Waiver Wired: Reinhart's Reign

Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

Paul Stastny is still available in 61% of Yahoo leagues. He has nine points in eight games with the Jets and he has earned at least one point in each of his last six appearances. Winnipeg’s Kyle Connor (owned in 19% of Yahoo leagues) should be on your radar as well. He is slated to play with Mark Scheifele and Blake Wheeler on Sunday night. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is up to four goals and three assists in seven games since his return to the lineup from injury. He continues to play alongside Connor McDavid and should be picked up if he’s available. Ty Rattie joined that combination on Saturday, which led to one goal, one assist and six shots against Florida. He is worth monitoring.

Now, let’s go into this week’s recommendations:

Antti Raanta (ARI) - G - Owned in 39% of Yahoo leagues

Raanta made his first start on Saturday since Mar. 3 after recovering from a lower-body injury. He blocked 30 of 32 shots in a 3-1 loss to Minnesota. Raanta had a three-game win streak prior to getting hurt. Impressively, he has a 2.42 goals-against average and .924 save percentage in 40 appearances this season despite playing for the last-placed Coyotes. Arizona has games against Calgary, Buffalo, Carolina and Florida this coming week and Raanta should see the bulk of the starts. Normally it isn’t recommended to roster goaltenders on bad teams, but the matchups aren’t that intimidating and he could provide some value to your fantasy squad if he’s available on the wire.

Sam Reinhart (BUF) - C, LW, RW - Owned in 38% of Yahoo leagues

Reinhart had a great deal of work to do to regain the trust of potential fantasy GMs after a brutal start to 2017-18 and he has accomplished that thanks to resurgent second half. He has generated 22 points in 22 games since the All-Star break, including five goals and four assists in his last seven outings. Reinhart has meshed nicely alongside Ryan O'Reilly at even strength and now that Jack Eichel is back his contributions on the power play should receive a boost.

Chris Kreider (NYR) - LW - Owned in 33% of Yahoo leagues

Kreider has been on fire since he returned to the lineup from 24-game absence due to a blood clot. He has posted two goals and eight assists in his past nine contests. The bulk of Kreider’s production has come in his last two outings, where he has six points. He has been clicking with Mika Zibanejad (owned in 40% of Yahoo leagues), who has been hot as well with seven goals and four helpers in eight games. They are both worthy of your attention.

Tomas Hertl (SJS) - C, LW, RW - Owned in 32% of Yahoo leagues

Hertl had a successful road trip for the Sharks with four goals and three assists during a three-game point streak. He has generated nine points in the past eight contests. Hertl plays alongside Logan Couture, who is starting to warm up offensively again.  The Sharks have a three-game homestand this week and Hertl has plenty of upside if his recent hot streak continues.

Craig Smith (NSH) - RW - Owned in 30% of Yahoo leagues

Smith has two assists in each of his last two appearances and he hasn’t gone more than two games without a point since early February. He has five goals and nine assists in the past 15 matches. Smith has been reunited with Kyle Turris and Kevin Fiala (owned in 29% of Yahoo leagues) on the Predators’ second line. Nashville has four games on tap for the coming week and Smith should make for a solid roster addition.

Dmitry Orlov (WSH) - D - Owned in 24% of Yahoo leagues

Orlov has amassed five points in four games thanks in large part to a three-point performance on Thursday against the New York Islanders. He is one point away from his second straight 30-point season. Orlov and the Capitals have a favorable three-game schedule this coming week. If he continues to produce, while chipping in hits and blocks then he will make for a good pickup on the back end. Orlov has been credited with 115 hits and 104 blocks in 71 games this campaign.

Keith Kinkaid (NJD) - G - Owned in 20% of Yahoo leagues

Kinkaid has become New Jersey’s starter of choice lately and it’s not hard to see why. He has won his last four starts and he has been defeated just two times in his last 11 outings (9-2-0). Kinkaid has posted a 4-1-0 record with a 2.18 goals-against average, a .938 save percentage and one shutout in five games this month. It’s possible that he could split starts with Cory Schneider for the rest of the season and see additional action in the crease if Schneider continues to struggle. Kinkaid should be on your radar if you are looking for depth between the pipes down the stretch.

Riley Nash (BOS) - C, RW - Owned in 19% of Yahoo leagues

Nash stands a good chance to be back on Boston’s top line after David Backes was injured Saturday night. Playing between Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak since Patrice Bergeron suffered a fractured foot has been great for his fantasy value. He has four goals and seven helpers in the last 10 games. Boston has four games set for the coming week, so there will be plenty of chances to take advantage of Nash’s hot play.

Boone Jenner (CBJ) - C, LW - Owned in 16% of Yahoo leagues

Jenner has heated up with four goals and two assists during a five-game point streak. He has also accounted for 13 shots and 18 hits over that span. It has not been a good year for Jenner, who missed the first seven games because of a back injury, but he could be in store for a strong finish.

Frank Vatrano (FLA) - C, LW, RW - Owned in 1% of Yahoo leagues

Vatrano made a brief appearance on Waiver Wired last week as an honorable mention and he remains a decent under-the-radar option. He has two goals, 11 shots and seven hits in four games with the Panthers. Vatrano has spent most of his time on the second line with Vincent Trocheck and Jonathan Huberdeau. Florida will play four games this coming week and Vatrano has some upside if he stays in Florida's top-six forward group. Panthers teammate Nick Bjugstad (owned in 40% of Yahoo leagues) is a safer option, though, and should be scooped up if he’s available.
