The Season So Far Series

The PGA TOUR season has been put on hold but that didn't stop Matt Cooper and Dave Tindall from reflecting on the current season's progress and looking at major championship records.

You've likely seen the "Season So Far" columns posted since mid-March. Here are a few highlight observations that are ideal for future events and perfect for the notebook:

Rory McIlroy - "Looking through McIlroy's career and he's never won a tournament on either the PGA TOUR or European Tour with a winning score higher than 12-under. Very tough major courses can act as kyrptonite so bear that in mind when noting that the last U.S. Open to be held at this year's venue, Winged Foot, was won with +5."

Dustin Johnson - "Winged Foot hosts in 2020 and DJ has a great record in the New York/New Jersey region with victories at Atunyote (2008 Turning Stone), Plainfield (2011 Barclays) and Glen Oaks (2017 Northern Trust). Winged Foot is a Tillinghurst design, as is Bethpage where Johnson was runner-up in last year's PGA."

Bryson DeChambeau - "So what of TPC Harding Park in August? Both Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka say it favors longer hitters. However, DeChambeau states he likes non-humid conditions and August is the most humid month in San Francisco."

Henrik Stenson - "The difference in his Open win? He ranked third for Total Putting, the only time in his entire major career he made the top ten for that category."

Shane Lowry - "In all majors he is something or a boom or bust merchant: 27 starts, six top 12s, 17 failures to make the top 40. His best is very, very good; his average labors."

Jon Rahm - "Put together his PGA Championship and U.S. Open woes when playing on tough-scoring layouts and you might want to steer clear when he is next facing such a test."

This list will provide an easy way to see them all linked in one spot. This might be a good page to bookmark for future reference:
