Waiver Wired: Bo knows value

The NHL trade deadline is fast approaching. Several players on the move will have their fantasy values altered in their new destinations. Marian Gaborik (owned in 4% of Yahoo leagues) had a goal and an assist in his Ottawa debut. He is skating on the team’s top line with Matt Duchene and Mike Hoffman. Dion Phaneuf (owned in 28% of Yahoo leagues), who was moved to Los Angeles in the same deal, also scored a goal in his first game with his new team. They could be worth monitoring.

Now, let’s go into this week’s recommendations:

Bo Horvat (VAN) - C - Owned in 32% of Yahoo leagues

Horvat has registered five goals and five assists in 13 contests since he returned from an 18-game absence due to a fractured ankle. He was Vancouver’s top offensive threat last season and his 0.73 points per game ranks second on the team in 2017-18 behind only rookie sensation Brock Boeser. Horvat and Boeser play together during even-strength situations as well on the Canucks’ top power-play unit.

Antti Raanta (ARI) - G - Owned in 28% of Yahoo leagues

Raanta has been superb this month with a 4-1-1 record, a 2.03 goals-against average and .941 save percentage in seven appearances. He played well in January as well with a 1.93 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage in eight contests despite a 3-2-3 record. Arizona’s spot at the bottom of the standings will scare away most fantasy GMs, but if you desperately need a goaltender then his hot play could work in your favor if it continues. Philadelphia’s Michal Neuvirth would have been the pick here if he didn’t suffer an injury on Sunday. A short-term option could be Washington’s Philipp Grubauer, as the Capitals have a pair of upcoming back-to-back situations.

Nico Hischier (NJD) - C - Owned in 27% of Yahoo leagues

Hischier has shown flashes of his potential during his rookie campaign. He has generated 38 points (12 goals, 26 assists) in 58 games, which ranks sixth among first-year players. Hischier has collected three goals and four helpers over a four-game point streak. He also has a plus-10 rating during that span. The 19-year-old has been clicking with Taylor Hall, who has been scorching hot, on New Jersey’s top line.

Alex DeBrincat (CHI) - LW, RW - Owned in 25% of Yahoo leagues

DeBrincat has produced three goals and two assists during a four-game point streak. The 20-year-old has played up and down the lineup, but his goal-scoring upside remains high. DeBrincat has 22 goals on 134 shots in 59 matches this season. The only rookie who has more goals than him is Boeser.

Derick Brassard (OTT) - C - Owned in 24% of Yahoo leagues

Brassard has found the back of the net in four straight games and he added two assists in Saturday’s win over the New York Rangers. He has been hot and cold for extended stretches this season, so act quickly if you choose to add him. Brassard didn’t have a point for eight straight matches prior to recording five goals and seven points in his last six appearances. He has been playing between Mark Stone and Zack Smith on Ottawa’s second line.

Evgenii Dadonov (FLA) - LW, RW - Owned in 23% of Yahoo leagues

Dadonov has recorded four goals and one assist during a three-game point streak. He has been a consistent producer since early January with eight goals and 15 points in 16 outings. Dadonov has been skating alongside Aleksander Barkov on Florida’s top line.

Alex Killorn (TBL) - LW - Owned in 20% of Yahoo leagues

Killorn appeared on Waiver Wired last week when he was owned in just 10% of Yahoo leagues and he’s worth mentioning again. He has continued to chip in offensively, while playing alongside Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point. Killorn has earned six goals, 11 points, 18 shots and a plus-9 rating in eight matches this month. Take advantage of his recent surge while you can.

Nate Schmidt (VGK) - D - Owned in 11% of Yahoo leagues

Schmidt has two goals and six assists in the last eight games. He has earned one goal and three helpers during a three-game point streak. Schmidt’s hot streak has him one point away from his first 30-point campaign in the NHL. The only blueliner with more points than him on the Golden Knights is Colin Miller, who has a total of 32.

Bryan Rust (PIT) - LW, RW - Owned in 11% of Yahoo leagues

Rust has been firing on all cylinders since he returned to the lineup from an upper-body injury. He has registered five goals and seven assists in his last 11 contests. Rust skated alongside Sidney Crosby when he came back initially, but he has been playing with Evgeni Malkin recently. He has generated 30 points in 49 games this season.

Ondrej Kase (ANA) - LW, RW - Owned in 8% of Yahoo leagues

Kase has potted five goals and he has added four assists in the past seven games. The 22-year-old has been a pleasant surprise for the Ducks this season with 17 goals and 31 points in 44 matches. Kase has been productive alongside Adam Henrique of late and he is worth rostering in deeper leagues until he slows down again.
