NHL Fades: Sunday

by Michael Finewax
Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

I’m going to give you some fades as these players either should not be in your lineup or tread carefully if you want them on your FanDuel and/or DraftKings squad. We will also be updating the goaltending matchups at the bottom of the column all season (up to the 7 pm start times for most lineups) so check the column and Rotoworld’s daily blurbs for the latest updates.

Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UT).

Editor's Note: Rotoworld’s Season Pass is now available for the low price of $19.99. You get plenty of extra articles including the minor league report, the junior report and much, much more. Buy it now!

Malcolm Subban G (Vegas) - $7,200 FanDuel, $7,700 DraftKings

Marc-Andre Fleury may have suffered a concussion when kneed in the head on Friday and he was unable to practice on Saturday, so Subban could get the call against his former teammates in Boston. It really doesn’t matter who starts this one as I would avoid Vegas goaltending on Sunday. Subban has an extremely high value in DraftKings as I would expect it to be $1,200 lower. Subban has only started two games in the NHL and we shall see if number three is Sunday.

Nick Leddy D (New York Islanders) - $4,200 FanDuel, $4,500 DraftKings

Leddy has only one assist in five games this season, a big decrease from the 41 and 46 points he has had in the last two seasons. The Islanders are on the second game of back-to-back contests in California and Leddy could have a tough time against Los Angeles after a game against the Sharks in San Jose Sunday.

Johnny Boychuk D (New York Islanders) - $4,300 FanDuel, $4,300 DraftKings

The same goes for Boychuk as the above comment on Leddy. Boychuk has no points this season and the Islanders have yet to get a goal from any defenseman. DraftKing numbers are high (or FanDuel is low) on the two Islander blueliners. Put them in your lineup at your own peril.

Ryan O’Reilly C (Buffalo) - $5,100 FanDuel, $5,200 DraftKings

O’Reilly is off to a slow start with only one assist in five games. He is centering Evander Kane and Matt Moulson as a top-two center but his lack of scoring, despite 13 shots on goal in the five games gives you no reason to put him in your DFS lineup until he proves something.

Jakub Silfverberg W (Anaheim) - $5,700 DraftKings

It’s hard to believe that Silfverberg is the sixth highest rated winger on Sunday in DraftKings as he only has an assist in five games. His $4,800 salary in FanDuel is more in line with his skill level. Silfverberg has 17 shots on goal thus far so a breakout game may be in the cards but until he does it, look elsewhere.

Sam Reinhart W (Buffalo) - $4,300 FanDuel, $3,600 DraftKings

I loved Sam Reinhart before the start of the season but with nary a point in five games and only five shots on goal in that span, it’s hard to like him. He is seeing third line time with Johan Larsson and Seth Griffith and has lost his power play time as well. He needs to be with Jack Eichel or Ryan O’Reilly as his center and until that happens again, he will not be a big scorer in the NHL.

Goaltenders

Boston (Tuukka Rask) @ Vegas (Malcolm Subban)

Buffalo (Robin Lehner) @ Anaheim (John Gibson)

New York Islanders (Jaroslav Halak)  @ Los Angeles (Jonathan Quick)
