Waiver Wired: Connor a Keeper

Josh Anderson’s ownership went from 17% last week when he was featured on Waiver Wired to 26%, while Adam Henrique went from 16% to 28%.

There was another key injury in the crease this week when Roberto Luongo went down with a lower-body injury. That puts James Reimer (owned in 26% of Yahoo leagues) in the spotlight, but he has not had a very good season to date and carries some risk as a crease option. Some fantasy owners will be pleased to know that Matt Murray and Marc-Andre Fleury appear to be nearing returns to the lineup.

Now, let’s go into this week’s offerings:

Tom Wilson (WSH) - LW, RW - Owned in 32% of Yahoo leagues

Wilson has been riding shotgun alongside Nicklas Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin. He has taken advantage of the move with three goals and three assists during a three-game point streak. Wilson has generated 11 points in his last 13 outings. He also has amassed 75 hits and 68 penalty minutes in 26 games, which gives him some additional value in leagues that credit the rougher statistics.

Tyler Johnson (TBL) - C - Owned in 29% of Yahoo leagues

Johnson has been productive recently and his resurgence has coincided with his return to Tampa Bay’s top-six forward group. He skated alongside Brayden Point and Ondrej Palat on Saturday night after he had been playing with Steven Stamkos and Vladislav Namestnikov. Johnson snapped a 15-game goalless drought on Dec. 2 with a two-goal performance against San Jose. That started his current four-game point streak for the Lightning forward, which includes five assists in his last three outings. Johnson has earned nine points in the past seven matches, including four points on the power play.

Charlie Coyle (MIN) - C, RW - Owned in 23% of Yahoo leagues

Coyle has been racking up points since his return from a fractured fibula. He has accounted for seven points in nine games since he sat out 16 contests due to the ailment, which includes his present six-game point streak (two goals, four assists). Coyle had been playing center on the third line until Friday’s matchup versus Anaheim when he skated on the wing alongside Mikko Koivu and Jason Zucker. The 25-year-old forward registered a personal best 56 points in 2016-17 and he has been earning points at an improved pace this year.

Kyle Connor (WPG) - LW - Owned in 17% of Yahoo leagues

Connor was highlighted last week and he is still available in the vast majority of Yahoo leagues. Perhaps his foot injury scared away some takers, but he returned quickly and it’s time for fantasy GMs to show him some love. He potted his 10th goal of the season on Saturday and he has compiled 18 points in 24 appearances. Connor has found a home alongside Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele on the top line.

Pierre-Luc Dubois (CBJ) - C, LW - Owned in 16% of Yahoo leagues

Dubois has been elevated to Columbus’ top line between Artemi Panarin and Josh Anderson. He has heated up offensively, with two goals and six helpers in his last seven appearances, following a difficult start to the year. Panarin and Anderson have been the top-two producers on the Blue Jackets, so Dubois has plenty of upside in his new role.

Noah Hanifin (CAR) - D - Owned in 15% of Yahoo leagues

Hanifin has been Carolina’s top point producer on the back end so far this season. Justin Faulk has struggled and Hanifin has picked up the slack with five goals and 15 points through 28 games. The 20-year-old blueliner has four markers and eight points in the last 12 contests. Carolina has four games scheduled for the coming week, so Hanifin could be an option if you are seeking short-term help on the back end.

Kevin Fiala (NSH) - LW, RW - Owned in 12% of Yahoo leagues

Fiala has benefited from the Predators’ acquisition of Kyle Turris from the Ottawa Senators. He has three goals and two assists during a four-game point streak and he has accumulated 12 points in 14 contests since Turris joined the team. The 21-year-old has been unloading more shots on goal, with 17 over his current point spree.

Erik Haula (VGK) - C, LW - Owned in 11% of Yahoo leagues

Haula has found the back of the net in three consecutive matches and he has added two assists over that span. He ranks third on the Golden Knights with 11 goals and he has 19 points after 25 games. Haula has been skating between David Perron and James Neal. He hasn’t gone more than two appearances without a point since Nov. 4 and he has amassed 16 points in 17 games during that stretch.

Tanner Pearson (LAK) - LW - Owned in 7% of Yahoo leagues

Pearson is in the midst of another hot streak with two goals and five helpers in the past six matches. It’s been an up and down season for the 25-year-old forward, but he could be a solid pickup in deeper leagues this week if he maintains his current momentum.

Michael Raffl (PHI) - LW, RW - Owned in 1% of Yahoo leagues

Raffl has scored five goals and posted two assists in eight games. It took him a very long time to get going, as he had no points in his first 21matches this campaign. He has netted the game-winning goal for three games in a row and has looked much better since Jakub Voracek was added to his line along with Valtteri Filppula. Raffl is not the safest of pickups, but his recent success could make him worthy of consideration for fantasy GMs in the very deep leagues.
