs haven’t had a tough time putting together victories. The Leafs goalie has a 3-1-0 record with a 3.96 goals-against-average and a .871 save percentage this season. If he stays healthy, he should continue to see a lot of work this season.

Jimmy Howard-Detroit Red Wings

Schedule: Mon vs. TB, Wed @ TOR, Fri vs. WSH, Sun vs. VAN

The Red Wings weren’t expected to be good this season, but they’ve gotten off to a strong start. Obviously, that doesn’t mean they’ll be a playoff team though. The Wings have four games on their schedule this week and three of them are going to be tough matchups. The fact that there’s potential for Howard to play in at least three games makes him an interesting fantasy option.

Tuukka Rask-Boston Bruins

Schedule: Thu vs. VAN, Sat vs. BUF

The Bruins only have two games this week, but they’ll come against two very beatable opponents in Vancouver and Buffalo. Rask has a 1-2-0 record with a 3.76 goals-against-average and a .870 save percentage this season. He won’t have much room for error this week, but he’s in a relatively good spot.

Bad Options

Carey Price-Montreal Canadiens

Schedule: Tue @ SJ, Wed @ LAK, Fri @ ANA

Price continues to be one of the best goalies in the world, but his teammates don’t exactly provide a lot of run-support for him. Price has a 1-3-0 record with a 3.30 goals-against-average and a .899 save percentage this season, and improving those numbers during a trip through California won’t be easy. There will be better fantasy days ahead for Price.

Robin Lehner-Buffalo Sabres

Schedule: Tue @VGK, Fri vs. VAN, Sat @ BOS

Many expected the Sabres to be an improved hockey club this season, but that hasn’t been the case so far. Lehner has dropped all three of his starts this season and things don’t appear to be getting any better. Lehner has a 0-2-1 record with a 3.17 goals-against-average and a .901 save percentage this season.

Roberto Luongo-Florida Panthers

Schedule: Tue @ PHI, Fri vs. PIT, Sat @ WSH

Luongo is coming off a win over the St. Louis Blues, but things won’t be easy for him and the Panthers this week. They’ll play in Philadelphia and Washington this week with a home matchup against the Penguins sandwiched in between. That’s far from an ideal schedule from a fantasy perspective.

Scott Darling-Carolina Hurricanes

Schedule: Tue @ EDM, Thu @ CGY, Sat @ DAL

Darling still hasn’t lost in regulation as a member of the Hurricanes, but that will probably change this week. The Hurricanes have three tough road games this week, which doesn’t bode well for Darling’s fantasy stock. He has a 2.80 goals-against-average and a .889 save percen
