After coming close a year ago, Webb Simpson is the man to beat this week at the Sony Open in the eyes of oddsmakers.
Simpson has been rock-solid at Waialae Country Club, finishing T-13 in five straight appearances, and last year finished third after missing out on a playoff by a shot. He finished in the middle of the pack last week at Kapalua (T-17) but heads into the second event of the new year as a betting favorite. Simpson is listed at +1200 to start the week according to PointsBet Sportsbook, just ahead of reigning PGA champion Collin Morikawa (+1300) who at No. 5 is the highest-ranked player in the 144-man field in Honolulu. Last week's winner, Harris English, is +1400 to go back-to-back after breaking a seven-year victory drought while the man he beat in a playoff, Joaquin Niemann, is listed at +2200.
