There are 12 games tonight as the schedule gets busy on a Saturday night. I’m going to give you some fades as these players either should not be in your lineup or tread carefully if you want them on your FanDuel squad. We will also be updating the goaltending matchups at the bottom of the column all season (up to the 7pm start times for most lineups) so check the column and Rotoworld’s daily blurbs for the latest updates.
Jimmy Howard G (Detroit) - $8,600
Jimmy Howard went on Friday and while he played well in giving up three goals to the Flames, coach Jeff Blashill already stated beforehand that Petr Mrazek would get the start against the Canucks. Mrazek could take over as the number one goalie at some point this season but for now the Red Wings are splitting the starts between the duo.
Ben Bishop G (Tampa Bay) - $8,700
Bishop won on Friday as the Lightning beat the Jets in overtime but it looks like Kristers Gudlevskis will get his first start in goal this season for Tampa Bay. Bishop has been okay this season with a 5-2-1 record but his .907 save percentage and 2.61 GAA leaves the door open for Andrei Vasilevskiy to get a shot once he returns to action after undergoing vascular surgery.
Rick Nash LW (New York Rangers) - $8,200
Nash is off to a poor start with only a goal and three points in eight games. He is also a minus-two this season and for the price, there are plenty of better choices in FanDuel on Saturday.
Jaden Schwartz LW (St. Louis) - $6,300
Schwartz crashed into the goal post in practice on Friday and was carried off the ice. He isn’t expected to play as the Blues recalled Ty Rattie from the minors. Well he won’t play as he underwent surgery to repair a fractured ankle and will be re-evaluated in 12 weeks. He is a definite do not play on Saturday.
Corey Perry RW (Anaheim) - $8,600
Perry is going to break out one of these days and Saturday could be the one but he has only one assist in six games and until he finally shows something I would pass on the Anaheim right winger. His price is too high to be taking chances while he is slumping.
Nikita Kucherov RW (Tampa Bay) - $6,500
The Lightning’s line of Kucherov, Ondrej Palat and Tyler Johnson were outstanding last season as they were arguably the best line in hockey. But that is not the case this season and coach Jon Cooper has broken them up for a time. Kucherov has only two goals and no assists with a minus-one rating this season in eight games. Enough said.
Nick Leddy D (New York Islanders - $4,800
Leddy has yet to garner a point in seven games and has only one minor with five shots on goal. He had a big year last season with 10 goals and 37 points but thus far he has been a bust in fantasy hockey. Take him at your own risk.
Jack Johnson D (Columbus) - $4,700
The Blue Jackets are floundering at 0-8 and so is Johnson who has a goal and no assists this season with a minus-nine rating. He scored a week ago and has done nothing since, as had most Blue Jackets. Perhaps new coach John Tortorella will have an affect on Johnson, but we’ll take a wait-and-see approach for now.
Ryan Johansen C (Columbus) - $7,000
While Johansen is one of the few Blue Jackets who have scored as he has a goal and six points in eight games, new coach Tortorella bench him last game for the final six-plus minutes and the rumors flying around indicate that Johansen is not in the best of shape. Take a pass on him at this time as Tortorella could make Johansen an example for the rest of the team and keep him on the bench.
Matt Duchene C (Colorado) - $6,900
Duchene continues to disappoint as he has only one goal in six games with a minus-five rating. He finally clicked on the power play Sunday for his only point but there are plenty of better centers available in FanDuel tonight.
