FanDuel Bargain Bin: Monday

Several factors line up well for David Freese tonight:

1 – The recent production has been there, as Freese has homered in two straight games, tallying 5 RBI’s over the past four.

2 – His price is still incredibly cheap, sitting near minimum salary at $2400 on FanDuel.

3 – He is facing arguably one of the worst pitchers in action tonight, Oakland left-hander Felix Doubront.

4 – Freese sees a nice boost against left-handed pitchers, holding a .367 wOBA, .188 ISO mark.

Add it all up, and you have a very tempting bargain play on FanDuel. I’m not seeing many other reasonably priced third basemen either, maybe considering Alex Rodriguez as his primary competition. However, if you need a cheap pick with reasonable upside, Freese is your guy in this situation.

Now onto the rest of today’s bargain selections on FanDuel:

DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH

Jason Kipnis – 2B – CLE (FanDuel Price: $2,900)

This is such a great price point for Kipnis that I would consider him even in difficult matchups. His draw vs Minnesota pitcher Phil Hughes does not profile as such. Kipnis has five multi-hit games over the past ten, racking up five total hits over the past three games. He’s a building block for cash games tonight.

Albert Pujols – 1B – LAA (FanDuel Price: $3,100)

You could look towards Anthony Rizzo, Chris Davis, or David Ortiz at first base tonight, but they might be difficult to blend within a solid lineup while simultaneously paying up for pitcher. Simply put, Pujols is far too cheap considering his upside/true talent level, and the aforementioned cushy matchup vs Felix Doubront could bring that to the forefront.

Chris Young – OF – NYY (FanDuel Price: $2,400)

Chris Young has been a machine against left-handed pitching this season, ranking in the top 15 overall when considering that split (ahead of Todd Frazier, J.D. Martinez, Adrian Beltre, etc). Tonight, Young will face the erratic pitching of Boston southpaw Eduardo Rodriguez, who has been blowup prone throughout his rookie season.

Also Consider: Alex Rodriguez – 3B – NYY

VIABLE PUNTS

David Freese – 3B – LAA (FanDuel Price: $2,400)

I already touched on David Freese in the introduction, and while he may not be a 100% lineup fixture (Alex Rodriguez is a great per dollar play at 3B), he fits extremely well into a loaded FanDuel team.

Yan Gomes – C – CLE (FanDuel Price: $2,400)

How about we pick on Mr. Phil Hughes again? The Minnesota pitcher actually has reverse splits throughout his career, giving up more production to right-handed hitters. That sets up well for Yan Gomes, who has the power-upside to take advantage. It’s between him and Victor Martinez for cheap catcher nominations, but I’m slightly leaning towards Gomes.

Adam Jones – OF – BAL (FanDuel Price: $2,500)

I think we can all agree that this salary is far too cheap for Jones. However, his recent subpar stretch has knocked him into this pricing discount. He could break through at any time, and you don’t have to sacrifice much to squeeze him into your FanDuel lineup.

Also Consider: Mike Napoli – 1B – TEX

TOURNAMENT GAMBLES

Mark Canha – OF – OAK (FanDuel Price: $3,200)

You better believe the A’s are in play tonight. In fact, they are probably one of my favorite “sneaky stacks”. Angels’ pitcher Hector Santiago is running of out steam down the stretch, which could inspire a bundle of runs from this often surprising Oakland offense. Canha is the leading candidate to make that happen, flexing some serious upside over the past 1-2 months.

Justin Smoak – 1B – TOR (FanDuel Price: $2,700)

Smoak is a reasonable tournament pick pretty much every night he’s in the lineup, mostly because he has decent power with a nice lineup spot for the best offense in baseball. That’s the case once again tonight. Even though the Jays are on the road, they are still in a relatively good hitter park in Baltimore.

Chris Carter – 1B – HOU (FanDuel Price: $2,500)

Carter hasn’t exactly lived up to the billing this season, as several baseball analysts thought he’d be in the homerun race by year’s end. Having said that, Carter is finishing the regular season with a bang, smacking four homers over his past six games. He has a solid righty/lefty matchup against Roenis Elias, but the park downgrade to Seattle introduces some risk.

Also Consider: Jhonny Peralta – SS – STL
