When looking at “bargains on FanDuel, typically we’ll focus on players who are priced at $6,000 or lower.
We have a tidy four-game slate tonight, meaning I will rank the top five bargains in the FanDuel player pool, throwing in a couple more to consider for good measure.
Just a quick note that these player picks were organized early in the day. For the NBA, there is usually a plethora of news trickling out through the afternoon, which could open up some more value plays. Be sure to keep posted with the NBA Headlines & Injuries section, as the wonderful contributors over there will break down the DFS consequences of every piece of news.
Now onto the bargain plays.
1 - Ishmael Smith – PG – Philadelphia (FanDuel Price: $6,100)
Smith is now a “bargain bin regular”, even though his salary is starting to ascend from that classification. Still, he’s underpriced considering his recent performance, hitting 40+ fantasy points in three of the past five games. A home matchup vs Atlanta looks decent for fantasy purposes, as the Hawks rank 20th in defensive efficiency vs opposing point guards. Target Ish with confidence.
2 - Taj Gibson – PF – Chicago (FanDuel Price: $5,400)
Gibson is another easy value pick in this abbreviated four-game slate. He’ll continue to start and log 33-36+ minutes with Joakim Noah out. At this salary range, you’re looking at a minimum of 26 fantasy points to hit value. He has approached or surpassed that mark in six of the past eight games, including a monster 42 fantasy point performance on Tuesday.
3 - Evan Turner – SF – Boston (FanDuel Price: $5,700)
Avery Bradley will continue to miss time for Boston, meaning Evan Turner will retain his starting role of 36 minutes. He has seeing that playing time in each of the past three games with Bradley out, hitting a solid 24, 28, and 23 fantasy points respectively through that stretch. Those are reasonable fantasy marks for the price, and you’d be satisfied with that output on a short-slate like tonight. On top of that, Turner’s profile has some inherent upside, and Chicago ranks 24th vs opposing small forwards this season.
4 - Lou Williams – SG – LA Lakers (FanDuel Price: $5,500)
Kobe Bryant will return tonight, which somewhat dampens Williams’ fantasy prospects. I still believe he’s a solid play, based on matchup alone (Sacramento ranks 28th in defensive efficiency vs shooting guards). Williams has proven the ability to coexist with Bryant earlier last month, hitting 27+ FP in four of six games leading up to Kobe’s absence before the New Year.
5 - Darren Collison – PG – Sacramento (FanDuel Price: $5,600)
This somewhat depends on the status of Rajon Rondo, who is listed as questionable. If Rondo is out, Collison becomes the best value play of the night. If Rondo is in, Collison is still playable in a great matchup with the Lakers, but he comes with quite a bit more risk (probably catered more for tournaments). Keep an eye on Rondo’s status.
Jeff Withey – C – Utah (FanDuel Price: $4,700)
Withey has been excelling, even in some difficult matchups, while starting for the short-handed Utah frontcourt. Derrick Favors has been ruled out, but Rudy Gobert is questionable – with a chance to return tonight. If Gobert is back, Withey is no longer a value play. If Gobert is out, Withey looks like a solid return on investment, putting up 32 FP last week vs this same Houston team.
Marco Belinelli – SG – Sacramento (FanDuel Price: $4,300)
This is another injury contingent play. Omri Casspi is questionable tonight. If he’s out, Belinelli will soak up his minutes. Also, if Rajon Rondo is out (as explained earlier), Belinelli will likely see more minutes in the Sacramento backcourt as well. He has made the most of his extended time as of late, averaging 30 FPPG over the past four. The matchup vs LAL couldn’t be much better.
