FanDuel Bargain Bin: Wednesday

by Spencer Limbach
Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

On FanDuel, typically we’ll focus on players who are priced at $6,000 or lower.

There are plenty of fine options under that salary threshold for this Wednesday slate of games. Because of this, I will be ranking the Top 10 value plays in terms of priority to your lineups.

Just a quick note that these player picks were organized early in the day. For the NBA, there is usually a plethora ofnews trickling out through the afternoon, which could open up some more value plays. Be sure to keep posted with the NBA Headlines & Injuries section, as the wonderful contributors over there will break down the DFS consequences of every piece of news.

1 - Archie Goodwin – PG – Phoenix (FanDuel Price: $4,100)

Brandon Knight will continue to miss time for Phoenix, meaning Goodwin’s role as starting point guard remains. The matchup tonight is fairly middling against Cleveland (at least on paper), but high minutes and some nice recent performances (35 FPPG over past three) inspires confidence moving forward. He doesn’t need much to hit value tonight, and considering he put up 27 FP against the tough Spurs defense two games ago helps the rationale in selecting him.

2 - Avery Bradley – SG – Boston (FanDuel Price: $5,500)

Bradley has been a nice, mid-range value play for several weeks now. That doesn’t change tonight. Part of the appeal here comes from Bradley’s high minute totals in competitive games. Also, the fact that Denver ranks 28th in defensive efficiency against opposing shooting guards doesn’t hurt. On a day when there is low opportunity cost at the shooting guard position, it makes sense to invest in Bradley while faced with this cushy matchup.

3 - Robert Covington – SF – Philadelphia (FanDuel Price: $5,100)

Jahlil Okafor is out for Philadelphia, which causes a chain-reaction throughout the frontcourt rotation, ultimately helping Covington’s minutes. He has been a fine value since retaining the starting job, averaging 27 FPPG over the past seven. Even though Detroit rates pretty well against opposing small forwards, the playing time, consistent role, and cheap price point for Covington outweigh that negative aspect.

4 - Marcus Smart – PG – Boston (FanDuel Price: $5,500)

Smart is in a nice situation today, as Denver ranks 28th against opposing backcourt members. Smart often floats between the PG and SG positions, and the Nuggets happen to rank in the bottom five at defending both spots. He consistently sees 28-32 minutes every game, which has translated to upside of 30+ fantasy points in the past two games.

5 - Devin Booker – SG – Phoenix (FanDuel Price: $4,500)

The write-up for Booker will somewhat resemble that of his teammate, Archie Goodwin, explained above. Ultimately, the matchup is very neutral, but Booker’s 36-40 minute complement with high-shot volume should sustain him tonight. Feel free to select him as a safe investment for cash games.

6 - Ersan Ilaysova – PF – Detroit (FanDuel Price: $5,700)

The matchup is really nice here, as the Pistons will take on Philadelphia tonight. Surprisingly, Ilaysova has been pretty consistent this season, making him a reliable commodity in all formats. Also, the power forward position is pretty spotty for value tonight, bumping up the demand for a well-aligned value like Ersan.

7 - Jeremy Lin – SG – Charlotte (FanDuel Price: $5,400)

This is very much an injury contingent selection. Lin is only in play if Nicolas Batum and Jeremy Lamb (both listed as questionable) are ruled out. In that case, Lin would see 36+ minutes to raise his fantasy floor in a difficult matchup with Utah. If Batum and/or Lamb play, Lin’s playing time and role would dwindle to the point of fantasy irrelevance.

8 - Zach LaVine – SG – Minnesota (FanDuel Price: $4,200)

Kevin Martin has been ruled out tonight, and LaVine posted a sweet 36 FP outing (30 minutes) in his stead last game. Granted, the draw against Oklahoma City doesn’t look great on paper, but LaVine actually has one of the better individual matchups of any Minnesota player: facing the lackluster defense of Dion Waiters. I love LaVine for tournaments, as a pivot off Devin Booker.

9 - Alex Len – C – Phoenix (FanDuel Price: $4,800)

I’m somewhat skeptical of Alex Len, especially with Phoenix getting healthier in the frontcourt. However, he has been producing as of late (three straight with 35+ FP), which is keeping him in the starting lineup. If it’s announced that Len will continue to start, he’s a fine salary relief play again tonight. Having said that, I’d view him as more of a tournament option, just because the Phoenix rotation could easily evolve mid-game.

10 - Tristan Thompson – PF – Cleveland (FanDuel Price: $4,600)

Thompson started last game, posting a whopping 36 FP in 36 minutes against the Timberwolves. Tonight, he has just as good of a matchup (if not better) against a beat-up Phoenix frontcourt. If Tristan is starting again, he can be looked at as a nice value selection to round out the power forward position. As I mentioned earlier, there aren’t any “slam dunk values” at this position tonight, which makes Thompson even more intriguing if his situation works out.
