Power Play Report

Leafs Spread around the Wealth

by Michael Finewax
Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

The strangest power play in the NHL belongs to the Toronto Maple Leafs. You look at the rest of the league and their top players in TOI remain the same week-after-week barring an injury. Sometimes a player moves up and into the sixth spot but the top five are usually the same.

Not so with the Maple Leafs. Their top four players are separated by 35 seconds and their top seven are only 2:24 apart from top to bottom. That does not even include their best player Auston Matthews who has missed 10 games with a couple of injuries.

There is no set power play in Toronto as coach Mike Babcock has plenty of capable forwards so he will play the hot hand a lot of the time. While that sounds smart, it really hinders you in fantasy hockey.
