NHL GPP Plays: Tuesday

by Chris Lowery
Updated On: December 3, 2018, 6:02 pm ET

Every Tuesday and Thursday I am going to give you my top tournament plays for all Daily Fantasy Hockey GPPs (guaranteed prize pool). GPPs are a general term used across the industry for your big money tournaments.

GPPs are very different from your cash games and you use a different strategy with them. In our GPPs we are not interested in safe plays, since GPPs are all about UPSIDE. We want players who can explode, as all-or-nothing type players can become GPP gold, and your value players are just as important as your star players. You need your players to have huge nights in order to take down these big tournaments.

My goal is to provide players who will be under-owned and have that big game upside you are looking for. I will also try to find as much value as I possibly can. Now, let’s get to the FanDuel NHL GPP plays!

GOALTENDERS

Make sure to check the RotoGrinders Starting Goalies Page prior to game time, to confirm that the goalies listed below are starting.

Garret Sparks, Toronto Maple Leafs - Sparks has looked terrific in two of his three starts this season, and you have to like his matchup tonight. The New Jersey Devils are a bottom-six Corsi team, which has led them to the bottom third of the NHL in both shots and goals per game. Sparks may not see a ton of shots in this game, but he is extremely inexpensive across the industry and should come away with the win.

Other Goalies To Target – Sergei Bobrovsky, Martin Jones, Roberto Luongo, Antti Niemi

WINGERS

Johnny Gaudreau, Calgary Flames - Gaudreau was running cold for a nine-game stretch until he broke in a big way recently with four goals, five points and seven shots on net in his last two games. The San Jose Sharks are struggling right now, losing three games in a row, and allowing 10 goals against in the process. Gaudreau has massive upside and I doubt he is popular in GPPs.

Teuvo Teravainen, Chicago Blackhawks – Teravainen was promoted to the Chicago Blackhawks top line to play with Jonathan Toews and Marian Hossa. The move paid off immediately as the former first round pick scored in Chicago’s 3-1 over the Winnipeg Jets Sunday. The matchup may not be all that appealing, but the Nashville Predators are playing in back-to-back road games. Teravainen has multi-goal upside at a discounted price.

Valeri Nichuskin, Dallas Stars – Nichuskin is now skating on the Dallas Stars’ number one line with superstars Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin. Nichuskin has started to heat up with four points in his last four contests and I love his potential in this game. Dollar for dollar, he is the top value option tonight in tournaments

Magnus Paajarvi, St. Louis Blues – According to St. Louis Blues coach Ken Hitchcock, Paajarvi will start tonight’s game on the Blues potent top line. The 24-year-old Swede has done very little so far in his young career, but playing with Paul Stastny and Vladimir Tarasenko certainly puts him on the radar this evening. If you are looking for a true punt play, Paajarvi is among the best options.

Other Forwards To Target – Nazem Kadri, Artem Anisimov, Adam Henrique, Aleksander Barkov, Gustav Nyquist, Leo Komarov, Lee Stempniak, Elias Lindholm, David Jones

DEFENSEMEN

Shayne Gostisbehere, Philadelphia Flyers – Until his price rises dramatically, I will continue to have a ton of exposure to the man they call “Ghost”. Gostisbehere has been exceptional filling for the injured Mark Streit, he is currently riding a three-game point-streak and he now has eight points in 11 games for the Flyers. In terms of value, this is your top GPP option on defense.

Other Defensemen To Target – Justin Faulk, Nick Leddy, Niklas Kronwall, Damon Severson, Colton Parayko, Noah Hanifin
