Darlington Raceway II, Toyota 500(K)

The second of two NASCAR Cup Series races since live action racing returned on May 17 was held on Wednesday at Darlington Raceway. Denny Hamlin won the rain-shortened Toyota 500(k) at the 1.366-mile oval in South Carolina. The NASCAR XFINITY Series' Toyota 200, scheduled for Tuesday night at Darlington, was postponed due to rain and ran to completion on Thursday night. The NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series drivers will take their turn resuming the 2020 season live Tuesday, May 26, with the NC Education Lottery 200 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The latest results and upcoming scheduled events for NASCAR feeder series are included below as well as details on all tracks mentioned in this column.

                        NASCAR Cup Series (NCS)

Wed, May 20 - Toyota 500(k) at Darlington Raceway (DR) - 228 laps (rain-shortened to 208 laps)
- Qualifying was not held for this event. The lineup was set by a random drawing. P1 went to Ryan Preece (#37 Chevrolet Camaro). Ty Dillon (#13 Camaro) shared the front row in P2. Joey Logano, Clint Bowyer, Ryan Blaney, Ryan Newman, Matt DiBenedetto, Brad Keselowski, Aric Almirola and Austin Dillon made up the rest of the top-10 in the lineup, respectively.

- Denny Hamlin (#11 Toyota Camry) scored his 39th victory in 512 NCS races. This is his 2nd victory (Daytona, Darlington) and 3rd top-10 finish in 2020. It is his 3rd victory (2010, 2017, 2020) and 12th top-10 finish in 16 races at DR. Kyle Busch (2nd) posted his 11th top-10 finish in 17 Darlington races and his 3rd top-10 finish in 2020. Kevin Harvick (3rd) earned his 13th top-10 finish in 25 races at Darlington. He continues his streak of finishing in the top-10 in all 6 races this season. Christopher Bell (11th) was the highest finishing Sunoco Rookie of the Year (ROTY) contender. Kevin Harvick leads the point standings by 2 points over Joey Logano (finished 6th in race). Next on the NCS schedule: Sun, May 24 - Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS) - 600 laps.

- Qualifying was not held for this event. The lineup was set by an agreed upon random drawing. P1 went to Noah Gragson (#9 Chevrolet Camaro) with Michael Annett (#1 Camaro) sharing Row 1 in the P2 spot. #11 Justin Haley, #39 Ryan Sieg, #18 Riley Herbst, #68 Brandon Brown, #22 Austin Cindric, #19 Brandon Jones, #10 Ross Chastain and #7 Justin Allgaier made up the remainder of the top-10 in the starting lineup.

- Chase Briscoe (#98 Ford Mustang) scored his 4th victory in 55 NXS races. This is his 2nd victory and 4th top-10 finish in 2020. It is his 1st win and 2nd top-10 finish in 2 races at Darlington. Cup Series regular Kyle Busch (2nd) posted his 8th top-10 finish in 12 NXS races at Darlington. It is his 2nd top-10 NXS finish in 2020. Justin Allgaier (3rd) earned his 7th top-10 finish in 10 Darlington races. Harrison Burton (9th) was the highest finishing ROTY. Briscoe took over the lead in the 2020 NXS point standings. He leads Harrison Burton, the former leader, by 19 points. Next on the NXS schedule: Mon, May 25 - Alsco 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway (CMS) - 200 laps.
