FanDuel NBA Plays: Friday

by Derek "Notorious Farnsworth

We have another full slate of games on tap for Friday night. There are 22 teams in action tonight, including the Warriors, who are looking to keep their unbeaten streak alive. The picks listed below are my favorite targets at each position on FanDuel; this is not meant to be an entire lineup.

Point Guard

John Wall vs. New Orleans Pelicans

Salary $9,500

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           23.6     |           Last Five Games:       24.5

Min/Game --  Season:           34.7     |           Last Five Games:       38.3

FP/Game --    Season:           38.7     |           Last Five Games:       49.0

Wall has been terrific over his last five games, averaging 49 fantasy points per contest. He draws one of the best matchups on the board tonight. The Pelicans are ranked dead last in points allowed per game and defensive efficiency this season. Wall should be able to make plays in transition and put together another solid fantasy outing.

Brandon Knight vs. Portland Trail Blazers

Salary $7,900

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           22.5     |           Last Five Games:       20.1

Min/Game --  Season:           36.2     |           Last Five Games:       37.5

FP/Game --    Season:           35.1     |           Last Five Games:       31.6

Dollar for dollar, Knight is one of my favorite plays at any position tonight. He is coming off of a 43-fantasy point outing against the Magic. Tonight he squares off against Damian Lillard and the Blazers in what is expected to be one of the highest scoring games of the night.

Value Option: Matthew Dellavedova: $4,400

Shooting Guard

Brad Beal vs. New Orleans Pelicans

Salary $7,200

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           20.8     |           Last Five Games:       21.6

Min/Game --  Season:           36.5     |           Last Five Games:       39.1

FP/Game --    Season:           30.2     |           Last Five Games:       31.4

Beal let a lot of people down the other night against the Rockets, but there is no reason not to go back to the well tonight. He draws an equally favorable matchup against Eric Gordon and the Pelicans, who have really struggled to defend shooting guards this season. With such a high team total posted on the NBA odds board, John Wall and Beal are both in play tonight against New Orleans.

C.J. McCollum vs. Phoenix Suns

Salary $7,200

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           23.0     |           Last Five Games:       24.6

Min/Game --  Season:           35.2     |           Last Five Games:       36.0

FP/Game --    Season:           30.3     |           Last Five Games:       32.9

McCollum has caught fire over his last five games, averaging 32.9 fantasy points per contest. His usage rate has gone up during that stretch and he should get plenty of open looks again tonight against the Suns. Both of these teams like to push the pace and the total for the game is set at 209 points.

Value Option: O.J. Mayo: $4,800

Small Forward

Paul George vs. Miami Heat

Salary $10,400

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           27.1     |           Last Five Games:       29.8

Min/Game --  Season:           36.3     |           Last Five Games:       37.9

FP/Game --    Season:           44.6     |           Last Five Games:       49.2

If we have learned one thing this season, it’s that George is about as matchup-proof of a player as there is in the NBA. He has become one of the top fantasy options at any position and he is coming off of a strong five-game stretch, where he averaged 49.2 fantasy points per contest. Even though his matchup against the Heat is less than ideal, he is still my top target at small forward.

Gordon Hayward vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

Salary $7,000

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           20.9     |           Last Five Games:       20.8

Min/Game --  Season:           35.3     |           Last Five Games:       36.7

FP/Game --    Season:           29.7     |           Last Five Games:       36.3

It took a while for Hayward to get going this season, but now that he has, he is rolling. Over his last five games, he has averaged 36.3 fantasy points in 36.7 minutes per contest. The Jazz are expected to keep tonight’s game against the Thunder close, as they are only 3.5-point underdogs. The Jazz will need a big game from Hayward tonight if they are going to pull off the upset at home.

Value Option: Jae Crowder: $5,200

Power Forward

Anthony Davis vs. Washington Wizards

Salary $11,000

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           24.3     |           Last Five Games:       23.5

Min/Game --  Season:           35.4     |           Last Five Games:       39.4

FP/Game --    Season:           44.9     |           Last Five Games:       51.5

If I had to choose one superstar to roster tonight, it would be Davis. He has burned a lot of bridges this season, but he is back in my good graces, as he has averaged 51.5 fantasy points per game in his last five. He draws a terrific matchup against the Wizards, who have a depleted frontcourt. Nene Hilario and Drew Gooden have already been ruled out and Kris Humphries is questionable.

Draymond Green vs. Boston Celtics

Salary $8,100

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           16.0     |           Last Five Games:       19.2

Min/Game --  Season:           34.0     |           Last Five Games:       35.7

FP/Game --    Season:           35.8     |           Last Five Games:       35.8

Green is one of those players that do everything on the floor well. He doesn’t have the highest usage rate, but he fills up all areas of the stat sheet. He should play 35+ minutes tonight against the Celtics in what is expected to be one of the highest scoring games on the schedule. Green would also see a nice boost if Klay Thompson (questionable) is unable to play.

Value Option: Jon Leuer: $4,500

Center

Marcin Gortat vs. New Orleans Pelicans

Salary $6,300

TO-Adjusted Usage --            Season:           15.2     |           Last Five Games:       14.6

Min/Game --  Season:           29.3     |           Last Five Games:       36.5

FP/Game --    Season:           26.9     |           Last Five Games:       34.8

Center is a very thin position tonight. A lot of people will gravitate to Andre Drummond against the Sixers, but Gortat is a much safer play. With all of the injuries to the Wizards’ frontcourt, he could be asked to play 35 minutes tonight against the Pelicans. Gortat has averaged 34.8 fantasy points over his last five games, which easily exceeds value at a price of only $6,300.

Value Option: Gorgui Dieng: $4,500
