Welcome to NHL Fades, where I’ll offer some players you might want to avoid using in daily fantasy leagues tonight. These are necessarily bad players, just players that aren’t ideal right now when measured against their price tag.
Keep in mind that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 4W, 2D, 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UT). Also remember to check back in this afternoon to see the probable goaltender list at the bottom as it will be updated.
Derek Stepan (ARI – C) - $5,500 FanDuel, $5,000 DraftKings
Stepan has been solid this season, but over his last five games he’s been held to just an assist. Additionally, this will be his second game in as many nights and his third contest over four days so fatigue is a concern here.
Mikael Granlund (MIN – W) - $6,700 FanDuel, $5,400 DraftKings
I wouldn’t mind gambling on Granlund in DraftKings, but his FanDuel price is too high right now. Granlund missed five games with a groin injury before returning on Oct. 24 and since then he’s been limited to an assist in three games. He’s coming off a 69-point campaign, but between the injury and his cold start, October has been a disappointing month for him.
Henrik Zetterberg (DET – C) - $6,400 FanDuel, $5,900 DraftKings
Zetterberg got off to a superb start to the 2017-18 campaign, but he’s been held off the scoresheet for four consecutive games. For that reason, I’d pass on him for now, although eventually I’m sure he’ll be worth gambling on again.
Nikolaj Ehlers (WPG – W) - $6,500 FanDuel, $7,000 DraftKings
I’d lean against taking Ehlers in FanDuel, but I’d definitely pass on him in DraftKings tonight. For the most part, Ehlers has been a fine bet this season, but he’s cold right now with a goal and no assists over his last five games.
Jacob Trouba (WPG – D) - $4,300 FanDuel, $4,800 DraftKings
Trouba isn’t that expensive, but with there only being three games tonight, there aren’t a ton of defensive options to begin with. He’s gotten off to a somewhat mild start this season with three assists in 10 games and he’s been particularly quiet lately with just an assist over his last six games.
Tomas Tatar (DET – W) - $5,800 FanDuel, $4,900 DraftKings
I’m recommending that you pass on Tatar in FanDuel, but Tatar is cheap enough in DraftKings that I’d be willing to gamble on him. Tatar has three goals and five points in 12 games with that production almost exclusively coming from a three-game point streak he enjoyed from Oct. 16-20. He doesn’t have a single point in his last four contests.
