In a new regular column on Rotoworld, we reflect on the tournaments just gone and also take an early peek at the action ahead on the PGA and European Tours.

PGA TOUR/European Tour

WGC-HSBC Champions

Final Leaderboard

1. (-19, 269) Rory McIlroy (DraftKings $11,700; Odds: 6/1)
2. (-19, 269) Xander Schauffele (DraftKings $10,800; Odds: 14/1)
3. (-17, 271) Louis Oosthuizen (DraftKings $7,600; Odds: 60/1)
4. (-15, 273) Victor Perez (DraftKings $6,500; Odds: 160/1)
4. (-15, 273) Matthias Schwab (DraftKings $6,700; Odds: 90/1)
4. (-15, 273) Abraham Ancer (DraftKings $6,800; Odds: 110/1)

Notes: Rory wins his first WGC since 2015 and claims an 18th PGA TOUR title. Perhaps this is the stepping stone for a 2020 campaign which will bring a first major since 2014. A fast start was the key for Rory although defending champ Schauffele pushed him all the way, McIlroy eventually prevailing in a playoff. A couple of in-form European Tour names - Perez and Schwab - made the top four despite this being their first appearances in a WGC.

Fate of the favorites

1. (-19, 269) Rory McIlroy (DraftKings $11,700; Odds: 6/1)
11. (-11, 277) Hideki Matsuyama (DraftKings $11,100; Odds: 12/1)
2. (-19, 269) Xander Schauffele (DraftKings $10,800; Odds: 14/1)
28. (-5, 283) Justin Rose (DraftKings $10,500; Odds: 16/1)

Notes: For the second time in three weeks, the betting market correctly predicted the winner (also Justin Thomas at the CJ CUP). Third favorite Schauffele finished runner-up, Matsuyama recovered quite well from an opening 75 but Rose was a disappointment.

PGA TOUR

Bermuda Championship

Final Leaderboard

1. (-24, 260) Brendon Todd (Odds: 110/1)
2. (-20, 264) Harry Higgs
3. (-18, 266) Hank Lebioda
3. (-18, 266) Aaron Wise
3. (-18, 266) Brian Gay
3. (-18, 266) Scottie Scheffler

Notes: A second PGA TOUR win for Todd, who started the week ranked World No. 525. The first, the 2014 Byron Nelson, came 100 starts ago.

Coming up this week…

PGA TOUR

NO TOURNAMENT

But the week after (Nov 14-17):

Mayakoba Golf Classic

Location: El Camaleon GC, Playa del Carmen, Mexico, 7,039 yards, par 71.

Who’s playing? The 132-man field includes defending champion Matt Kuchar, Rickie Fowler, Jason Day, Abraham Ancer, Joaquin Niemann, Viktor Hovland, Billy Horschel and Lanto Griffin.

Notes: The PGA TOUR returns from its three-week swing in Asia and pitches up in Mexico. The Greg Norman design bends through three distinct landscapes - tropical jungle, dense mangroves, and oceanfront stretches of sand with holes bisected by massive limestone canals.

Past winners at Mayakoba

2018/19 (-22, 262) Matt Kuchar – 8th PGA TOUR win
2017/18 (-19, 264) Patton Kizzire – 1st PGA TOUR win
2016/17 (-21, 261) Pat Perez – 2nd PGA TOUR win
2015/16 (-18, 261) Graeme McDowell – 3rd PGA TOUR win
2014/15 (-17, 124) Charley Hoffman – 3rd PGA TOUR win

EUROPEAN TOUR

Turkish Airlines Open

Location: Montgomerie Maxx Royal, Antalya, Portugal, 7,133 yards, par 72

Notes: A trio of Rolex Series events conclude the European Tour schedule and we start in Turkey with a hefty $7,000,000 prize fund. The tournament returns to the Montgomerie Maxx, scene of the first three editions from 2013-2015. The last three were played at Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort.

Who’s playing? Justin Rose, Patrick Reed, Bernd Wiesberger, Shane Lowry, Matt Wallace, Tyrrell Hatton, Danny Willett, Eddie Pepperell, Franceseco Molinari.
