I’m going to give you some fades as these players either should not be in your lineup or tread carefully if you want them on your FanDuel and/or DraftKings squad. We will also be updating the goaltending matchups at the bottom of the column all season (up to the 7 pm start times for most lineups) so check the column and Rotoworld’s daily blurbs for the latest updates.
Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UT).
Tyler Seguin (DAL) – C - $8,100 FanDuel, $7,000 DraftKings
I’m putting this one out there somewhat tentatively because Seguin always has the potential to have a monster game, but I don’t see him as great value in this case. He’s the most expensive center available by a significant margin on both sites ($1,000 more than any other player on FanDuel, $600 on DraftKings) and I don’t think he’s that far ahead of other centers like the hot Jonathan Toews and Mika Zibanejad. Plus Seguin will be facing Detroit, which will likely start Jimmy Howard again tonight. Howard is off to a superb start with a 1.44 GAA and .961 save percentage, which makes me reluctant to bet on Dallas players in general in this case.
Duncan Keith (CHI) – D - $5,800 FanDuel, $5,100 DraftKings
Keith isn’t too badly priced on DraftKings, but he’s tied for the fourth most expensive defenseman on Monday, excluding the injured Erik Karlsson. Keith is off to a colder start than some of the alternatives though, like Kevin Shattenkirk and Alex Pietrangelo. Additionally, Keith will be facing Montreal, which might start Carey Price tonight.
Rick Nash (NYR) – W - $5,600 FanDuel, $5,300 DraftKings
Nash has seen his price tick downwards already, but he’s still not a particularly good option. He hasn’t recorded a point yet and while he will have some good games down the road, he’s never a great bet anymore. At the end of the day, this could be the third straight season where he finishes below the 40-point milestone.
Oliver Ekman-Larsson (ARI) – D - $5,400 FanDuel, $4,800 DraftKings
My hesitation with Ekman-Larsson is a hesitation for betting on Coyotes players in general tonight. They’ll be facing Vegas in the franchise’s first ever home game, so the enthusiasm might be strongly tilted in the Golden Knights direction. Marc-Andre Fleury is also projected to start and he’s been strong thus far, including in Vegas’ 2-1 overtime win versus Arizona on Saturday.
Jake Allen (STL) – G - $8,600 FanDuel, $7,300 DraftKings
After starting in the Blues’ first three games, including on Saturday and Monday, Carter Hutton is expected to get the start Tuesday night. Even if Allen did end up making a surprise start, the fatigue factor would make him a concern for tonight’s game.
Max Pacioretty (MON) – W - $7,400 FanDuel, $6,500 DraftKings
I’d consider him on DraftKings, but I recommend passing on him in FanDuel tonight. He’s off to something of a slow start with a goal in three games so far and he’ll be running into a hot goaltender in Corey Crawford, who has a 1.00 GAA and .968 save percentage in two starts thus far.
Alexander Wennberg (CLM) – C - $5,500 FanDuel, $6,100 DraftKings
He’s not badly priced on FanDuel, but I’d pass on him on DraftKings. You’ll also want to keep in mind that Wennberg got knocked from the first line to second based on Monday’s practice, which means that he might not see five-on-five ice time with the talented Artemi Panarin and Cam Atkinson tonight.
