Fanduel Fades: October 18

There are five games today with two in the afternoon. I’m going to give you some fades as these players either should not be in your lineup or tread carefully if you want them on your FanDuel squad. We will also be updating the goaltending matchups at the bottom of the column all season (up to the 7pm start times for most lineups) so check the column and Rotoworld’s daily blurbs for the latest updates.

Semyon Varlamov G (Colorado) - $8,300

This one is a no-brainer as Reto Berra, who is coming off a shutout versus the Ducks, is the confirmed starter. Varlamov is 1-2 this season but his peripherals are horrible as he has a 5.06 GAA and a .841 save percentage.

Rick Nash LW (NY Rangers) - $8,100

Nash usually gets off to a strong start but this season he has not as he has only one assist in five games. The second highest dollar amount among left wingers on Sunday will eventually break out but there will be a lot better bargains today than the slumping Nash.

Radim Vrbata RW (Edmonton) - $6,600

Losing the Sedin twins as your linemates during five-on-five hurts but Vrbata does line up with them on the power play.  Unfortunately, the Canucks have scored only once with the man-advantage and it was the second unit (Bo Horvat) that found the back of the net. Horvat and Derek Dorsett were Vrbata’s linemates last game and that does not bode well for action on Sunday.

Matt Duchene C (Colorado) - $6,900

Duchene is off to such a rough start that he actually is a minus player in FanDuel heading into action on Sunday. Even with that knowledge, he is still the second most expensive center today. The Avalanche are playing the Kings and I don’t think tonight is the night that Duchene breaks loose.

Ryan Kesler C (Anaheim) - $6,300

Every Anaheim forward is off to a rough start but while you figure Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf will break out quickly maybe the same cannot be said for Kesler. In four games he has a minus-three rating with a couple of minors and nine shots. Oh yeah, no points.

Drew Doughty D (Los Angeles) - $5,500

Doughty is a terrific defenseman but not as great as everyone thinks he is in fantasy hockey. He was sensational as a 20-year-old with 16 goals and 43 assists but last season was the first time in six years that he had more than 40 points as he picked up 46. He has only one assist in four games this season.
