MLB DFS Plays: Thursday 7/30

This article outlines the best daily fantasy MLB plays of the day at every position. We take a comprehensive look to uncover these core recommendations, factoring respective salaries into the analysis.

Please note, these player picks were organized early in the day. For MLB contests, always check lineups and weather closer to game time. Rain, wind, or unexpected managerial decisions could open up additional sources of value. Be sure to keep an eye on the MLB Headlines and Injuries desk.

HITTING STACKS

New York Yankees - The Yankees unsurprisingly hold the highest run-scoring projection of the night. They’ll take on Baltimore LHP John Means and a terrible Orioles’ bullpen in a hitter-friendly park. Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, Gleyber Torres, Gary Sanchez, Aaron Hicks, Luke Voit, and the other NYY righty sluggers are firmly in play.

Kansas City Royals - The Royals make for a neat secondary stack on all DFS sites. Most of their hitters are cheap while stepping into a comfortable matchup against Detroit RHP Ivan Nova. Kansas City posted 21 runs in the first three games of this series, while Jorge Soler (don’t mind the discouraging BvP), Whit Merrifield, Salvador Perez, and Adalberto Mondesi will be looking for another offensive outburst.

New York Mets - Southpaw Martin Perez was pretty bad through the second half of last season. That discouragement has followed him into 2020 after allowing five runs through five innings last week vs. Baltimore. Go ahead and load up a few NYM righties to take advantage of Perez’s .353 wOBA split to that side of the plate. Pete Alonso, Amed Rosario, Yoenis Cespedes, and J.D. Davis stand to benefit.

Los Angeles Angels - Seattle LHP Marco Gonzales isn’t a bad pitcher, but he could run into trouble tonight. The Angels are chock-full of powerful righties like Mike Trout, Justin Upton, Anthony Rendon, and David Fletcher. They should all be on your radar this evening.

PITCHER

Dylan Bundy - LA Angels (vs. Seattle) - DK: $8,200 FD: $8,200 Yahoo: $41

As mentioned in the previous write-up, I believe Bundy will see plenty of run support to earn the victory tonight. He should post a quality start (at least close to it) with an admirable strikeout rate along the way. His opponent, Seattle, doesn’t exactly have an intimidating offense to worry about. Bundy carved his way through a tougher Oakland lineup last week, tossing 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts and one run allowed. I wouldn’t be surprised if he replicated those numbers tonight.

Also Consider: Dinelson Lamet, Brady Singer (GPP)

CATCHER

Gary Sanchez - NY Yankees (at Baltimore) - DK: $4,900 FD: $2,900 Yahoo: $16

Sanchez is the chalk at catcher tonight. The question becomes a matter of salary instead of overall ability and matchup potential. On FanDuel and Yahoo, I believe the Yankee catcher is in firm contention at C/1B. However, he’s a bit pricey on DraftKings, which could hinder the rest of your lineup. I’ll probably look towards the savings of Salvador Perez or Wilson Ramos (in cash games) over there.

Also Consider: Salvador Perez, Wilson Ramos

FIRST BASE

Luke Voit - NY Yankees (at Baltimore) - DK: $4,200 FD: $2,800 Yahoo: $15

As mentioned earlier, the Yankees check in with the highest run-scoring projection of the night. Voit is primed to jump all over Baltimore LHP John Means and a non-imposing (to put it mildly) Orioles’ bullpen. He’s significantly cheaper than the top first baseman of the night (Pete Alonso) while giving you optimism for similar (or better) results. Lock him in!

Also Consider: Pete Alonso (great on FD), Ryan McBroom (cheap on DK & Yahoo)

SECOND BASE

David Fletcher - LA Angels (vs. Seattle) - DK: $3,200 FD: $3,000 Yahoo: $15

I’m liking David Fletcher as a moderately-priced second baseman to help you squeeze the other top hitters into a confident lineup. Fletcher should be leading off for the Angels, which gives him excellent protection with Trout, Rendon, and Upton hitting behind him. Fletcher has racked-up eight hits over his last four games, and he could be in for another multi-hit showing against LHP Marco Gonzales

Also Consider: Whit Merrifield, Jose Peraza (cheap punt)

THIRD BASE

Justin Turner - LA Dodgers (at Arizona) - DK: $5,200 FD: $3,500 Yahoo: $20

Due to salary constrictions, Turner is probably a better play on FanDuel than DraftKings or Yahoo. That seems to be the growing theme of this article. The Dodgers’ third baseman will settle into a comfortable matchup against Arizona LHP Robbie Ray. Turner has gotten off to a hot start in 2020 with multiple hits in three of six outings. He’s still moderately-priced on FanDuel despite it … As for DraftKings and Yahoo, Maikel Franco is still dirt-cheap while racking up six hits in his past three games. He gives you a better bang for your buck on those sites.

Also Consider: Anthony Rendon, Maikel Franco (value)

SHORTSTOP

Adalberto Mondesi - Kansas City (at Detroit) - DK: $3,300 FD: $2,600 Yahoo: $17

The Royals were mentioned as an economical stack earlier, and Mondesi is a headline pick from that. The speedy switch-hitter should find fantasy success against Detroit RHP Ivan Nova - who held a .347 wOBA split vs. LHB last season (.353 in 2018). Mondesi has upside with multiple hits, runs, and stolen bases - while this looks like a potential breakout spot from an otherwise slow start to 2020.

Also Consider: Gleyber Torres, Amed Rosario (value)

OUTFIELD

Giancarlo Stanton - NY Yankees (at Baltimore) - DK: $5,500 FD: $3,800 Yahoo: $19

I’ll be looking to spend-up on Giancarlo Stanton in Baltimore tonight. He has been one of the best hitters against left-handed pitching over the years, and the NYY slugger looks good with five hits (two homers) in four games to begin the shortened season. Sure, the salary is pretty steep across the board, but there are enough bargains listed throughout this article to prioritize Stanton in this beautiful draw.

Justin Upton - LA Angels (vs. Seattle) - DK: $3,600 FD: $2,700 Yahoo: $12

Upton is one of those aforementioned bargains with upside and salary relief to help the rest of your lineup. The Angels have been a talking point several times in this column, and I believe they’ll have a nice offensive showing against Seattle LHP Marco Gonzales. Upton should see plenty of RBI situations with world-class hitters in front of him, and he has enough power to put your fantasy squad over the top.

Also Consider: Aaron Judge, Mike Trout, Aaron Hicks, Yoenis Cespedes, J.D. Davis, Jorge Soler, Alex Gordon (GPP)
