FanDuel NBA Plays: Friday

by Derek "Notorious Farnsworth

We don’t have our usual 10-12 game slate on Friday night, but there are six games on the schedule. We have some very nice matchups though, including three games with totals of at least 208 points. There are also quite a few injuries around the league, which open the door for some great value plays. Here are my favorite targets at each position on FanDuel.

Point Guard

John Wall vs. Phoenix Suns

Salary $9,000

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           23.6     |           Last Five Games:       26.1

Min/Game --  Season:           33.7     |           Last Five Games:       36.2

FP/Game --    Season:           36.7     |           Last Five Games:       41.3

After a rough stretch of games, Wall has been on fire in his two, scoring 60 and 58 fantasy points. Tonight may be the last opportunity to target him at this price, before it goes back up to the $9,500 range. Wall draws a favorable matchup against the Suns in what is expected to be the fastest-paced game of the night. He will be a popular play, but it’s tough to fade him in such a great spot at home.

Patrick Beverley vs. Dallas Mavericks

Salary $3,900

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           13.2     |           Last Five Games:       12.1

Min/Game --  Season:           20.9     |           Last Five Games:       27.9

FP/Game --    Season:           14.2     |           Last Five Games:       19.4

In order to afford some of the superstars on the slate tonight, we are going to have to save salary somewhere. Beverley offers great value at a price of only $3,900. His minutes are trending in the right direction, as he has averaged 19.4 fantasy points in 27.9 minutes over his last five games. He could see 30+ minutes tonight against the Mavericks in Dallas.

Shooting Guard

James Harden vs. Dallas Mavericks

Salary $10,800

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           28.3     |           Last Five Games:       29.0

Min/Game --  Season:           39.5     |           Last Five Games:       41.3

FP/Game --    Season:           48.3     |           Last Five Games:       53.9

The Rockets are a mess right now, but Harden continues to produce at an elite level. Over his last five games, he has averaged 53.9 fantasy points per contest. He may have to shoulder even more of the load offensively tonight with Dwight Howard out. The only concern is that this game could turn into a blowout, but the Rockets are only listed as 5.5-point underdogs.

Wesley Matthews vs. Houston Rockets

Salary $4,800

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           16.0     |           Last Five Games:       14.8

Min/Game --  Season:           30.2     |           Last Five Games:       34.6

FP/Game --    Season:           18.1     |           Last Five Games:       21.2

Dollar for dollar, Matthews is one of my favorite plays tonight. His minutes and production are both trending upward, as he has averaged 21.2 fantasy points in 34.6 minutes per game in his last five. He draws a terrific matchup against the Rockets, who have been one of the worst defensive teams in the NBA this season. He should get plenty of open looks tonight at home.

Small Forward

LeBron James vs. New Orleans Pelicans

Salary $10,000

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           28.0     |           Last Five Games:       26.8

Min/Game --  Season:           36.5     |           Last Five Games:       37.2

FP/Game --    Season:           44.8     |           Last Five Games:       42.6

James hasn’t played his best recently, but he is so consistent that he deserves consideration in all league formats. He is basically a lock for 40 fantasy points every time he steps on the floor. With Kevin Love locked up with Anthony Davis, James may have to shoulder a bit more of the load offensively. The Cavaliers have an implied team total of 106.5 points tonight, which is one of the highest they have had this season.

Jared Dudley vs. Phoenix Suns

Salary $3,600

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           9.2       |           Last Five Games:       10.6

Min/Game --  Season:           24.7     |           Last Five Games:       29.6

FP/Game --    Season:           14.1     |           Last Five Games:       16.9

Once again, we need to find value in order to afford some of the superstars tonight. Dudley could end up playing 35+ minutes tonight against the Suns. Marcin Gortat has already been ruled out and Drew Gooden, Kris Humphries, and Nene Hilario are all questionable. Dudley is a low-risk, medium-reward play that is priced close to the minimum salary.

Power Forward

Anthony Davis vs. Cleveland Cavaliers

Salary $11,100

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           24.3     |           Last Five Games:       22.2

Min/Game --  Season:           35.0     |           Last Five Games:       37.5

FP/Game --    Season:           44.9     |           Last Five Games:       48.0

Davis has not treated the daily fantasy community very well this season. Whenever he has had a great matchup, he has either had a bad game, or he has left early with an injury. Hopefully, he is past those nagging injuries though, as he draws a nice matchup against the Cavaliers at home. Davis has as much upside as any player on the slate tonight.

Terrence Jones vs. Dallas Mavericks

Salary $5,600

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           17.1     |           Last Five Games:       14.8

Min/Game --  Season:           25.5     |           Last Five Games:       21.7

FP/Game --    Season:           20.6     |           Last Five Games:       15.1

With Dwight Howard out, Terrence Jones is expected to draw the start at power forward tonight. His minutes have been down recently, but he should see 30+ minutes tonight against the Mavericks, who have struggled to contain opposing power forwards this season. The price is a little steep, but that should help keep the ownership level down.

Center

Andre Drummond vs. Milwaukee Bucks

Salary $9,400

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           21.1     |           Last Five Games:       25.3

Min/Game --  Season:           35.4     |           Last Five Games:       34.2

FP/Game --    Season:           44.3     |           Last Five Games:       44.4

Drummond can’t hit a free throw (12-46 in his last three games), but he is still producing at a very high level. Over his last five games, he has averaged 44.4 fantasy points per contest. He draws a favorable matchup tonight against the Bucks, who have the worst rebounding differential in the NBA this season.

Alex Len vs. Washington Wizards

Salary $3,900

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           13.3     |           Last Five Games:       11.7

Min/Game --  Season:           16.1     |           Last Five Games:       20.5

FP/Game --    Season:           14.0     |           Last Five Games:       19.3

Tyson Chandler has already been ruled out of tonight’s game, which means Alex Len will draw another start at center. If he can stay out of foul trouble, he should be able to feast on a Wizards’ frontcourt that is ravaged with injuries. If you are looking to fade Andre Drummond tonight, Len is the next best option at center.
